Has Alan Pardew now lost the fans?

Ok, last night was pretty shambolic. I havent seen any positive threads, and it sounded awful on the radio...apart from you that went....magnificent support heard loud and clear on the radio.

So playing devils advocate and not wishing to start any rows...just to see what the general feeling is, just say yes if you think Alan has lost the fans support and No if you think the "majority" are still behind the man in the hot seat. No debating on time frames or possible successors.....

My answer is YES

Lets try and keep it lighthearted :-) We need a bit of a cheer up

Came close to it last night but i'm not lost yet!
  • losing more and more with each game...

after the Sheffield Wednesday game, i said to myself that i would give him untill the Palace game.

So my answer is a firm Yes!!
  • Well I still have a miniscule of faith but only because I can't se what is better out there.

Other than giving it to Kinsella - i don't want managers like Sam Allardyce, Billy Davies, Alan Curbishley (although i would acceptif we got him) , who ot there AVAILABLE is realistically better.

    Name names people come on.

I even heard people singing for Chris Powell last night
  • I think the chris powell chants must of been to replace the woeful Youga..
  • It will get harder for him but two wins on the bounce and the fans will be singing his name again. We may not be Spurs yet but like many we are fickle.
  • John Gregary ??? ;-)
  • Joe Kinnear
  • Sung on Mass walking back to NJ re Pards out
  • [cite]Posted By: pete_tong1[/cite]John Gregary ??? ;-)

    oh dear

stop it you sensible ones you bugger
  • Shocking tactically. Seems oblivious to the problems that we all see in the stands.

And then to come out and say we were unlucky. He is pushing it. Maybe he wants a nice little pay out ;-)

  • I don't think pards is a bad manager, his record at reading and WHU prove that, I think he joined us at a very bad time and his skillset is not for clubs in a crisis. Someone like big Sam does have that skillset, look at Bolton, but even there he was given some cash. Curbs back is a no go for me, maybe kins I not sure.

The big problem for us is we still have a lot of players that don't sweat blood, there are 4 that from what I've seen this year that do and yet you'll disagree with 2 of them! Holland, Varney, Baily & Younga, yes Younga. A few more of that type and I'd be a happy boy. ZZ needs to get back and 2 up fromt is required at all times. Classic example of that was Forest away. Had we started with 2 up front we would have beaten them.

So, rant over, in answer to the question, not yet, but untill he goes we are a mid / low table CCC club.
  • i lost faith a long time ago
  • As the Persuaders sang "It's a thin line between love and hate"
  • I don't like the Manager full stop, but to want him out is another matter entirely, plus the shambles of a couple of years ago where we had three managers in three months makes me vary wary of making changes for the sake of it. I do feel he is losing more fans week on week though.
  • No

Despite feeling depressed this morning, I still support him 100%. But we very much need to see signs of progress over the next month. If that fails to materialise, then i'll start questioning my logic.

This is a long season where things change very quickly. One win can very quickly turn into a run. We're having a bad spell at the moment, but that's when you have to suck it in and ride it.

This time last year Watford were well clear and Palace were bottom 2.

Lets make one thing clear. We all know Pardew is not going to be sacked in the next few weeks, that is given. So people attempting to cause unrest now will serve no purpose other than seeing us implode further.

Is that what you really want ?
  • I don't want him out I just want him to stop feeding us crap after performances like that.
  • Oh but im cringing at the boos that will rain forth on saturday after 45 mins(praps 20) and then at 90. He aint going to put up with being booed every week. Pards ego needs to be loved.
  • I actually like Pards but last week I'd finally seen enough of him as manager of Charlton. I have to say I'm disappointed as I rated him based on his track record and experience, and he talked a good game.

Our team is capable of a top six finish on paper - I truly believe this, but Pards cannot get the best out of them and in my view is a very average Manager, he is tatically weak in my view in is strategy, selections and subsitutions. I voiced my concerns on this very early on (beginning of last season) before results started being poor. I don't pretend to be an expert of some kind I just say it as I see it, based on many years watching football from the stands.

In terms of losing the fans this largely goes on results I would guess. Its not like he hasn't had a long time at the club, however he does have a huge built in excuse due to the massive outgoings and few incomings during the summer. I actually think things might be worse if the restructuring hadn't ocurred.

I think if we go another up to say 10 games and win none he will most certainly have a problem with the fans, not sure about the Board though.
  • He's lost me after last night.

Was the worst Charlton performance i have seen in a long, long time.

Tactically all wrong and no passion from the players.

Looking at our squad and comparing it others in the division anything less than a top six finish is simply not good enough.

Sums up my feelings as well.
  • I am sure the board will love him to resign but his ego and accountant will *never* let him do that.

we are in the mire at the moment but the league is so poor we could be top 6 by November. . .
  • I actually think the more serious problem is he seems not be able to motivate the team, if that continues we may have a very rocky season ahead, hold on your hats.
  • Wasn't Pardew on the verge of being sacked at West Ham, the season he got them promoted? All the Spammers hated him if I recall.

Maybe he needs to be hated to perform....
  • My faith is pretty thin at the moment, but I'm not sure anyone better is available that we could actually afford - we've got no chance in affording people like Allardyce.
Curbs is a big step backwards IMO, so he's a no.

I just wish Pardew would stick to a settled side, what has Moo2 done wrong to warrant being dropped and replaced by the hapless Cranie.

Also, he admitted last season that he swapped and changed the team too much, and this season he seems to be doing exactly the same thing - obviously Fortune's injured so he needed replacing but to keep swapping Moo2 for Cranie, playing Gray with Varney, then dropping Gray to the bench just doesn't make sense.

Pardew needs to realise that a 5 man midfield just tempts us to hoof long balls, it doesn't work, so play 4-4-2 with Varney on the right and Gray and Toddy upfront, or even 4-3-1-2 with Varney just behind the front two.

Just read that back and it probably makes little or no sense, but it's from the heart - Charlton are my club always will be and I'm hurting today over the state of our performances and the fact that I have little or no confidence in the team at the moment.

Last night was a good start!!
  • Weegie was right!
Who's going to be brave enough to tell her that she was right at the very beginning?

    :o)

Seriously, as AFKA has just said, what's the point of demanding Pards gets sacked?

We are in a disappointing run and we do appear tactically deficient.
But will demanding the manager be sacked, and no doubt the inevitable boo-ing, make any difference to next Saturday's result?

It will just put our club into crisis.

Too many people come out with this sort of comment & I'm afraid I just don't agree. Looking at our squad on paper & comparing it to other teams, I would put us below halfway in terms of ability. Apart from Bailey, who lost the midfield battle to Ben Watson last night, our midfield is average at best. Our wingers are virtually non-existant. Our defence has one quality centre half & not much else, and we don't have a free scoring, reliable striker. Why do people keep saying that "on paper" we should be a top 6 team? I just can't see it!

Top post Pete, I have to say I agree.
  • Bouzza is a £5m pound player
Ambrose was a competent performer in the Premiership for Ipswich and Newcastle
    ZZ is China captain

if Palace have anyone as good as that apart from Watson in midfield then you're watching a different game of football to me
