Chris Powell - a true legend, the icing on the cake yesterday - at last a trully enjoyable day at the valley, had all the ingredients, passion, promise and atmosphere. THANKS SIR CRIS.
Yep thanks Sir Chris - and I loved his kids cartwheels !
What a great servant and nice bloke. My Son, some years ago, went to a Charlton Xmas party (no parents allowed) and the pictures he got taken with Chris are fantastic and you can tell what a top bloke he is - he had time for every kid that night.
very emotional seeing sir chris leave the pitch and when he scored yesterday...
will never forget how much pride i had at villa park that night when he pulled on the england shirt , shed a tear then as well
sir chris a true legend
thankyou sir alan for signing him
Hey, Chris ...... if you're reading this thread, then you know now how much we really appreciate you.
If we see a new poster, something like, 'Sir Chris' or 'Chrissy in the last 4 minutes', could it just be you?
Wherever you go Chris, always know that you earned the right to be a legend at Charlton.
We love you!
Good luck and thanks ....... and get yourself back here asap!
A true gent and what a perfect end to the career of a legend. I think we all hope that he becomes a great coach and deep down we all believe he will one day return and manage at the Valley.
Mrs Red_Pete was saying yesterday wouldn't it be brilliant if Chrissie got a goal in his final game. I was just replying that it would probably have to be a penalty as the man rammed the ball into the back of the net! Cue lots of tears & laughs. Well done Chris. If I remember this season for nothing else it will be for that goal.
Chris is an example of what we want our players to be - the blood flowing Red white and Charlton...passion through and through - superb and will be sadly missed. I wish him luck in what ever route he persues. lets hope some of our new blood will follow in his footsteps and be as passionate about the club as Chrissy is...
The thing about Chris is he has played footie at the highest level with a smile on his face. He seems to be a true gent and always has time for the fan. How very very very few of todays players can say either of those ?

The last of the breed, there will never be his like again
Unbelievable. You couldnt have made it up.What an amazing way to end your final game. Thanks for giving us even more joy and memories Chris. My most emotional moment at football for years. All the very best mate, you deserve it .
It takes something in this day and age for a footballer to be genuinely loved by supporters at every club they've played for. And you have managed that. Sum's up what a fantastic gentleman you are.
So proud that you chose to spend time with our wee Club.............it's been a privilege.
Thanks for the goal though. Another great memory for us fans and a fitting way for our goodbye.
A football gent.I bumped into him once and I unashamedly asked for his autograph, bit embrassing for a bloke of my age, and then his pen run out halfway through.....so we both got embarassed.
That free role was made for him ;-)...beats his last goal which went in from 1 yard off one of his gonads.
I had a tear in my eye when the ball hit the back of the net. I couldn't bring myself to celebrate the other 3 goals in ecstatic fashion however me and those with me went absolutely mental. One of those David Beckham Vs Greece Holywood moments that are actually too good to be true!
Chris Powell you're an absolute legend. I feel privilaged to have seen you play. Thanks for the memories.
The way Chris Powell left us, the goal, the emotion of it, the dignity of the guy, the respect he was shown, his two kids doing cartwheels and not quite getting the jumping out of the tunnel bit , Matt Holland and others waiting for him, a true Charlton legend and a great footballer and a good bloke. Powelly, for me, all that stuff made up for a disappointing season, so if you are reading this, thanks for all your entertainment over the years and all the jumps out of the tunnel! And I just knew as you crept into the box you were going to score. Why have we played you out of position for so many years, you are a natural goal poacher! All the best.
As I mentioned in a post a few weeks ago Chris Powell looked after my son at the training ground when he went to interview Mark Kinsella, Chris Powell is one of those rare breed of men, not just a fine player, a real gent, who takes time out to actually talk to people like us, there are very few like him in any walk of life, let alone the world of professional football, where players sometimes can be very remote from the supporters. Only a few players earn the respect and admiration of their fans in the way Chris has, I hope some day soon the Club can find a way to get him back in some capacity. A true legend not just just in football but as a man.
I was at Coventry away (funnily enough) the day after his first call up and I shed a little tear when he came out to a warm up - he looked embarrassed to hear his name sung out! Tho he milked it then, just like he did saturday and he deserved to do so.
Seeing him wipe his tears with his charlton shirt on Saturdasy, led me to shed another few tears.
I remember his first season with us when we had worked out that he was a great left back, but had yet to uncover the full character behind the footballer. Then we played Derby and the reception he got from the fans of his old club showed us what special esteem he is held in. The rest is the stuff of legend and history - I was looking straight down on him from the North Upper as he smashed that ball through Schmeichel on Sunday, and time just seemed to stop still. Nothing was going to stop it. I don't think I've celebrated one goal so much since all of them at Wembley. If I end up renewing the season tickets after all, it's your fault, Chris!
I had money on a 3-1 win on Sunday, never been so pleased to lose £60 in my life.
Cheers for the memories Chris, definitely a bit of moisture in my eyes at the end.
Hopefully he will be back with Southend next season.
Felt sad watching that second half, Powell and P Varney leaving, Thomas no doubt on his way out, almost like the final part of our Premiership class was disintegrating.
I know Thomas isnt a legend like the other two but anyone who doesnt think he has been a part of our recent history needs to go and buy Pride and Premiership.
I know a bloke who works at Southend, he's met Sir Chris at a number of functions down there and says he is an absolute diamond. The first time I noticed CP was playing against us for Southend in 91-2, and I was pleased and not a little astonished that Derby sold him to us. One nice moment I particularly remember was at Maine Road when we won 4-1, we had just got stuffed 5-0 at Upton Park and CP was one of those axed, although all 11 could have copped it after that one. Anyway, Konchesky got a run out and did well, and at the final whistle the first bloke off the bench to congratulate him was Sir Chris. Of course, it wasn't long before he was back in the team, and a couple of months later he was in the England squad.

I promise you when he came on one of my lot said wouldn't it be funny if he scored.
You could not have written that script.

Gawd love him.
I bet Curbs bit the bloke's hand off when he learned Powelly was available ........ !
And Derby's loss, definitely proven to be our gain.

Cheers Chrissy, and I look forward to you staying at the Valley for a few more years!
The former England international told the South London Press he remains hopeful a new contract can be sorted out in the next few weeks.
"I would like to stay and I don’t really want to play anywhere else so with any luck something can be agreed soon," he said.
"Ideally I would like to stay on as a coach, but with a playing contract so if there was an emergency I could fill in.
"It is a down to the financial position of the club, though, not because I am asking for big money.
"A lot of people thought that Sunday was my last game for Charlton, but I have never said that.
"I will sit down with the club as soon as possible and get things ironed out one way or another."
I've never had a "where were you when..." moment as special as that one. I felt so, so privileged to be part of it.
Thanks for the memories, Chris, you legend.
