Wasn't Pardew on the verge of being sacked at West Ham, the season he got them promoted? All the Spammers hated him if I recall.

Maybe he needs to be hated to perform....

We were very very lucky to get promoted the season we did under pardew.
We were shocking for the most part of that season, in particular defensively.
It wasn't a coincidence we started to perform better when Pardew finally decided to stop tinkering with various centre half pairings (many loan signings) and started playing the then youngsters Anton Ferdinand & Elliot Ward together. The fans had been crying for this for an age, it made so much more sense to play two decent youngsters whom had played together for years in the youths, than playing the likes of Malky mackay with christian dailly (bags of pace those chaps had), or Darren Powell & even hayden mulins out of position etc..
Had we not scrapped into the play offs that year Pardews managerial record would have looked a lot more suspect.
Well it looks like he's going to stop tinkering now so we might see an improvement, but then again West Ham weren't in the bottom three. Not long left for Pardew now...
