Ones of those days. Onto the next.3

Blimey that was a bit painful, and I don't mean the cold.0
-
I said it in the match thread, and I will say it again, today's no show by every single player bar Kaminski, looked like something has happened within the club during the International break...
I know about the absentees and the lack of Edwards and Bree, but that team we put out should have been capable of putting on a better performance than we were dished up, and from what I saw on the stream even Nathan looked subdued and not as articulate as usual...
No, today was wrong on so many levels...🤔6 -
First time I’ve ever left a game before half time. I genuinely believed they would get to double figures the way it was going and I couldn’t watch that . Just missed our goal . Serves me right I suppose .4

When we have a different manager we might play with wingers, but not with this one. A third of the season in and you still don't get it.RonnieMoore said:
Apter a winger not wing back .. should replace Campbell .. Costello a holding midfielder player not right back .. he played well second half in 343 system … Apter excellent player who will supply crosses and score goals but he got to play in his proper positionSOTF said:Repeating myself from the match thread, but I think NJ seriously miscalculated the game plan. Not sure if it was because of his history with them but we didn’t respect them anywhere near the same as Ipswich with our set up.
Someone more tactically astute can probably tell my why, but I’ve never seen Lloyd Jones pulled so far to the left and right to cover for Ramsay and Macca, who themselves were pulled out of position trying to cover for Apter and Hernandez who were too far up the pitch.
We massively missed Bree today, who just gets the press so much better than Apter and Ramsay and gives us so much balance.
Apter looks a complete waste of a signing if we have no intention of moving from 5-3-2. JRC not far behind in terms of effectiveness.
All in all, a dreadful day at the office and credit to Southampton, who were excellent value for the win. I’m grateful they slowed down and took their better players off as I’d have fancied them to score 7 or 8 today.
Not sure I’ll be jumping on the ‘we’re league one’ bandwagon. Missing 3 of our 5 backline hurt us today. Really, we’ve just got to try and end December outside with a gap between us and the relegation zone and get players back as quickly as possible. We’ve got a very tough run of fixtures on the horizon.5 -
Not going to stick the boot in. We've had some magnificent days over the last year. Thought Southampton were excellent today and we were a bit disjointed.
It happens, and Jonesy will get em going again.9 -
Because he is not and never will be a wingback in the Champ and should not have started.KingKinsella said:
Southampton seemed to come down our left with ease and through the middle. Maybe somebody might be able to explain why Apter was subbed, other than we needed to defend at all costs?Radostanradical said:So soooo bad, i know some will want to feel sorry for Apter claim he was scapegoated but he wasnt. The whole team was shocking today but during his 30mins he was terrible and looked scared at times.1 -
That's a fair old stretch Ron..RonnieMoore said:People need to remember only a few weeks back we did the same to Ipswich …
I actually said during the game today that some of Southamptons play was reminiscent of Ipswichs play in the first 25 mins at Portman road. It's just their execution in the latter stages of moves was a bit off.
None of our goals up there were anywhere near the technical levels we saw from Southampton today.3 -
You obviously didn’t watch the Ipswich game then.RonnieMoore said:People need to remember only a few weeks back we did the same to Ipswich …3 -
What position was she playing?fenaddick said:Even my partner knew we were crap and it was her third ever game of football5 -

We did have an option, after 22 minutes Costello helped to settle it down and should have started.cantersaddick said:Can't play 2 attacking wing backs at the same time that's for sure. I get we had no other options but can't be happening again. Bree back will help but have to find another solution.2 -
Disagree with 2 and 3Croydon said:Basically just highlighted what we all knew already (albeit in quite a drastic way)
1. Leaburn and TC not good enough to lead the line together
2. Gillesphey not championship level
3. Doc and Cov too slow as a pairing
4. Bell and Edwards are sorely missed2 -
Hard to take as it was so out of kilter. Southampton shredded us it is sad to say. We have to face the next challenge now because that shocker does not define us.1
-
Maybe, but only because NJ doesn’t understand how to use him effectively.ct_addick said:Apter is done…out on loan in Jan…gone in the summer3 -
He’s not just there for offsides though is he, which is more my point.KingKinsella said:
lino offside flags correct, and I sit in a good place to see inAC stand.Sword65pf said:
And the Lino curbs side was worse!!LargeAddick said:Not been mentioned much but by God that ref was shit. Every challenge by us a booking, missed easy decisions for a couple of corners and on first look maybe a couple of pens on Jones and Knibbs, especially the Jones one. No improvement on the standard in League One0 -
I agree.MarcusH26 said:
I'd love to see him in his natural position or used as a No10. Started the season well but now seems to be completely out of favour. Still hope he can turn it around.LargeAddick said:I'm hoping I am not the only one with sympathy for Rob Apter? He's been shoehorned into a position to which he isn't suited and in a way been shafted in the process by NJ. He's a winger in the same way TC is a winger. I'm a bit baffled as to why he was signed if NJ isn't going to utilize him properly. If NJ isn't prepared to play him further forward then he's going to end up being an expensive mistake. But that is in no way Rob Apter's fault.
He was let down by far more experienced colleagues today as we were woeful all over the pitch yet it's him that was the fall guy.
I, for one, really feel for the lad.1 -
Think you are looking for something that’s not there to be honest, more so a bad day at the office highlighted by the loss of important players. That wasn’t the CAFC of recent times. We will be back.eastterrace6168 said:I said it in the match thread, and I will say it again, today's no show by every single player bar Kaminski, looked like something has happened within the club during the International break...

If you are saying he is a one-trick pony then TBF in a team game he probably isn’t worth the effort of persevering with and we are not them team for him, or anyone else for that matter.jimmymelrose said:

They were superb for 20 minutes-absolutely outstandingSmithy said:Squad worth 20x ours, new manager bounce and a massive injury list so a defeat was always likely, but that performance is still completely unacceptable. They’ve scored 5 goals without even doing anything good.
Every performance since Ipswich has been poor and with Jones now seemingly injured we may be in for a very rough period. Still, in Jonesy we trust.6 -

Today’s result will not define our season. We were well beaten by a much better team who I’m sure will be top 6 come the end of the season. For me the worrying thing was to many of our players were exposed massively. Gillespie just does have the pace needed, Doc ditto and wants too many touches on the ball. Our strikers could play all day and not worry an average championship defender. I’m sure we won’t go down this season but we certainly need at least 5 decent signings to continue to improve7

Lloyd Jones (who I really rate) had a nightmare. Didn't know whether to get tight to Armstrong (who was superb) or drop off. Did neither.
Men against boys....and that includes the Management.
Hopefully everyone will learn and do something about it.6 -
Harsh to single him out. The defensive line is a collective effortSimonsen said:Lloyd Jones (who I really rate) had a nightmare. Didn't know whether to get tight to Armstrong (who was superb) or drop off. Did neither.

Hms piss the league takes a temporary diversion.

Kind of get what Simonsen is saying here, Lloyd wasn’t as decisive as he has been today. He looks like he is playing through injury again, really need to look after him he is so important to us. But he was also off it today along with everyone else, no exceptions in that IMO.cafcnick1992 said:

Agree, let’s not automatically forget all the good results and performances we’ve had after hopefully just the one disastrous day. We are just suffering a bit.AndyG said:Today’s result will not define our season. We were well beaten by a much better team who I’m sure will be top 6 come the end of the season. Luckily we have got an easy run of games to help us get over this8

I enjoy your posts but I couldn’t disagree more. Yes we were poor, but they completely out played us. The little triangle, first time ball into midfield, we couldn’t handle. They had the technical ability to do that, and fair play credit to them - best team I’m seen at The Valley in a 3* years.Garrymanilow said:
Because they weren’t that good. They killed us because we were absolutely terrible. I don’t think Saints got out of second gear once today, they just ran at us, played some pretty simple triangles, moved off the ball and dropped into space. Basic stuff that we made look like prime Brazil. They gave up after the 4th goal and weren’t even really trying when they scored the 5th. We played suicidally high at the back, Lloyd Jones kept getting suckered into stepping into the space and allowing the ball to be played in behind and the wingbacks may as well not have been there. Our midfielders chased shadows and we weren’t in it. Saints play like that against a proper team and they don’t get anywhere near that resultcafcsinger said:
How on earth can you say Southampton weren’t that good? Totally bizarre - they killed us and could have been 8 nil up first half. Second half they gave up and controlled the game.Garrymanilow said:Jesus Christ. Absolute crap, the worst thing is saints weren’t even very good, we were just that bad. Second half weirdly annoyed me more than the first because Saints didn’t even bother in the second half and we came out with no urgency, no real effort and after about 5 minutes of vaguely trying we just gave up. Pathetic. In the first half I quite liked JRC but he went to pieces as the second half went on. I can see why Jones doesn’t like him. Not fit enough and not aggressive enough. Tanto was terrible and showed just how well Miles did winning his battles. Hernandez was completely absent as a LWB but weirdly put some proper challenges in as right back, more than anyone else did. We will never see Rob Apter again. It was a mistake to start both Apter and Hernandez and I don’t know if Lloyd Jones was told to step up as much as he did or if he just lost his mind but it’s the worst we’ve looked under Jones at the back since the Terrel Thomas days. Really bad, never looked like fighting back for a bit of pride. Also I’m fucking freezing9 -
Blimey.......theres leaving early & then there's leaving even earlier. But before HT !Bedsaddick said:First time I’ve ever left a game before half time.
