I met Dave twice in two seasons when Watford came to your place in the Prem and this season. My Dad knew Dave from a previous workplace and they had kept in touch with each other for when the two sides met each other they could meet up. This season we met up in the consverative club on the high street. Dave had never met 3/4 of the group in the club and yet spoke to them and told jokes as if he'd known them his whole life. That was the sort of person he was. Although I'm only 15 and had met him twice I can honestly say he was the most funniest guys I've ever met. It was an amazing shock when I heard the news from my Dad and my thoughts immediately go towards his family. The stories he told me I'll never forget. He had us in stiches. RIP an inspiration for ever.
It's hard to add anything to what has been written above here. Reading the story in various papers of what happened, he seemed to only have thoughts of his family. My thoughts are with them and friends - Ian, I know how close you were...so sorry mate.
I'd heard of the incident through members of my family and have just got on here for the first time in a while. Truly tragic incident and my thoughts are with his wife, young son, family and friends. RIP.
funeral 10.30am. Perhaps we should observe a period of inactivity on the board in Dave's memory. Personally, I'm going to have my own minute's silence, outside the building.
I am a personal friend of Shelley's family and new Dave well - he was a larger than life bubbly character and a great dad. He also beat me at Boggle once and I've never forgiven him! I shall miss him very much. Was at the funeral this morning and there must have been 600 mourners there. A true testament to Dave's popularity. Vincent Goodman
I hope some of those that went this morning on their return will share with us stories from this morning, I bet there were was some laughter amongst the tears?
Huge turn out. Lots of personal stories from friends and family. Others who post on here will remember them better than me but what stuck in my mind was the vicar saying he'd never seen anything like Dave's toilet.
His loo was packed with Charlton memorabilia. Dave was always on to me to get him some Charlton carpet with the hand and sword on it from the Valley
just came to this thread and realised with mounting sadness that it was indeed THE Dave Davies, who I knew from the advertising business. He used to be on the internet mailing list years back, and I always felt that he was a real mate there, even though our paths had hardly crossed. Only now reading all the tributes I fully realise what a great guy he was. In Prague tonight, a candle burning brightly and a toast drunk to your memory, Dave.
We just received this touching message from Shelley Davies:
Just wanted to somehow thank all the Charlton fans that contributed to Daniel's fund. I thought you would like to know that Daniel attended his first Charlton game on Saturday and absolutely loved it. He was as noisy and animated as his Daddy would have been.
That's very touching, glad that, unlike many of us, his first game was memorable for the right reasons! I didn't know Dave but I'm sure he would've been very, very proud.
Weren't a member of CL when this happened but I had just got off that train when it happened to go the red barn, didn't know he was a Charlton fan, feels like yesterday not 4 years ago. RIP to him and thought to his family.
Only saw this thread yesterday and didn't realise how old it was. Assumed I wouldn't have known him.................then I saw the pictures of him on the facebook.
I remember Dave very well from E block around 94/97 seasons as I was working that area as a steward. When everyone around was singing "Red Army" he'd always come up with alternatives which would get some strange looks and always bring out a smile on my face, such as "Cheese Sarnie" "Byriani" "Reg Varney"..........etc. Remember him jumping me from behind after the play-off semi in 97, and never saw him again as I gave up stewarding and moved to the West stand. Often thought if I'd bump into him again someday but now know why I haven't.
Like others have said that knew him much better than me, such an infectious character and always had a big smile on his face.
Hope you're still looking down on us Dave. RIP.
Can anyone tell me what happened to him, if not being dis-respectful.

Glad to see there was such a strong turnout for a man who clearly touched - and is loved by - many people.

As we left they played Valley Floyd Rd
Its midday at Flamingo Park in Sidcup, and i'm sure if you were friends with Dave they would be delighted to see you there.
