    Henry says it does

90% not going implies 10% are. i don't think we will take 2000 up there.

Ah, but I said "people on here" pbs. The thing on the left says there are 730 registered users, so I was reckoning on only about 73 of them going.
    ;o)
On reflection, that's maybe still a bit high - considering there were only 100 or so people on the "Who's going to Ewood thread" last year!

well wigan last year was kid for a quid and i managed to swindle it (3 years out and an away fan!) so looks like it's just preston playing silly buggers
  • I must admit as I am not going I am finding this very hard to get upset about. It'll be all the sweeter when we cane them anyway. Perhaps we should all boycott the game & watch it in the Pub then Preston get F*** All.

can't exactly say the support will affect the team? do the away crowd usually raise the way they play away from home?
  • At the end of the day it doesnt matter it's £21 quid, other grounds round the country are more expensive and we have all paid it. Watch it on telly or go if you can! I know for a fact that people who do go will sing just as "loud" (i hope).

Im going and i know im going to get my money worth on way or another!!!

LOL, you were doing that anyway you melt!

Are you blowing out ANOTHER away day?
  • am i being discriminated against by a northern ethnic organisation because of my southern ethnic origins ?
  • [cite]Posted By: ltgtr[/cite]am i being discriminated against by a northern ethnic organisation because of my southern ethnic origins ?

No, because support of a football club is not restricted by ethnicity or location. Hence Man Utd fans who come from London and Charlton fans who live in Wimbldeon : - )

but surely by preston saying if your ethnic allegiance is to them they will charge you less than if you ethnic allegiance is to charlton they are making the distinction and therfore are discriminating against us ?
  • edited November 2007
They are discriminating but not on ethnicity, mearly on allegience.
  • The dictionary definition of 'Ethnic' is: relating to a human group with racial, religious or linguistic characteristics in common...

and surely the minute someone with a london accent walks up to the gate and tries to buy a cheaper priced ticket he will be turned away or charged more ?
  • some good comments from a couple of Preston fans, amongst others in the blog article
  • if the 'goodwill' gesture doesn't come from preston to extend the offer to us, can't our board reward the 300-400 cafc fans that travelled up there with a £10 off a home (guest) ticket or £10 shop voucher.
this wouldn't cost the club that much and would be good PR. also, put through some media channels it could embarass the preston board.

Interesting point. The use of the word 'or' suggests that as we have different linguistic characteristics that defines us as a separate ethnic group. If it were 'and' it would mean that we need all three different characteristics. We could claim 2 anyway as some would say that football is a religion and that we are from a diiferent branch of the same religion (like Catholics and Protestests). Therefore we could claim that this is 'ethnic discrimination'.

On the other hand, we could just forget about it, don't go, and watch it on TV. Some may even decide that professional football is sadly becoming a complete rip-off ,and even boycott the TV and do something else. When no-one's watching on TV we can go back to how it was before and the real fans will be happy again.
  • Assuming there has been no back down on Preston's part then?

I'm still toying with the idea of going up but without trying to sound like a plastic, Sky Sports is becoming more and more appealing.

Chelsea are on at same time though arent they?

  • I have an idea. When Preston come to us, ticket prices to them should be free or very low, ie a quid. Let their ticket office sort out the melee and chaos of large number trying to get a ticket...

Ben Hayes and Reg on the official site:

The decision by Preston North End to reduce ticket prices for home fans only when the club entertains Charlton on Saturday has been criticised by Addicks elected supporters' director Ben Hayes.

The Lancashire club, currently without a manager following the dismissal of Paul Simpson last week, has cut prices to just £10 adults and £5 concessions in some areas of the ground for the 5.20pm kick-off.

But visiting fans will pay the full price - and indeed those who pay on the day for the match, which is being shown live on Sky television, will incur an additional cost.

"Although Preston are acting within the rules, it seems a bit short sighted not to extend the reduction to Charlton fans as well,” said Hayes.

"I understand it's a special promotion that is supposed to make a better atmosphere at the match, but surely away supporters are vital to creating an atmosphere as well?”

While there is a general principle that home fans should pay the same amount for tickets as away supporters, under Football League rules clubs also have the ability to offer four special local promotions.

This enables clubs to reduce ticket prices for home fans only in a bid to gain a greater attendance.

As a result, Preston fans who want to sit behind one of the goals on Saturday will be charged just £10 adults and £5 concessions, with the Tom Finney Stand priced £12 and £6 respectively.

That compares to £21 adults, £15 over 60s and U18s and £9 U16s (U7s can gain entry free) for Charlton fans planning to make the long trip north who purchase their seats in advance.

And away supporters who buy from Deepdale on the day of the match will see the price increase further to £25 adults, £15 over 60s and U18s, and £12 U16s.

Hayes believes one of the possible consequences of the decision could be that Charlton fans try to gain cheaper admission and sit in home areas.

"An easy solution would be for Preston to reconsider,” said Ben.

"An equitable reduction for Charlton fans to the same level as home fans would not only avoid administrative and stewarding confusion, but would be a massive public relations victory for Preston and would just give more publicity to the offer.

"At present, the situation does no credit to Preston.”

Charlton chief executive Peter Varney is sympathetic to supporters' feelings, but admitted there was little the Addicks could do.

"I totally understand the emotive reaction of our supporters to this Saturday's match pricing,” he said.

"However, there is little we can do as Preston are acting within Football League rules.

"It is extremely disappointing that with the match being televised live with a 5.20pm kick-off and no trains back to London after the match, that Preston have chosen this game to charge our adult fans who buy a ticket on the day two and a half times what they will charge their own supporters.”

He added: "As a league, we should be doing everything we can to attract higher levels of away support as it adds to the atmosphere inside the grounds, and this type of inequitable pricing does nothing to encourage supporters to travel to away matches.”

Preston have backed down on prices before, take a look at the link at the bottom of the comments on the blog article. The "comparable area" is interesting:

  • Don't worry about that - who's the fella staggering along in the advert?!!!
  • Thats different though WSS, it looks like they where breaking the rules in that situation as it was an ongoing deal for members, rather than just four a game.

Yeah i realise that but hey, AFKA found it - blame him if it gives people unfounded hope!
