MATCH PREVIEW: Wrexham vs Charlton Athletic - Saturday 6th November 2025 - 3pm Kick-Off
Wrexham vs Charlton Athletic
Saturday 6th November 2025 - 3pm Kick-Off
Referee: Leigh Doughty
Introduction
The Train that is Charlton Athletic just keeps on barrelling ahead doesn't it, we even get to a phase of this early part of the season, and understandably question if we're running low on steam...? - Yet still the Ginger Genius still managed to find ways to engineer another victory until the lights at the Valley on Tuesday night. It could even be argued that life in the Championship is working out a bit too well for our expectations at present... I guess the best thing to do, is to re-visit a League One fixture!!
The Opposition
Name: Wrexham (14th) - Manager: Phil Parkinson
Ground: The Racecourse Ground:
Previous League Result: Portsmouth 0-0 Wrexham
So it means that this Saturday, we return to the scene of our most recent defeat in League One... Wrexham... We travelled to North Wales, just a few months ago, with the outside chance that we'd still be able to catch second place - However the script was always written, Wrexham buoyed by Wycombe's setback earlier in the day, knew that victory of their own would seal Championship Football for the 2024/25 season... and so happened, one of our most sided defeats in the whole of last season...
The Addicks would have to wait a little long to join the Red Dragons... But this Saturday is a chance of redemption for the visitors as they make a return to the Circus, and on paper, its the visitors who have adjusted to life better in the second tier - Wrexham on the other hand have started slower, but they themselves have started to pick up a bit of form, they've lost just twice at the Racecourse this season, and like the Addicks go into the weekend having lost just the one match in their last nine outings.
Of the individuals that we'll need to beware, and its Kieffer Moore that is the obvious name; Wrexham have always been attracted by big name Strikers; Paul Mullin, and Jay Rodriguez are historic examples of that, and the Welsh Striker (signed for £2m from Sheffield United) has followed in the footsteps of his predecessors, with seven goals so far this season, including a hat-trick last time out at the Racecourse, as Wrexham became the first (and only) side to defeat Coventry City so far this campaign.
We'll no doubt head to this corner of Wales full of optimism, but isn't a happy hunting ground, given our sole victory at the Racecourse came six meetings ago... In 1974.
Charlton Team News
Nathan Jones for starters will be looking to follow on what his boyhood club achieved, with Cardiff City recently winning 2-1 a League Cup tie in what has become a historic Welsh Derby match over many years now - His comments about the Hollywood circus will no doubt be fresh in the minds of the hosts. However the boot will be on the other foot this Saturday, as victory for either side will be less momentous than what it would have been back in April.
Of all the players travelling to North Wales, its Ibby Fullah's name that has Charlton fans excited; the latest Academy prospect had an impressive debut at this level on Tuesday night, and his involvement was a factor behind us getting all three points against West Bromwich Albion - Whether Jones feels its time to start the youngster is another question entirely, but worst case scenario will surely be looking to get some minutes from the bench.
Elsewhere and Charlie Kelman appears to have joined the ranks of the injured, with Keenan Gough another Academy graduate appearing on the bench on Tuesday. Once again though injuries are mounting, and with another (this time welcome) International Break on the horizon, we could see little rotation compared to the match against West Brom, with the coaching staff purely focused on getting beyond this weekend, so lighter training can possibly be considered for a few days.

Kieffer Moore v Lloyd Jones is the obvious battle but how we deal with Josh Windass could be just as important.
Win the second ball battle and I’m confident we can win the game though13 -
I didn't realise until I saw Wrexham's results, how much "form" they're in, they've drawn a lot (of their nine game run) they've only won two games at home, albeit that impressive win over Coventry) - Come away with three points and I'll be really impressed, get a draw and I'll be happy.
Similar case to Hull a few weeks ago, they score a lot, but they also concede a lot too, so if we get chances we could hurt them.6 -
Not sure if it's PTSD from April but this is only the 3rd game this season I'm going into it thinking we'll lose. We won the other two though (Sheffield United and Ipswich) so you never know10
-
Tough game, would be all over a point.4
-
It is annoying we’re playing them after they realised Coady is rubbish and Danny Ward got injured, I’d have been a lot more confident with those two on the pitch7
-
Excellent preview as always FA.
I watched the Pompey v Wrexham game last night and I don't think we have too much to fear if we play as well as we know we can.
Kieffer Moore will obviously be a danger but I'd put my money on Jones to come out on top of that battle.
Plus because our game was on Tuesday we will of had an extra day to recover.
Mind you I said the same last week and it made little difference.
I expect the confidence in the dressing room right now must be sky high and I expect us to nick a close game.
2 1 Charlton
Onwards and upwards3 -
Going for a 0-2 win and another three points...we have no reason to fear this lot...1

In the words of the immortal Kevin Keegan I paraphrase, "I would just love it if we fucking stuffed those puffed up sheep shagging pseudo Hollywood pricks, just love it!"
1-1 will be a good return i reckon.19 -
Think we will be fairly unchanged - would take a point, and expect us to come undone at Stoke.
Team I'd start:
Kaminski
Ramsay - Jones - Gillesphey
Bree - Coventry - Docherty - Hernandez
Carey
Olaofe - Campbell4 -
Intrigued to see what we do to shut Windass down (4 goals 3 assists in league so far). Most of Wrexham's decent play goes through him, and if we stop him, we've got a good chance of bringing points back.3

No idea why but I’ve got a bad feeling about this one. 2 - 04

Be shocked if Fullah starts, don’t think this is the game to stick him in for at all. Should be building him up with more minutes from the bench rather than throwing him into a difficult game too soon. I’m sure he will start games at some point but patience is requiredI’m sure it will be Hernandez at LWB, think he did a decent defensive job there which is what we will need against Kabore on their right. Let TC focus on attackingNot confident, but hopefully we can escape to the international break with a result13

I'm well up for this one. I'm not anti-Wrexham the club, or the Two Lads. I'm anti the media -coverage of them. The Athletic in particular is almost at self-parody level now. If Private Eye thought their readers were footie fans they'd have a regular column taking the piss.
A draw, especially if we look like the better side at final whistle will do me nicely, and I think we are capable of getting it. After April's understandably low-key performance it looks like NJ is especially keen to get a result this time. Pity we are missing Bell in particular, but I trust NJ to have a plan.

Very excited for this, first away game since Port Vale in Nov 2022 and ground number 85 out of the 92. The ticker moved up again with Brentford, Everton and Barnet at new grounds
Would take a point. I think they’ll be up for it and beating Coventry is no mean feat
come away with a point, intl break for the players to get some much needed recovery6 -
Another one that's hard to call (aint they all ?) I expect us to get a point at least, though any result would not be a surprise
Wrexham like us are well in form and player wise (again like us) are even stronger than last season
We will be physically stronger then we were at their place last season when we were bullied, bruised and beaten
Our midfield is stronger than last season
Our left side is suffering through injuries. Bell and Edwards are of course sorely missed
I hope that Nathan picks Fullah on the left from the start
I'd go for Olaofe (over Leaburn) and Kelman up front
Will need a strong referee as i m o it could get a wee bit fractious1 -
A point will do nicely, 1-1.3
-
Dobson hasn’t started the last two games. It will be interesting to see if he will start against us1
-
Nathan cuts and pastes his team in each week into the team-sheet almost like Groundhog Days our manager doesn’t like changes wearing his ultras black top & trousers and tapped up fingers and pumping his chest like a de-fib . I’d be surprised if the starting X1 aren’t just same as Tues night & start at SToK Racecourse ground. I would like to see TC as a sub for this one but otherwise stick with same starting line-up. I thought TC was superb at Ipswich as a super sub at tearing up the wing with a tired defence up at Portman rd.What is so refreshing is the quality of our subs bench this season, who our own welsh dragon has fired up so they slot in & roar onto the pitch from 60 mins. Nathan will be pumping his chest and stoking up our boys to wipe the smile of those Hollywood poseurs…here’s hoping ! COYA’s3
-
Just looking at last years game against them and the bench is absolutely dreadful. Bouzanis, A.Mitchell, Mcintyre, Gilbert, Hylton, Mbick and Kanu. Just shows how well we've recruited in the summer to have 4 big injuries in the starting XI and still have an available bench miles better than that8

If we play well we get at least a point, last season has no relevance to now, we are much better and to be fair they would probably say the same.0

0-3, continuing the rut we are in (past two games have been mostly a tough watch) and they have a little run going, not including the Cardiff result.4

So they have a little run going , but we have been a hard watch?, do we not have a run going? Some might say a good one aswell.swords_alive said:0-3, continuing the rut we are in (past two games have been mostly a tough watch) and they have a little run going, not including the Cardiff result.5 -
I have to confess that this the 10th game this season I'm thinking we'll lose! Not PTSD - just lack of faith and belief in what Jones and the team are capable of. I'm getting there though.....CoveredEnd1905 said:Not sure if it's PTSD from April but this is only the 3rd game this season I'm going into it thinking we'll lose.
