He's got Toddy & Reidy out and nobody to unlock defences - although you'd expect Thomas to do that. Or would you?
There's nobody else in the team at the mo with the guile, vision & the ability to put their foot on the ball and split defences. We just don't create enough - and we're not lethal enough in front of goal. 34 year old Kevin Phillips, anyone?
Plenty of workrate & toiling but nowhere enough creativity.
We had a few chances - notably Ambrose towards the end, and Iwelumo just failing to get on to the end of a cross across the six yard box - but all in all we got we deserved.
Very dodgy at the back. Thought Fortune was the most solid and the best, while Bougherra was pretty much comical.
Agree Weegie - absolutely crazy to start with lone striker today. He certainly has options up front. Can't believe he didn't change the team around playing 4 games in 10 days.
I like Pards but he's starting to test my patience.
AllLefty, what was going on today with Paddy - giving away the penalty, getting booked & subbed in 36 mins? I take it he was subbed to prevent another yellow and being reduced to 10 men?
I have been optimistic about this season but I am getting really concerned now. We seem to play the same players week in week out (barring injuries/suspensions) so nobody gets a rest. This says to me Pardew is only confident in a small group of 15/16 players and has no confidence in the rest of the squad. Pardew also seems to be naive tactically, as the system never seems to vary no matter who we are playing. I have lot of time for Pardew and was happy when he became manager but at the moment he seems to have run out of ideas and dosen't seem able to motivate the players. I don't have the answers but then if I did I would be managing a football club and earning a good wage.
He has no imagination and seems to have lost the ability to motivate.
I'll back you up there I've never been convinced by him. A lot of managers will have an instant impact on a team and last Xmas he did that and lifted us and then we faded towards the end of the season. He has wasted money on some questionable buys ( Varney, McCleod, Mcarthy). You're right 4-5-1 at home in the chumpionship says it all plus I don't understand why he brought Dickson back and not play him. Pardew Out!!!
Defence has looked iffy all season and of course not helped by our injuries and suspensions. Midfield without Reid has no creativity and although they huff and puff we create little there. In fact I think our current midfield looks decidedly mid table. Sam and Thomas flatter to deceive. Lots of touches but they do not hurt the opposition enough. All our strikers look average to me. The playoffs look a million miles away. Don`t forget most of this side are Pardew buys. Ithink if we have any money Pards is buying to save his job !
it's gone beyond a joke we're on a one way ticket to nowhere at the moment, as i've said before if dowie had stayed how bad off would this club be, worse than we are now??..... Bouggy £2m mcleod £1m are as bad as traore and faye's signings... i've booked my holiday for may cos we' wont make the play off final!
pardew out? but who in , martin jol, billy davies not sure what the solution is .... give me the so called boring years of curbs over this so called exciting visit to the chumpionship
On a realistic note.......If what now looks impossible actually does happen and we do get promoted....How many of this squad could hack the prem ? I can count three.
pardew talking about the reasons for our poor performance today said it might have been down to the 'pressure of playing the bottom of the league' team ?????
Are you in a bad mood after that. today, Rothko? Well join the club! I was still semi tongue in cheek starting this thread, especially conscious of the fact that I wasn't actually at the match. However, our current position is pretty alarming and false optimism doesn't seem to be helping.
pardew must no that promotion is the only way to shut up people anything less is failure.long way to go but booting up to big chris aint gonna get us to the promised land.

Nah, go look at the accident thread, and then get a reality check from the distance of Glasgow

I heard that news first thing this morning, Rothko, and my deepest sympathies go to the families involved.
Your comment on this thread seemed OTT and out of context - sorry.

We must tighten up at the back.

McCarthy went off past Pardew and headed straight for the tunnel. You certainly got the impression that he wasn't best pleased..

Or would Kins be up to it? At least I believe he cares about the future of our club and not just his own image/ bank balance.
Unbelievably, still only 7 points from winning the title.
Okay, I'll get real.
Unbelievably, we are still cack.
is this a first??
a slight hint of negativity from oggy, oh no the end is nigh;-)
We're 5th in the league, not 23rd.

yeah a lower league than we were in 18 months ago....

LOL!
3 managers in a year, relegation and selling Darren Bent couldn't dent my optimism.
But now I'm beginning to crack.....
Charlton 1 SuperKev 2
SuperKev beat us single handed. He knew the rest of his team were just bottom of the league cack.
Sign him Pards, quick!
You're right, OoAah......I'm losing it.
