  • Chris Powell = Charlton Legend
  • Fantastic end to a fantastic career. If somebody had written a script that Chris Powell would score in his final match for Charlton at the Valley you would say it was too far-fetched.

    Chris Powell a true legend.
  • [Not true and unfair. Pardew said he wanted to keep Powell BEFORE he was given his new budget for next year. He now knows what the budget is and has come to realise that we can't afford to keep Powell, that's the plain truth.
You can have a go at Pardew for a lot of things but this is not one of them.[/quote]

So no more... Pards should have kept his gob shut then..... too full of it....

He was asked a question, he answered it, why do you have a problem with that? Or did you just disagree with the answer?

Pardew was under no pressure to pick Powell today, we had Sodje on the bench as defensive cover and he could easily have picked Racon or another player who is likely to be part of the future, while Powell is part of the past. In football there is often little or no room for sentimentality, but you should credit Pardew with making that decision and then to give him a final few minutes run out.
  • I don't get it when people rightly or wrongly pick on an individual, manager or player, and then forever stick to their mantra of anihilating that person, oblivious as to whether that's appropiate or not.

People are entitled to their own prejudice, I suppose.

    They are called self-fulfilling prophecies.

Quite a few of the Pardew out crew haven't posted this evening, coincidence?
  • too be fair, Charlie Block has - the twat!

The exception that emphasises the rule.
  • Yeah BFR, you get the impression he just loves to go out of his way to be "different"!

I would have said "challenged" in some way.
  • Out of respect to Sir Chris- Let's not reduce this thread regarding a really true Charlton legend to bitching about a poster on this board.

What sticks in my mind above anything about Chris Powell was the piece on him going to a local hospital on Xmas day after training to dish out presents..

In a day and age when words like legend are used way too often, they can't be used enough about this guy!
  • when he scored i had the biggest smile on my face. i haven't been happier at the valley than today for ages
  • The best left back I hve ever seen for the club, a true gent you will come back in some capacity.
  • [cite]Posted By: ross[/cite]when he scored i had the biggest smile on my face. i haven't been happier at the valley than today for ages

I am with you on that one, with a few chuckles thrown in for good measure.

I blame Pards for cracking the permanent frown I have worn, at the Valley this season, today
  • This is a Chris Powell appreciation thread.

    PLEASE keep it as that.

[cite]Posted By: Harry Gregory[/cite]Is he the only player who has played three times for Charlton?

A fantastic script for a truly nice person and great servant of the club. He is up there in the top five of all-time Charlton legends for me. Sir Chris thank you!

Eddie Firmani played three times for Charlton too, another legend just like Chrissy Powell.
  • fantastic that was, you couldnt make it up, me n wss were saying of if we get a pen who ya reckon wha take it, obviously powelly and we said imagine if he scored, we'd go mental and 2 mins later the geezer pops up to score, that has made my footballing year, 100% bang on top notch you couldnt make it up bollox, i was over the moon and have not stopped smiling, i am sitting here, after about 5 beers at charlton, a bottle of red wine at me brothers pretty smashled up absolutely glad that sir chris graced my day as he did, topman i love you powelly dudeman.

    legend sir chrissy of powell.
  • PARDS SORT IT OUT

    OME MORE YEAR
  • The standing ovation when he came on. The standing ovation again as he made his first challenge. The standing ovation when incredibly he scored. The standing ovation at the end of the game. A fitting Addicks tribute to a great footballer and an even better bloke. I am so glad I was there to see it. I shed a little tear - it was such a perfect ending.

Thanks Sir Chris for everything. It has been a priviledge to have watched you. When you got your first England cap, it was as if the club and fans had been rewarded. Actually it was your quality that earned you the right to play amongst the elite.

Gone away but never forgotten. Best wishes for the future. I'm sure you'll be back one day.

You have 101 threads for your Pards bashing, leave this for what it is, a tribute to an amazing player.
  • Bermuda loves Sir Chris Powell!
  • Dicko/Carter loves Chris Powell. No one could of written that today.
  • Top bloke, a true pro footballer, and a fitting end to his playing career with the Addicks. Thanks Chris, its been a pleasure....good luck with whatever you do in the future and hopefully we will meet again soon.

Monday morning stiill grinning thinking about sir chris, one of those magic moments just like the play off final
  • A nice peice of symmetry that Powell came on for Shelvey. The old replacing the new or perhaps the future allowing the past a final swansong.

In ten years time what will the game be most remembered for? Powell's exit or Shelvey's home debut?
  • OoohAaah openly cried like a big girls blouse and even P/Pete admitted he was welling up.. . .

I now have that picture of Sir Chris as my screensaver, would make a great statue that btw. . . . OoohAaah?

I just hope we don't ruin Shelvey, he looks like a mixture between Bowyer & Parker, great engine, can actually pass a ball (shock horror a player that passes to feet!), finds space naturally, wants the ball and gets into the box.

Shame he's a West Ham fan but you can't have it all eh!
  • There have been times in the last two seasons i didntmrecognise the club i supported for yonks. It was all very none CAFC like. Yesterday with The Legend That Is Chris Powell coming on , scoring and the reception-he received-------- well we had the REAL CAFC back at last.

The highlight of the season ?

The picture of him in his England top is still on the wall in my mums kitchen, the only one she has ever put up.
  • its all been abit emotional tonight..... really sorry to see Powelly go and really disappointed I missed the match for obvious reasons, its games like this that make you KNOW again that the biggest thing you miss is Charlton Athletic Football Club....

I thought it was the highlight of the season, although the game itself had that feel to it. What with our second goal - seasons best, the promise of youth, and then the icing on the cake!. After the depressing times that preceded it, there was hope again with the reminder of past glories which could be ours again.

Roll on fixture lists, pre-season and visits to the County Ground......sigh!
