Fan's Director

edited September 2007 in General Charlton
Henry it would appear that the fans are having a pop at you on the O/S, along the lines of "what has he ever done for us? "
Come to think of it ?????? Can anyone answer that? :-)

Enhanced our lives by introducing us to the Religion of Gibbsism as exemplified by Guru Cory.
  • He's coming back to us on the bottled beer front ;-)
  • My thoughts are with his family.

Apart from his appalling taste in music and his ginger hair, I reckon he's alright. Don't tell him I said so though.
  • what a load of old bollocks on there tho.

i see nolly's missus putting her two pennorth in.
  • i just tried to read some of it. its a bit busy isn't it with all that text!
  • He's done nothing and he's going at the end of this season if not sooner.

Rarely read the O/S and won't be bothering to do so now. Having a shit week SD wise so they can all go forth and multiply

I will be feeling better at around 15.00 hours on Saturday or sooner if I can find a decent pub in Colchester. Dragoon anyone?
  • when will you be getting onto your 'Charlton over land and sea' blog on charltonlife henry and responding to the questions posted there?

Mate dont let them get to you. Those that know you (those that matter) know youre doing a good job, whilst trying to juggle your career as well, and get me more media work......

    Chin(s) up fella ;-)

Oh it's Lee "I don't support Charlton anymore" Fender.

I thought I had done that this morning but you know that cos Terry sent you my private e-mail. Nice of him to ask before he forwarded it to everyone on your mailing list.

  • No, its Lee I will not be supporting Charlton financially anymore Fender actually, which I won't be doing, on average spent about $1000-$1200 per year with the club, (not bad for an overseas supporter) and yes, I am still angry at the state of international coverage for the club.
Did I send the email you mentioned above or receive it? Well you answered that Ben didn't you.
So I ask again, will you be responding to the questions on your own blog? A genuine, non malicious question on my part.
  • I take that back Ben and apologies, I see you have posted a response and am reading it now
  • Is the question whether the club should spend a small fortune with little returns for a Premier TV deal? or should it stay with the BBC, with the larger coverage, and some money coming in?
  • FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT

Yes, that is the question. [:(]
  • "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT"

We really need one of our female members to jump in the middle and shout "leave it, he's not worth it!"

Yes, that is the question. [:(]

I'm just wondering if Lee would answer it, cause I think is attitude is, 'I don't care if it costs the club, I want commentary'

LOL - Dave, stop making me laugh. I'm trying to enjoy being a grumpy sod today.

And no one say "what do you mean "today"?

i do feel for those supporters ourt of the country but i think that it is something you have to live with if you choose to live abroad.

If i moved to the US or anywhere else for that matter i'd miss british tv, british food, british beer etc - but i certainly wouldnt expect the companies providing it to bend over backwards for me, especailly if i was in a ridiculous minority.

I know it sounds very "businessy" but in the end thats what football is and if it is not finacially viable for us to sign up to this service why should we?
  • no rothko, the question is would 2000 fans sign up for it at 40 quid a year if there was nothing else available like other clubs as not every supporter is in the BBC coverage area. That is what is required to break even.
Or even the option of me paying the BBC to have overseas access would be great.

Rothko's question still stands. 2000 to BREAK EVEN while all the London and Kent fans lose free coverage and the club lose the guarenteed fee they get from the BBC.
  • Are their 2000 people who would pay? Is it worth a 10 year contract with Premier TV?

Your gripe should be with the way the Football League manage their radio rights, not with the situation the club is in.
  • Our so called 'Non Entity' Fans Director will have the last laugh though when he is offered a full Board title at the end of his term & rewarded with a huge contract to boot. Just remember who your true friends are Ben ;-)

What, just for this season? If we get promoted this season, then next year we'll go back to the way things were. Let's not risk that just because you think you're entitled to deprive in London/ the south east of their free commentaries.

Don't worry, you can have a lift in the company Rolls when I pick it up ; - )

I pay over the odds here for british food and the wife insists on me paying for UKTV.
As I said, I would be happy to pay BBC direct for international access so it is not me saying give me what I want at the detriment of the club. I just wish the directors would look outside the box like we are are all capable of doing, This is not just me, there are addicks all over the world
Although I live overseas, I was financial in the club, always spent a fortune. Grew up next to the club, helped clear it up when we heard we would be returning, spent 30 years following them through good and bad times, so I think my opinion is as valid as anyones on here
  • I think we've all been spoilt by the coverage of football in the premiership.

I think we were too quick to "not be bothered" by being relegated too. Some of us said "it'll be more exciting" and probably forgot to look at the bigger picture.

I feel sorry for the overseas supporters not being able to listen to or see the games, but I do believe that if its costly to the detriment of the first team, then it shouldn't happen. I agree with what Ben has said in the blog. I hadn't read it all until today. The club's hands are tied i guess as if they pay the contract for however many years and we do get promoted the club will have a deal that no one will pay for and they'll make a loss surely?
