  • Yeah, good luck Peter and thanks!
  • Top man and will be very hard to replace.
  • Very sorry to hear this - he's Charlton through and through. Big shoes to fill.
  • Well, good luck to Peter. Thoroughly decent bloke who has done a fantastic job.
  • Top man, will be nigh on impossible to replace
  • It says it's for personal reasons... Wonder what they mean by that? New job/club to go to maybe? Or just had enough? Maybe thinks there's just too many Varneys at the club?
  • First conspiracy theory of the day...

We've got a new owner or sponsor and Peter Varney doesn't agree with it.
  • they are recruiting already...

where do i send my CV??

Lets leave off the "personal reasons" or conspiracys for now eh?

Lets thank him for all his tremendous hard work. Anything that comes out will be in the future or when its deemed necessary to release it.

"Theres only one Peter Varney" on saturday please guys.
  • I blame Pardew.
  • good luck and add my thanks to the many for all you've done pv...
  • nothing to do with this new guy coming in

Very sorry to hear this. Certainly, as I—an outsider—understand it, one of the pillars of the club's renaissance.

More transitions to look forward to... let's hope we're able to find some stability and a platform from which to move forward.

Conspiracy no. 2: Is Suz being promoted? ;-)

He presided over a lot of change and expansion in Turnover and profile of the Club and in my opinion did a terrific job.

On a personal note I e mailed him on a matter in a match programme and he replied personally and also rectified the matter in the following programme.

You can't ask a lot more than that.
  • I only really spoke to him once. My Dad has worked closely with him for years & speaks extremely highly of him. Will be hugely missed, just hope the replacement knows what he/she is in for. Massively difficult job & a thankless one at that.

So when are you telling everyone about your promotion then Suzi :-)
  • I've just had VARNEY put on the back of my shirt as well , fcuking timing
  • Very disappointed. I would put him equal to and possibly above Murray and Curbishley as someone who has moved this club forward so far so fast. it will be a hard act to follow, I'm sure.

  • When Terrence Brown comes in as new owner the new exec will Alrdrige.
  • I remember him from way back when we were at Selhurst Park and when he used to come to the' Hayes & West Wickham Supporters Group' meetings .

Top guy and a credit to Charlton .

Good luck to him in whatever he does.
  • i blame andrew mills
  • good luck PV all the best you are a legend in what you achieved here and will be sorely missed and hard to replace
  • "and will look back with pride on some of the achievements made"

    And so you should!

I'm we should all be saying thank you to someone who has done so much for our club and who is, at the end of the day one of us, a fan.

Thanks Peter, it's people like you that make Charlton the best team in the world.
  • he'll turn up at west ham and everyone'll be bitter towards his achievements at the club
  • Not only a very competent Chief Exec but also had time for the fans, twice I contacted him over matters that I thought to be unfair and both times he replied and righted the wrongs.

Thank you Reg and good luck to you and yours.
  • I wont be bitter if he turns up at West ham tells everyone how lucky he is that Charlton gave him his first job in footie management and he owes them everything !!

    RV good luck and thanks.
  • on a serious note whenever i contacted him he was always very helpful and obliging...top man
  • I've also received personal correspondance from PV in the past. Back in 2003 when there was a big off over kit changeover, a generic email was sent out having a massive pop at the fans for posting so much criticism on the mailing list. I thought it was a bit out of order and responded, after which he took the time to apologise for such a strong worded email and its generic nature.

Top man, done a huge amount for the club, will be sorely missed.
