Well a great sense of relief tinged with apprehension for the future. It's going to need somebody with some serious strength of character to turn this under-performing rabble into a team.
Its a shame it had to come to this, but it was inevitable. Lets hope the board get the right man for what, lets face it, is a major job. The decision,as to who is the next manager, is one of the biggest and most important decisions of recent times. We can't afford any more mistakes.
Yeah its a sense of relief for me really, not joy. Today's result confirmed that we really had gone on far too long under the (now ex) regime.
The board need to get the right character into the club now, the one who can give everyone a massive boost and hopefully get these so-called talented players playing.
Pards had lost the dressing room due to changing the team too much brining in to many loan signings and the players were upset about it and didnt play for him. We were in a Spurs situation where the players wearnt playing for pards. The board should not come out of these as saints they have been destroying all the work not just by themselves but the hard work, support and most importantly the PREMIERSHIP TV money and money that the fans have put in throughout the years and Curbishley efforts. 4 managers in 3 years in any other organisation would mean a failure at the very top of it. Getting rid of Reid, big chris, Magic certainly did not help Pards.
I am very angry and upset about this and what has happened over the last 3 years. I liked Pards and I hope he succeeds somewhere else.
I stayed until the end as I wanted to avoid the rush, but like others have said, I just chatted to mates had a bit of a laugh the result had become obvious after the second went in, I have never left early and dont think I ever will but respect others choice to do as they wish, Mr Pardew's tactics have had me baffled for weeks but that era is now over thanks Alan for your efforts but unfortunately they were not good enough. As has been said before " we have Sh*te before" but then the lack of skill was made up 100% effort, we need to get someone in who can motivate the group of individuals we have into a team, and a team worthy of wearing the Red shirt of Charlton Athletic, who that maybe I have no idea, one thing is certain I will take my seat next week and support those Reds Shirts of my beloved Charlton.
Actually. I take no pleasure in this either, and still find it difficult to see what a mess we are in. I wish Parky all the brst, but agree with others that he perhaps is too close to what has gone on so may be the Les Reed appointment. I hope not, as don't think I can stand seeing things get even worse.
As a confirmed member of the rose tinted tendency, I'm just relieved it's over to be honest. I'm a little apprehensive about whether Parkinson is going to be tainted by association, but we'll have to wait and see. QPR's probably going to be a bit too early to judge, but Southampton is going to be a crunch match.

As I was saying in the pub before the AP thing was announced, no reason to look anywhere else. I think Parky will do a great job, is the right choice and will be happy to step out from under dingbat's shadow. In a month's time, you'll all be singing his praises. All he has to do is keep us up and I reckon he'll actually place us 8th-12th this season, in with a good play-off shout for next season. Trust me, Pardew was the problem here full stop, it's wrong to smear Parky with the same poop, Parky will do us good. Watch and learn.
that sounds good to me.... im grabbing anything positive at the mo..... please pardew has gone, I dont really hold a grudge, I just feel he thought he a bit too good looking for us... or something, anyway sod that conversation.....
Parkinson, show us what youve got ..... you dont need todo much, a few wins and we will all start ot believe again....

I reckon i'm going with this- anyway, if we are looking for new finance/ owners, i'm not sure after paying off, in whatever proportion, Pardew's contract, the board are going to want to create any further liability unless they can get the man they are convinced can do the job, and i reckon their is only one person THEY would put in that catagory...
Hopefully we will have learnt from the Les Reed situation.
All comes down to how heavily involved Parkinson has been, I suppose - but if he did lead on some of the training and tactics etc, then for the sake of another (smaller) payout, he should be probably be following Pardew out of the door.
Remember Les's comments after that first defeat at Reading, saying something like that it had been a good opportunity to see what the problems were, when he himself had been there from the start of pre-season?! And did we still end up paying him off a few weeks later anyway, by which time we had sunk even further.
My gut feeling is that someone new needs to come in to sort it out and take a fresh look at the players we've got (youngsters, loanees and all) before the transfer window.
That said, if we can't afford whoever the best candidate may be, the plus point of Parkinson over Reed is that at least he has been a manager himself before (even if not such a good one at Hull), and so I can see the logic of giving him a go until the end of the season.
This would make sense both from a financial point of view and the fact that, with a bit of organisation and fresh motivation, we should still easily be able to achieve at least a mid-table position by May.
If that's the chosen approach, hopefully it will be announced relatively quickly so that everyone involved knows where they are and any speculation involving Curbs and co can stop.
It's stability we need right now ........and a new manager needs to get all the dressing room right behind him.
If Parky can do that, then he's the right person for the job.
I have said earlier that Parky should not be tarnished with Pardews errors the buck stops with him and him alone,
I do feel that as a no2 you have certain inputs into the team and what goes on even if they are not the final say, I dont think Parky is the problem but i also dont feel he is the answer
a bit miffed as to what we need to do now but i feel it must be done quickly
Parkinson was brought in because Pardew said that he was important for the coaching. Our coaching has been how shall I put this.......poor. Get rid ASAP.

Ive just cracked the wine open with the missus in celebration

My confidence in the board getting the right man is fragile though.
Oh well, onwards and upwards.
