I have changed my mind since the last poll. Like AFKA I would give him another 6 or 7 games (and that includes Bristol City, Burnley, Barnsley home games) and see where we are.
Ive not changed my mind that mid term sackings are a bad idea but can anyone honestly do any worse with the players he has at his disposal? Look at the table.
In the summer he bleated on about the mistakes he made and learnt from (bad loan signings etc etc) and he is making the same ones over and over again.
Yet this time we havent got off to the start we had when Reid was playing well this time last year.
Would any one of us on here play Youga tomorrow, no. Will he play, course he will.
He spent £6m on 3 strikers last season and not one of them can finish their dinner.
He cocked up by selling Lisbie when he was properly fit for the first time in years, he should never have sold Iwelumo for that money when he could have cut his losses on Gray who still doesnt look settled down here.
He harps on about playing short sharp incisive football yet we continually go route one.
He still hasnt sorted out the central defence as I posted in April, and yes that does include Hudson who is slower than Phil Chapple on heroin.
In the time that he has been here his only successes in the transfer market have been Weaver, Bailey, Primus, Iwelumo, ive lost count of the failures.
Between 1991-2007 I missed no more than 5 away games any one season, never missed a home game,. this year I havent been away and already have missed a couple of homes, its nothing to do with being crap as some of those early years were very crap, but its the first time I have ever really disliked the manager to the extent that I would rather stay at home than go to the game.
well said southend.... it's ok being crap when we were a very very poor club who spent next to nowt on players and were playing in front of 10k crowds but i''d like to think we have moved on from them days and if the 'take over' doesn't take place i don't think we're too far away from being 'rubbish' and poorly suppoted again imo
I didn't vote back in May but would have said give him all of this season. However, I've changed my mind - he's tried my patience to the limit.
Am I right in saying it's now 36 games without back-to-back wins? To me, that's almost the worst stat of all, even more depressing than sitting in 19th place with six defeats.
Other teams have good runs and bad runs and you hope the former last longer than the latter, which over a season puts you in a respectable position. Used to happen under Curbs all the time. Now we seem to have no spells, no form and no runs - just turn up and hope for the best and every time we manage a win, a stupid comment from Pardew about how we've turned some mythical corner and he's looking forward to us building on it. Which we never do, of course.
Completely agree with all the comments here about his excuses - they've become almost as irritating as the poor performances they invariably follow. If we lose tomorrow night, I predict it will be because we've been unsettled by the uncertainty surrounding the takeover. I'd expected that one on Saturday, but then the two red cards gave him something else to latch on to and he thought "I'll keep that one in my pocket for Tuesday night".
Realistically, nothing moves until the takeover is settled one way or the other. But if new owners come in, I trust it will goodbye from Dubai before he's even given the chance to think up another excuse.
Lets face it this is a poor league, and charlton are a very poor side. Our league position tells the story perfectly. The current manager favours loanee players ahead of the talent like Moo2, Semedo, Shelvey, and Dickson. These guys should be in the team ahead of any loanee player. I see every former charlton player doing well for their new teams, and that is either down to atitude/training or both. Prime example is Iwelumo. It is the manager who picks the team and choose the tactics. We had the players to do it last year. We have the players to be in the top six this year. No more loanees and no more excuses.
I voted to give him the whole season and I'm still of that opinion. I'm not Pardew's biggest fan but then I'm not his biggest critic either. He has good and bad points, but we're currently in a position where throughout the club we're going to have these people. We're not Premiership, so we don't have world beaters.
I think improvement is required but I'm still positive Pards' can achieve this. However AFKA's 7 game period of 4 homes 3 aways needs around 12-15 points for me to be satisfied and a minimum of 10 for me to still be as lenient.
If this takeover is going to happen - and I am deeply sceptical that it will - then it's time to get rid of him
All talk until that situation is resolved is pretty futile, if Zabeel buy us Pards will be toast in my opinion - we will have the resources to bring in a better manager.
If they don't buy us, only a huge upturn in our results & form would be sufficient to save his neck - otherwise get rid - he has done nothing for us really since the first few games/false dawn of his tenure.
The main reason for me hoping for the takeover is so that we can replace him. No sign of improvement at all. A friend of a friend told me that a director said to him on Sat at the match that 'the money is on it way'....so here's hoping!
I was one of those that wanted to give Pards the season, however, my patience is wearing mighty thin. No improvement on the pitch since we were relegated is a massive factor. Charlton for me have always had fighting qualities, with exception of a few players, we are lacking that, and the frustrates me. I have lost confidence in him basically.
I think we should give him to the end of the season. We are still in this league and any one can have a good or bad run. If we get to December and we have not improved and we have funds there is an argument that we bring in a new manager and build a new team. The current squad is very much Pardews and without new funds we don't have the cash to change the manager or the team
Maglor, I'd like to believe this "good run" is about to happen. The odds seem stupendously high against it, though. I posted earlier saying I think it's now 36 matches since we even won two games back-to-back, let alone went on a "run" !
One thing that's shocked me since we came down is the slash & burn approach to cost cutting, how much did we sell Bent to Spurs for?! Surely we can't be that skint? I just hope that the scouting network hasn't been decimated at the same time that the whiff of previous success is fading. I'd stick with Pards for the meantime though.
Agree with the points about loanees, surely they should be there to fill in the gaps (injury, suspension etc) not keeping contracted players out of the side. Can anybody serioulsy say that Cranie is better than Moo2? How does he expect the team to develop? Primus is obviously different as Fortune is out.
Pards has yet to find a decent balance to the side, but i'd give him the rest of the season.
I have to agree with Pilchard and HeathHero. I was pleased when he arrived, and for a while seemed to have turned it round ,at least enough to give us some hope for the future. Sadly, we seem to be getting worse and worse ,with just the odd decent performance. I m beginning to lose faith that he will turn it round, as he he doesnt seem to see the problems that need addressing. It's always bad luck, bad decisions etc etc. It's never bad selections, bad tactics, bad signings etc. Get your head out of the sand Pards. I dread to think what the moral will be like if the takeover doesnt go through.
One of the main reasons I hope this takeover happens is so that we aren't saddled with a lemon of a manager who will be blaming all around him as we slide into league one...
Still, I'm trying not to get my hopes up. It isn't easy though!
[cite]Posted By: KenTred[/cite]He is an ignorant, thick, self opinionated bore by all accounts. Doesnt make him a bad person though!
.
I was never in love with him when he came but he's never come over as ignorant, thick or a bore IMHO. Self opinionated with a touch of arrogance perhaps but maybe you need that to do the job he does.
My main criticism would be that perhaps he's not been self opinionated enough! Pick a system and a team and stick to it even when we are losing to give it time to settle.
When Pards was at West Ham i said to anyone that would listen that PArdew would be the next Charlton manager and make a bloody good one too. So after Dowie and Reed i was chuffed my prediction had come true. Pards was a good player for us and always seemed to be a class above (sometimes when i watched i thought he thought he was better than us! the goal he scored when we opend the east stand v southend, his celebration was so arragant!) So when he came in i thought here we go, an ex charlton man he would play the charlton way sign charlton players, how wrong we have been. i used to respect him but as the games go by its going fast. Parkinson should go to as he is a coach he is to blame for the tactics and the spirit in the camp, Kins is not ready for the stepup yet. We need strength in the team and discipline, we should have got Billy Davies from the start and not gone for Dowie just to piss Jordan off. Allerdyce would be worth a shout, Souness etc... Prove us wrong Alan get us back playing good stuff get us back up there in the mix up! on a totally personal point should the take over go through i would love curbs back.....
[cite]Posted By: adamtheaddick[/cite]Parkinson should go to as he is a coach he is to blame for the tactics and the spirit in the camp,
Sorry Adam, i strongly disagree with that. He is the managers assistant. The formation, style of play etc is set by the manager, not him. Similarly, neither you nor i have a clue what the spirit in the camp is like, but its not the manager's assistant job.
Sorry lads but coaching staff must have a say in things at some point, Davies didnt come because of Richard Murrays master plan of having Reed and Robson as part of the deal. Parkinson did do a great job at Colchester and i have nothing but respect for the guy, i just thing if Pards was to go a clean sweep would be the answer thats all i was saying lads. You only have to watch the players each week when the oppo score to see there heads go down and give up the ghost, no running to get the ball out of the net and charging to the centre spot to start again and say how dare you score against us!! so i have nothing against Parky i meet him once and he gave me an autograph top bloke just meant if Pards does go we should start again from top to bottom thats all lads.
I wrote this back in April
"If the club bosses feel that we're not progressing under Pardew, players aren't responding to his ideas, etc then i see nothing wrong with a change. It's widely accepted we have to go up next year or face many years in this division, so if by November theres no sign of improvement then what do the club do? Let the season run it's course or make some changes."
Now we're nearly at November i can see absolutely no sign of him improving the side, we have no idea, no creativity and no hope with him in charge.
Some people back in April questioned changing manager mid-way through a season and saying it does the team no favours but i also mentioned that Palace got rid of Taylor and brought in Warnock and Sheff Utd got rid of the hopeless Bryan Robson and brought in Blackwell. Both sides then improved dramatically under the new bosses.
For me Pardew has 4 more games to turn it round of which 3 are at home. We should be looking to get 8-9 points from these 4 games. We won't win all 4 but 3 wins or 2 wins, 2 draws is easily do-able. I'd probably accept 7 points minimum as tonight with a depleted side will be tough, but if he doesn't get that, then it's time to go.

This is the one vital thing that seems to be missing from the team.
[cite]Posted By: adamtheaddick[/cite] Davies didnt come because of Richard Murrays master plan of having Reed and Robson as part of the deal.
Thing is we don't know why Davies didn't take the job cos he never said. Maybe it was Reed and Robson, maybe it was not wanting to follow Curbs, maybe his wages were too low.
We don't know why but he did get as close to coming as asking for the home and away dug outs to be switched so he could stand behind the lino. If Reed and Robson was the deal breaker then why ask for those changes and why not just say so to Murray et al.
Interesting that he's not got another job yet since leaving Derby.
I like Parkinson and think he'll have a good career but I agree that if Pardew goes Parkinson is likely to leave with him, either because PP will want to stay with AP or, as you say, a new manager will want a new set up.
I hope Pardew turns it around but if you are looking for a replacement then the guy in the other dug out tonight would be a good shout as would Martinez
dont fancy martinez at all we wont get out of this league playing fancy foot ball we need players who av got the ba--s to stand up and fight and play with pride for the club and im afraid we havent got many players with those capabilities.
I thought he did ok when he first came. The board backed him in the transfer market, and we signed players good enough to get us back up. Problem is last year he kept on changing the team and formation. We all have our favourite players, but why Moo2, Semedo, and Dickson are overlooked is beyond me IMHO. Furthermore when you beat Reading 4-2 at home why change it for the next game.
Pardew is either tactically inept or just far too clever for the current crop of players. Whatever the reason I'm baffled. For me the team and results thus far are a reflection on Pardew's management style, consistently inconsistent.

We're playing the blame game here.
And we did offer Davies the job. He didn't take it. It was only then the board went for Dowie (huge mistake IMHO) but not to spite Jordan.
