Wow. During the first half I was expecting a battering, not one of the best away performances I've been at!
All 3 relegated sides lost tonight, it's quite refreshing that they're not running away with it. And if I was an Ipswich fan I'd be questioning Mckenna making 7 changes tonight, and indeed their transfer business this summer, as up front their finishing was awful, while their CBs looked rocky despite their fat fees.
In the first half Ipswich were way better thsn us, yet we managed to create just as many good chances. In the second half we clearly were more aggressive, but the key incident was the Carey goal. Brilliantly taken, it changed the mood on the pitch. We got more confident, they got more nervous, we got a second and they were really under the cosh.
And unlike on Saturday the predictable 60 minute subs made a massive positive impact from the start. TC was excellent, while Miles was unplayable. So pleased he got his goal.

It’s all been said already but here’s my take. It’s hard to single out anyone after that performance as they were all magnificent. Kaminski was solid throughout and pulled off a couple of smart, crucial saves. The back five were solid and resolute but that tackle from Ramsay, oh my word. The midfield were tenacious and worked their socks off and the Ginger Genius showed what a player he is and two footed to boot. The front two worked well together, Tanto should really have scored, Kelman only denied by a good save. The replacement front two were outstanding. Leaburn put in a real forwards performance and TC showed that maybe, for the moment, he may be better coming on off the bench against tiring defenders.
Mention too for the ref, thought he was very good (as he was the two times we had him last season). Also, as bad as the Sky camera work was, at least Aaron McLean as the pundit knew what he was talking about, knew what NJ is trying to achieve with the way we set up and was very complimentary about us.
Finally, some times it isn’t pretty but at least we have a team that is united, 100% committed and have thoroughly bought into what NJ wants. It’s no wonder he’s brought in players like Bree and Bell, and before that Berry, who know what he wants and what he demands of them every day. And I’m not bothered if it isn’t pretty, and not bothered if other teams fans think we are poor or boring, because for the first time in ages we don’t have a team full of pussies who’d roll over at the first sign of trouble and let the opposition tickle their tummies. I was pretty sure before tonight but now I’m utterly convinced that, finally, we have OUR Charlton back. COYA.

Yeah 🤣mascot88 said:Awkward? Like a cricket bat through your lounge window awkward?
they described us as an awkward side to play pre match, turns out the only awkward thing was their sense of entitlement 🤷🏻♂️4 -
I volunteer to be in Malibu for the rest of the season.15

Been saying for ages that Kelman-Olaofe and Leaburn-TC should be our 2 pairings. So good to see it working well. Hope we keep it that way around from now on14

Such a deep squad, Edwards and Godden out, JCR barely played, ditto Berry, Hernandez hasnt been needed yet, Knibbs can't displace Carey, Apter who had a great start can't even get on the pitch, Anderson cant get on the bench, hope Jones is keeping then all happy, but its so great to see such competiton for places23

Home around 1am but needed to see what views had been posted by Lifers as too wired to make it to bed for a while.
But gave up pretty quickly as wanted to add my meagre but heartfelt comments....
Tonight was UNBELIEVABLE !!!! The true meaning of a game of 2 halves ! Anxiety the over riding feeling in the 1st half quickly morphed into overwhelming joy & disbelief but with huge pride at what our fantastic lads were producing following the usual encouraging hugs from the gaffer at half time
Forget Wembley ( well , for the time being) - the atmosphere in the packed away end was electric.
I have no more words at this hour except to repeat what I heard fans around us muttering , with dazed looks on their faces as 1-0, became 2-0 & then 3-0...." Think I must be dreaming !" What a performance we were privileged to witness.
And finally, my message to the exultant team & their very special manager this early morning....
"Thank you ! You've made an old Fanny SO happy !!"30 -
The last time we played there was a 6-0 defeat with a centre back pairing of Hector and Inniss.Well and truly buried that nightmare tonight.13

Bloody hell Sage, you have such a way with words, I got emotional reading that!Sage said:Tonight only enhances that these players under the guidance and leadership of Jones can be whatever they want to be.
It’s a result that right now I feel quite confident that we’ll look back on and say that was it, that was the moment we went to a new level.
We’ve had an unbelievable 10 months, and I say 10 months because it’s exactly that to the date since we won 5-0 away at Northampton. 21st December 2024 - 21st October 2025. And it was that game and result last season which was the moment where we clicked and went on that run to win promotion. Many will point to the Crawley game, that was the lowest point, but this is the one where it came together.Tonight, this is the game where the squad will really, really believe everything Jones tells them. You can be whatever you want to be, just follow me and I’ll take you there.
To a man, they were genuinely outstanding. I am so proud.
After all the crap we’ve been through over the years, the turnaround this club has made has been phenomenal. We deserve this, we really do.2 -
Woke up for the 2nd half at 330am and was pleased to see the 0-0 scoreline.
What transpired 2nd half was quite incredible, and a neutral would have thought we were the ex prem team last season.
I can't add what most of you all have already said, I'm just feeling so proud, so proud.
We most definitely have our Charlton back.
UTA!!
Oh one thing more, The Tanto Kelman starting combo works better I reckon, as too pairing Leaburn and TC. For me it makes sense that Miles and TC pair up, they know each other's game inside out. It also balances out the substitutions in the game, TC giving the opposition even more to worry about when he comes on.7 -
Believe this will be looked back on as one of the most famous wins in our recent history. It’s just simple fantastic

The last time Ipswich lost by three or more goals at Portman Road at this level was in April 2018, to Aston Villa.14

Great result! And chuffed for the fans that attended however being the usual negative fan I am this just means 3 points closer to the magic 44 which will ensure championship football for next season, my pre season hopes were get to a safe number and then anything past that is a bonus and do them bastards away at the den. And I’ll be over the moon.3

A result and second half performance to savour .
Unbelievable , I’d be bankrupt if i was still gambling , I’d even lay us winning now after the result ….Ipswich making that many changes is a pisstake and they got what they deserve for not showing us respect .
I’m not greedy at this level safety will do .
I don’t think the standard is as high as I expected .
Love Sonny , a player with balls not afraid to have a dig … first one worth a wank since Dale Stephens .
Even the table looks ok now29 -
Unbelievable result, looked like scoring every time they went forward second half!0

TC coming on against tired legs is the way to go, scared the shit out of them13

Incredible result to wake up to earlier! Overjoyed for all the fans there, nothing like a big win on a midweek away trip.5

Looking on their twitter, most of their fans are doing exactly that. Quite a few of their fans also think it won't be long before he's sacked if they don't win soon.killerandflash said:Wow. During the first half I was expecting a battering, not one of the best away performances I've been at!

Honestly don't think i've seen a Charlton side defend so well (in general, not just last night) since the Premier league days. It feels like almost every game the opposition fans are giving us credit for how well organised we are, how well we defend, how we put bodies on the line.
What a team.8 -
Although he hasn’t scored yet, I hope the game highlighted how good a job Kelman is doing. We had even less of the ball than we usually do in the first half and he had very little service, but he kept working and showed early in the second half he is a handful for his defenders.Forwards are ultimately judged on goals, I’m not debating that, but hopefully people would’ve seen after the game that we really are winning games and getting results as a TEAM, and what Kelman does is absolutely vital to that. His one shot on target was bloody good as well and unlucky not to go in.Ipswich are the complete opposite to us. They have a squad of brilliant individual players, but they have no fight and aren’t savvy or hard enough as a team. They have enough individual talent to win games and in the first half the footballing Gods were on our side, as if they had got their noses in front it may have been a very different story, but their foundations are weak and that was drastically exposed in the second half. For me, last night epitomized that it’s what the starting XI deliver as a unit that get us our results. As others have said, and I truly believe, this is the best we’ve had it since the end of the Curbs era in 2006. This team, this management, is working and behaving in the same way that Curbs and the sides of the late 90s/early noughties did. It’s stable, it’s a unit and above all, it’s great to see.23

What a night to be a Charlton fan, that result will have every fan in Championship sitting up now!
A real statement performance by Jones and the players. Alot of fans me included had posted about Tanto & Kelman to start & they did well and were both unluckily not to score. TC & Leaburn set your watches on 60mins subs, Wow masterstroke by Jones, TC was simply ripping up the wings and Leaburn unplayable. What an absolute pleasure the 2nd half was to watch.
Huge shout out to Addicks away support that's all we heard watching at home, and wonderful to see the joyful celebrations at the end.
SKY's pundit Aaron Mclean was also top notch, very insightful and read the game really well & gave intelligent comments. Good ref and thank goodness for no VAR, i hate it and so what if not every inch of an offside or ball over the line is seen by the ref, its open to human error, thats football! Of course it went our way last night with 3rd goal , but i want to watch freeflowing football and celebrate to the refs whistle not from a remote ref down the M4.
Nathan Jones is he finally the manager to take us further, like Lennie and Curbs?.... trying to stay calm but after last night its difficult...COYA's.15 -
Also shows what an unpredictable league the championship is 2-1 against you would imagine a relegated side come end of the season on Saturday then go and dick a ex pl side 3-0 away, another away game Saturday so hopefully keep on pushing!0

Apologies for the religious reference, but I’m sure our manager would approve.Weegie Addick said:Don’t know where to start on that really. Had vibes of Black Sabbath at Highbury when 3-0 up and thinking we might get a draw because of that opening 15-20 when we were seriously under the cosh. The clock also seemed to be ticking v slowly. But as Leaburn and TC hit their stride (they play so well together) and Kayne turned back into a confident immovable force we just got better and better.Delighted for the travelling Addicks while also being madly jealous as I wasn’t there. Tried to sync up Tel and Browny to the Sky pictures but our dodgy rural WiFi signal kept buffering so gave up and suffered the Sky commentary. By the end they had us down as world beaters. Didn’t someone on pre-match thread predict 0-3 and everyone starts to take notice? Who was that?Just a word of caution (sorry, I can go a bit Oohaah at times): back in 2019 we had 21 points after 12 matches. We’d need to beat Hull to match that. Then it all went pear-shaped with Gallagher going, Covid, the 🐍 etc. So a long way to go yet.In the meantime let’s enjoy the ride whatever happens!
The difference is that this house is built on rock. That one was built on sand. There’s every chance we’re not going to finish 5th, but this wonderful squad and outstanding manager are not letting us sink like last time.1 -
I didn’t celebrate immediately as I was just waiting for the lino’s flag. I was stunned it didn’t go up. About time one of those went our way though.soapy_jones said:6 -
Marvellous, I think we gave them a little too much respect early doors but after the Carey chance we seemed to realise that their back line was pony. Second half was as good as the Wycombe league game away, just waiting for another chance to go in.0

To be fair, we stunned everyone else with this result...InspectorSands said:
