[cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]i do feel for those supporters ourt of the country but i think that it is something you have to live with if you choose to live abroad.

If i moved to the US or anywhere else for that matter i'd miss british tv, british food, british beer etc - but i certainly wouldnt expect the companies providing it to bend over backwards for me, especailly if i was in a ridiculous minority.

I know it sounds very "businessy" but in the end thats what football is and if it is not finacially viable for us to sign up to this service why should we?

I pay over the odds here for british food and the wife insists on me paying for UKTV.
As I said, I would be happy to pay BBC direct for international access so it is not me saying give me what I want at the detriment of the club. I just wish the directors would look outside the box like we are are all capable of doing, This is not just me, there are addicks all over the world
Although I live overseas, I was financial in the club, always spent a fortune. Grew up next to the club, helped clear it up when we heard we would be returning, spent 30 years following them through good and bad times, so I think my opinion is as valid as anyones on here

FFS, the BBC can't offer that coverage cause of the restrictive nature of the Football League rules on internet radio rights.
  • [cite]Posted By: suzisausage[/cite]I think we've all been spoilt by the coverage of football in the premiership.

    Bang on.
  • You pay over the odds for British food because someone is prepared to supply that to wherever you live.

Using this analogy, if you can't get someone to supply, as Rothko say, you issue is with possible suppliers.

Totally understand your frustration though, but this isn't down to the club, or, the FD.
  • if the football league are so tight Lee we can't "look outside of the box" because the football league have wrapped the whole bloody thing up in extra strong duck tape, put a padlock on it and thrown the key into the sea.
  • I don't come on here Rothko to get in arguments, That sort of crap is for the O/S tossers so I will leave it there.
and I did not know that the football league controlled the international internet rights
  • What did people do in the olden days when the only way to see the game was TO GO TO THE GAME!

didn't see many overseas addicks complaining on the internet then....erm...

anyway, we're all far too greedy.
  • But the issue is and was when it was put to the board Do we go with a 10 year deal that is a poor deal for 90% of the fans and offers no guarenteed income or a deal that puts a lump sum in the bank and gives a good and free service to 90% of fans.

You keep saying you would pay but you don't answer the question of are there 2000 overseas fans willing to pay? Here's a clue. There were only about 300 subscribers to Valley Vision and we had under overseas 2000 red card holders ie registered members last time I looked.

Also while thinking outside the box can you think about the fans in London and Kent. What justification are you giving them for taking away their free coverage?
  • [cite]Posted By: suzisausage[/cite]What did people do in the olden days when the only way to see the game was TO GO TO THE GAME!

They all waited in their Surrey villages for someone to telegraph them the results from Manchester United.

    What grace
  • So in answer to the question what does the Supporters' Director do.........
  • Sponsored links:

  • .....bugger all
  • Not a lot by the look of it .

A charlton female fan has posted on here about her car making a noise and you have n't offered to fix it or even buy her a new one . Disgrace

I think her employers, whoever they may be, should buy her a company car. Shame I have no influence over them : - )
  • [cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]So in answer to the question what does the Supporters' Director do.........

I didn't realise we still had a supporters director. Who is it - anyone on here?
  • isn't it some bloke with a Polish name? He was easily the best candidate last time round.
  • Do you mean Lech walenska?

    Good candidate, dodgy 'tash though!
  • I was thinking of General jaruzelski actually, a much better candidate and no dodgy tache.
  • An awful lot of Arse licking going on here.... Anyway, elsewhere as stated on the official site, the coverage on MW 774 Radio Kent was almost non existent due to the frequency and static which I can vouch for when I was trying to tune in from Sevenoaks prior to leaving for Australia...so much for a free service and this so called lump sum the club receives.

Ben I got your emails, and I see you couldnt resist jumping on here to broadcast that I had forwarded the copy onto the rest of the group....hypocrisy reigns eh?

Like I said before, its all based on tit for tat in your case, and reluctantly, as I mentioned in the blog section we have to accept we are in a minority, and our views wont be represented in any independent fashion by your goodself....thats blatantly obvious to anyone who takes the time to read your postings. Yes mate, youve got a thankless task, should have thought that one through before putting yourself up for election eh?

Any future correspondence on this matter, (should there be any) will be directed to the club...shant trouble you anymore, so you can relax and get on with your career. Have a nice life mate
  • [cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]So in answer to the question what does the Supporters' Director do.........

Gets lashed up with Simon Jordan?

On a serious note Lee I cannot understand how you cannot see the fiscal stupidity of alienating the majority of your fans (customers) for the benefit of a tiny minority.

We're not a PL side anymore and therefore the coverage is going to be pants. Is there seriously no online commentary anywhere?
  • So you going to write the Football league and ask why they restrict clubs on how they broadcast on the net?
  • Sponsored links:

  • Think that would be as fruitless as writing to the fans director. And no Dan there is no legal online commentary.

Ben I got your emails, and I see you couldnt resist jumping on here to broadcast that I had forwarded the copy onto the rest of the group....hypocrisy reigns eh?

Actually Lee Fender came on demanding a response that I had already given. Not sure where the hypocrisy lies. You did forward my e-mail to your mailing group without asking me.
    [cite]Posted By: Tel-in-Oz[/cite]

So I have to represent you views and agree with you and do what you suggest or otherwise I'm not doing my job. Despite it not making economic sense or being in the best interests of the club or the vast majority of it's fans.
[cite]Posted By: Tel-in-Oz[/cite]An awful lot of Arse licking going on here....

Someone agrees with me they are licking my arse. Good arguement.

Excuse me while I punch the air with glee. You've already had responses from the club which you have dismissed as they did not give you the response you wanted.

Lee wouldn't give an answer to Rothko's question and neither will you because you won't accept the solution you seek would be to the detriment of 90% of fans, poor quality coverage not withstanding which is something the club are aware of.
  • [cite]Posted By: Tel-in-Oz[/cite]thats blatantly obvious to anyone who takes the time to read your postings. Yes mate, youve got a thankless task, should have thought that one through before putting yourself up for election eh?

I read the posts and saw none of that. If you'd addressed Ben in a slightly more civil and adult fashion then perhaps he'd treated you differently.

You banging on, in public, about him not responding to any of your 6 emails, was a poorly veiled attempt to portray him as disinterested to anyone reading the blog. The fact that Ben has stated he didn't receive anything from the email address would probably explain why you didn't get a response.

But hey. Why let the truth get in the way of your attempts to publicly vent your frustration at someone who has made himself contactable and therefore is an all too easy target.
  • and...some of that tiny minority made up part of the majority when we had crowds of 3-5k. The point is that we would be happy to pay for internet rights, but a proper survey has not been carried out. Yeah sure Valley Vision wasnt a success, but how can you use that as a measure when we were an EPL side, with live internet coverage and live games being viewable on satellite TV...why would anybody pay under those circumstances?
  • Leave Henry alone.

Charlton is unique in terms of having a supporters representative on the board but the position is just that. A representative. Funnily enough the club don't sign over decision making rights to the supporter's director and it's not Henry's job to answer every single query anyone can throw at him.

Not sure of the details of what's going on in this instance but generally speaking some of what gets dished out to Henry is way out of line. I think we're lucky to have the position in the first place and luckier still to have someone in place who is intelligent, accessible and seems to take the role very seriously despite trying to juggle a family and career at the same time. I think a few fans need to take a reality check.
  • [cite]Posted By: Tel-in-Oz[/cite]and...some of that tiny minority made up part of the majority when we had crowds of 3-5k.

Shame all those years haven't really taught you how to be civil, eh?
  • [cite]Posted By: Tel-in-Oz[/cite]and...some of that tiny minority made up part of the majority when we had crowds of 3-5k.

So the club should alienate the NOW majority in recognition of what you did 15+ years ago?

This argument is getting dafter and dafter by the minute.

If Ben did ignore your emails I wouldn't really blame him to be fair
[cite]Posted By: Tel-in-Oz[/cite]The point is that we would be happy to pay for internet rights, but a proper survey has not been carried out.

Why dont you ask for a list of all card carrying overseas addicks and do some thing proactive like conducting your own survey then rather than blaming the club and Ben for disagreeing with your point of view?
[cite]Posted By: Tel-in-Oz[/cite]Yeah sure Valley Vision wasnt a success, but how can you use that as a measure when we were an EPL side, with live internet coverage and live games being viewable on satellite TV...why would anybody pay under those circumstances?

We were relegated a few short months ago and are looking to get promoted back this season. So 1) We've been here for just over 4months, its not like its been years of neglect is it? 2) What happens if we win promotion this year? Will you carry on using the service the club has forked out for or rely on the free services again? A point which Ben has made but neither you or Lee seem willing to address
  • They wouldnt have been public had he replied to the emails.....Im afraid its his word against mine, and yes he was disinterested up to the point it was made public. Its pretty obvious its a shambolic position, ironically whenever Ive contacted the club, most notably Steve Sutherland Ive always had a reply within days. Judge and Jury eh Dan?
  • Fancy answering any of mine or Dans questions, or you going to keep acting like a tosser?
  • [cite]Posted By: Tel-in-Oz[/cite]and...some of that tiny minority made up part of the majority when we had crowds of 3-5k. And I was in a crowd of 814 but that doesn't make my views any more worthy than some one who started coming last season. We are all fans.

Fair point on Valley vision but under 2000 overseas red card holders and remember 2000 was the estimate that Steve Sutherland made to break even on the deal. It didn't include the lose of the lump sum we get from BBC London.

As I've said Virgin Media are putting out highlights. Can these be accessed in OZ or Canada? Can digital radio be accessed over the internet. Are overseas addicks aware of the live updates on the OS?
