The other benefit of having a box midfield against Wrexham is that they play with a midfield 3 and Windass behind Moore, in that second striker/number 10 role.

It’ll be Jones battling out with Moore, and it’ll be Coventry tracking Windass. Having another 3 in the middle of Docherty, Carey, and one other allows us to not be overrun and pick up enough in midfield to get the ball forward to hurt them.

It will also allow players like Ramsay and Gillesphey to step up and in as they’ll have the space to being outside centre backs. The moment they do and the Wrexham midfield step on, we have extra bodies either to bypass that press or get close to Leaburn (I can’t see Tanto starting, the aerial presence of Miles is enough to swing that decision) and win the second balls/knock downs from there.

Tactically it’s an interesting match up. One where I stand by if we can keep another clean sheet, we come back to London with all 3 points.

We also know NJ isn’t averse to the box midfield in big games, it worked so well against Birmingham last season that he stuck with it for too long

I know it shouldn’t be so important but I’m so desperate not to lose this. I think it speaks for how petty I am!

I wonder how fit Bree is after Tuesday, he struggled after that challenge so will be interesting to see what happens. I think with no natural left sided player though, Jones will be desperate for Bree to make it through and they can rest him up during the break.

I also have a weird feeling we might see Berry as well for this one. Carey starts all day long, just curious as to how it all comes together as Coventry will definitely play too and we are likely to have Doc in the team.

Would be harsh to leave Hernandez out as he done well considering he was playing out of position and as much as I don’t think he done a lot at all, I’d be surprised if Leaburn was on the bench with Tanto starting.

Fullah will almost certainly come on and I’m excited to see what he can do in an away environment, it’s different to coming on at The Valley with the whole crowd cheering you on.

Keep a clean sheet and we win the game. Concede and we draw 1-1.

If my sixth sense is correct, we could line up something along the lines of:

    Kaminski
    Ramsay Jones Gillesphey
    Bree Coventry Docherty Campbell
    Carey Berry
    Leaburn

That box midfield will help win the battle and second balls and players like Carey and Berry picking them up in advanced positions could cause issues. Naturally, that team would also heavily rely on TC. Let’s see what NJ does.
I like the look of that side with the box midfield. Tempted to rest Bree for Apter in that 11 so that we have a bit of threat on both wings as well as bite and numbers in midfield.
So you think we should have 3 defenders as Ronnie does, going for the 5-5 result?

TC as a wing back, please not.
This. With knobs on. Would be happy with a point but no reason why we can’t take all three.

I genuinely don't see what Wrexham have got to do with us. I could understand ill will towards Millwall, Palace, or even Bromley (although I have none at all myself), because they are competing for new fans in our catchment area, but I cannot see how Wrexham's doings affect us any more than, say, Doncaster or Plymouth do.

We are a good pressing side and they are a side that don't like being pressed. So I think a big factor is how well we do that. We are going to need to carry a threat too. Get those two things right and we don't lose this. There is a rest after this game so we can afford to give it everything.

Here’s a set of feasible results (~60/1) from this Saturday

    Cov beat Stoke
    Brum beat Boro
    Millwall and Preston draw
    Charlton beat Wrexham

If it comes off, Charlton would end the day in 3rd and only a point behind Stoke in 2nd.
    The reds are going up

Don’t see any reason why NJ would completely change formation yet, we are getting results.

Phil Parkinson was at the Valley on Tuesday.
I wonder if Nathan Jones was at Fratton Park on Wednesday.
I reckon managers sussing out the opposition live is a good thing to do.
We won’t present a surprise to Parkinson today, he will have a plan.

Interesting how some seem to be worried about Wrexham going forward and then questioning our forward line, they’ve only scored 3 goals more, they have conceded 8 more though. If stats are your thing, most definitely not mine they are bollox, however surely we look a good bet to win don’t we? If it’s all about stats of course.

Think it’s about taking 3 matches at a time I had us down for 3 points v Swansea WB and today so already up before today’s game .. next 3 Southampton home Stoke and Coventry away .. can only see draw and two loses … .. interesting chat with someone connected to the club on Thursday , said we were always looking to sign Kelman Knibbs and Apter even if we were in league one .. and if Kelman and Knibbs had been with us through the pre season tour you would have seen two completely different players and most likey Carey would not have been a starter .. funny how things work out .. he also said there been a couple of clubs starting to take notice of Coventry .. but he the only player the clubs are aware of that’s  getting interest

Interesting although I would be very surprised if some clubs aren't at least tracking Carey. Lloyd Jones too would be of interest to promotion pushing Championship sides looking to strengthen their defence.

The likes of Fullah, possibly Mbik, will certainly be on big club's scouting radar

Saw on the clubs X account it’s a triple birthday day - Curbs, Yann and Mbick. Can only mean we’ll win 3-0.

Really minor point on the preview and what I’ve seen elsewhere, Fullah’s Championship debut was away to QPR. Hopefully he gets more minutes today.

Nope back 5 just with slightly more attacking wing backs. 4 man box midfield means both Doc and Cov are able to drop in and cover them as they break. That width will help us get up the pitch and leaburns physical presence will keep the CBs occupied giving pockets of space for Berry and Carey to pick up the ball and have their signature chances from arriving late in the box.

I wouldn't take it too seriously he was probably talking to a steward.
  • Not to be too critical but the preview is filled with errors. Can the writer at least read over his/her work once as I think I can do a better job than that and I got hit on the head a lot as a child.

Exactly, that’s it for me. Huge respect for The Two Lads, perfect owners and I think Rob Mac especially understand the community role and value of a footie club. Respect for Parky, a good guy who had a baptism of fire with us. Respect too for their real fans, they’ve been through similar shit to us. But the media, especially The Athletic and  their pathetic US “ sacker” fans who click on every article and gob off about the “coach” and his unsuitability for the role now they are “big” …come away with a point today, and I’ll be on their cases tonight. .

They make sure we get three detailed previews a week. Well happy with that and any little errors it's always obvious what they mean.
