Sad that it had to come to this but it did have to happen. He wasn't the Messiah he was hailed as by many when he came and he has failed after spending a lot of money. Only have to look at Sheff Utd - a team who came down with us - to see that you can build and organise a side after relegation. OK they were only up for one season and that makes it easier financially but they were just a better TEAM.
As for where did all the money from transfers go it went on transfers and wages for other players. Bent paid for Dowie's disasters eg Diawara, Faye, Tarore, etc.
I think Parky will turn out to be a decent manager. Will he turn out to be a decent manager for us I don't know. The key challenge will be to instill some confidence and organisation. He has already done the business with no money at Colchester and whenever I've heard him speak he's spoken sense. I don't think you can blame him for the defence without knowing what goes on day to day at Sparrrows Lane which none of us do.
I too fear that he is perhaps too close the old regime to have an impact but then again Lennie was Craggs' no.2 and Curbs and Gritt were assistants to Lennie. And yes, Trotter and Craggs make the opposite point.
In any case he is a caretaker. I would hope and expect the board to take the time to make a considered decision and see who else is available so in the meantime Parky is a good caretaker IMHO so I wish him well. With luck the situation will be clear before the transfer window opens.
The players, most of whom were brought to the club by Pardew, need to look have a hard look at themselves as they have let their boss down badly. That doesn't deflect from Pardew's failings but it was they, not him, who were going missing at corners and free kicks or missing simple chances.
Also will say well down to the crowd who stuck with the club and the team yesterday. OK, maybe some of ironic cheering of Weaver was not that supportive but it was not as harsh as many other fans would have been and the chorus of "Charlton till I die" could be heard loud and clear after the game as I walked away. Keep the faith.
Measured as usual Henry but I cannot help thinking that Parky has been a senior coach at The Valley and just look at the shambles the team is at the moment. A new manager often provides a bounce to a team but I cannot see that with Parky as he is only too familiar with the players. God help us all.
A good post Henry with fair points. Parky is the obvious choice as caretaker manager, and though I like many, are not too sure he's the answer, we wont know untill we see what happens over the next few games. I just hope it doesn't turn out like when McLaren followed Sven....same old ,same old.

I fear you might be right.
However I've been lucky enough to chat with a few times and he impressed me in a quiet, thoughtful way and was not IMHO a similar personality to Pardew. Of course that means little. How he gets on with the squad, how he can get inside their heads is what matters. I thought Les Reed was a real gent (which he was and is) but he wasn't the right man at the time.
Parky was an inspiring captain at Reading by all accounts and as I said he does have a track record at Colchester of building a side. Then I assume he had both time and low expectations, two things I doubt he will have now.
Useless Parky fact. When he retired/left Reading Keith Jones was bought as his replacement

If the Money from Bent covered Dowies spending spree, where did the money from Luke Young, Bougherra, the sale of Diawara, and i am pretty sure we only made a £500,000 loss on Traore (not including the points he cost us obviously) go, we've got rid of quite a few players here or there, some on frees admittedly, some are undisclosed, but surely we didn't get nothing for thomas.
We were apparently a club with perfect books, and now all of a sudden we are £20mill in debt - if you ask me, the board has pulled their money out of the club and are just waiting for the new owner to arrive, the sacking of pardew will be to hopefully keep us up and to make the club look more inviting to potential investors. I can't see them wanting to fork out money for someone like curbs, allardyce etc. as i am sure even though curbs loves the club he will command a large fee.
I think Parky is the man who'll get the job. Matty holland player manager would be fun though, bring in Gareth Ainsworth and get him to go a bit mental on the pitch every now and again, at least they'd be a couple of people to get the boys going on the pitch.
I hope Pardew takes the pre-match music, the little kid announcing that we can't swear and the announcer with him... it is the last he can do, sure they would like a nice barbados holiday too!
What's the club with the funny pitch side announcer, the one who goes on about stringing you up from the floodlights if you are caught smoking - snap him up!
If I remember correctly, £14m of the £20m is loans from the directors, so that's hardly pulling their money out of the club. And where's the money from transfers gone? Mostly on other transfer fees - Gray, Varney, McLeod, McCarthy - signing on fees for the free transfers, and continuing to pay the wages of those on Premiership contracts (Marcus Bent, Amdy Faye, Darren Ambrose, Jerome Thomas etc). Getting relegated put a massive dent in our income, and we're still in the process of reducing our running costs accordingly.
Giggled loads over the 7 Zambucca's WSS! I'd even drink Zambucca which I think must taste similar to paint stripper if I'd had any in the house on Saturday night.
Hope Parky steps into the breach and does a great job and lifts the team and supporters but only time will tell.
Honestly thought Pards was a good appointment at the time and I'm sorry that it didn't work out but enough was enough just hope it doesn't break the bank and get us into even more of a pickle.

spot on Ali.
People seem to forget we had debt before we went down and when we went down and it still costs a lot of money just to run the club day to day with player wages, keeping up the Valley etc despite all the sales and costs.
As for the board taking their money out I bet they would be having a wry smile if they read that given the extra £14m they put in over the summer.

Excellent, we should be across the half way line by about 40 minutes on Tuesday night then...
The board will make a call.
Let's hope that if they call heads than the coin lands the right way !!!
