Best result I have seen in a long long time.
I was at the far end of the away end right next to the Ipswich fans. Some old bloke seemed to have a major problem with Sonny Carey and was giving him grief for 52 minutes (I guess this guy knew he was a youngster at Norwich?), until which he promptly sat down and shut up for the rest of the match.11 -
Glad Leaburn got off the mark in the league. Lots of unnecessary comments have been made against him so far this season. Yes i agree needs to add a bit more threat to his game but some comments border on the ridiculous.13

NJ in the interview with Louis: "There was an Ipswich fan calling us boring at half-time. I went looking for him after. He made a real sharp exit. Cheeky f----"59

Well hands up, I never saw that coming. That was the reverse of the Sheffield Wednesday game. This time we were under the cosh first half, second we so out played them they were surprised by the sudden stepping up of the tempo. Well done NJ a master plan.

I had an experience very different to other Charlton fans tonight, sitting with my wife and three children in The West Stand at completely the opposite corner to other Charlton fans.
Before the match Ipswich fans were predicting a 3 or 4 goal win for their team which made me chuckle silently with my 2nd son who's clued up about football and Charlton.
My eldest son (who really doesn't understand football), just like at the play off final concentrated on the match, claiming that he can exert positive energy on the Charlton team, and I'm beginning to believe him. Before the match I said 'if we score a goal' and he replied 'not 'if' because we'll get three.' ( I'm not joking with you all here).
My wife was at her first Charlton match in 20 years, in The Premier League, and was just happy that the Ipswich fans sang a Cranberries song.
My daughter was at only her second match, having only seen us lose 1-0 at Wycombe before. She spent most of the match asking me inane questions that you'd expect from a ten year old who knows nothing about football (she's just come to give me a goodnight kiss as I'm writing this btw).
Anyway, so it was odd to be in this situation, but the first half played out as expected - we defended resolutely and the Ipswich fans were a bit bewildered judging by conversations I heard in the toilets (bloody hell, I was busting after a pint of cider, a McDonald's coke and a bottle of Dr Pepper).
In the second half I just couldn't believe my eyes. My eldest son (who knows nothing about football) said that Kelman wasn't playing as he was trying to influence him to play, lol) and so I had to explain that he was greatly to thank for the goal we had just scored.
My second boy was beginning to state too loudly how Ipswich were getting outplayed. I was really struggling to not cheer us on - wow, we pissed over them for a period. I accidentally said out loud 'Ipswich are literally chasing shadows here' - I was in a state of disbelief. Then when Leaburn scored I thought I was back in the late eighties - it was like he was there with Morts and Mickey Bennett back again - it was actually exciting attacking football. I actually said aloud 'what is going on here?' which was ok because the other fans around me were thinking the same.
Kayne Ramsay's tackle was down our end. A few Ipswich fans called for a penalty but not many. I've raved about Ramsay to my second son and he couldn't believe how that he could have won that ball - it was like we'd witnessed the impossible.
Sonny Carey is just simply brilliant - when he was substituted I just wanted to join in with his song although, with my wife there for once, it was probably for the best that I couldn't ;-
At the end after thwarting their attack yet again Docherty punched his fist at the Ipswich fans and they barely had the will to shout back.
What a performance. Jones really knows how to set up a team away from home. Leaburn had the best match I've ever seen from him, Docherty looks happier in The Championship than in League One, Sonny Carey is becoming my favourite attacking player for a long long time, Jones was so so solid but to single anyone from that defense and midfield out seems unfair - as a whole we were immense.
Brilliant all round team display. Extraordinary. I'm still in shock - did that really happen?

Sonny Carey best signing we have made in years. Whoever scouted him is a genius12

Apologies @Gribbo, I thought I'd seen that on the preview thread, not the Match thread. Have amended the post accordingly.Gribbo said:

Loved that, but found it also the most stressful game to watch in a long, long while - guess it's the most under pressure we have been in ages, probably since the 6-0 at Ipswich in 2023 - but that was a non-game for us if I recall.
Of course it could have gone the other way, but we defended our box exceptionally well and got a few breaks. But we also forced lots of good chances and for all their possession and skilful play in attack, their finishing was average and their defending was awful, while ours was anything but. The CB tracking Carey for the first just backed off and off, O'Shea I think - didn't know which way to show him. Probably because (and I only properly realised this against Sheff Weds on Saturday) Carey can smack it with either foot, and doesn't need much invitation - real weapon that!
Reading their main forum it's interesting that many are giving us credit for how hard we worked and how the pressure on their defence only ratcheted up after the 60 min subs. They had 'better', more expensive footballers; ours were playing for their places, their team mates, the system, the shirt and their manager. A sense that being in the Prem has done them no favours there.
Not every game will break for us like tonight, but we need to remember what we have again, and cherish it. I still distinctly remember a moment towards the end of our Prem days when I looked at who was on the pitch (post Kinsella, Robinson, Powell, Jones, Kieley etc) and felt we had lost our soul. After a brief glimpse under Bowyer, I'm beginning to feel maybe we have our DNA back.

Ha ha. I heard one of their fans behind us say 'why can't we defend like that?'Dippenhall said:Ipswich starting back line cost £35m.4 -
Well that was “awkward” for Ipswich 😆3

What I said earlier @Sage but far more succinct. You're spot on. Tonight was a marker, let's see what comes next.Sage said:Tonight only enhances that these players under the guidance and leadership of Jones can be whatever they want to be.
It’s a result that right now I feel quite confident that we’ll look back on and say that was it, that was the moment we went to a new level.
We’ve had an unbelievable 10 months, and I say 10 months because it’s exactly that to the date since we won 5-0 away at Northampton. 21st December 2024 - 21st October 2025. And it was that game and result last season which was the moment where we clicked and went on that run to win promotion. Many will point to the Crawley game, that was the lowest point, but this is the one where it came together.Tonight, this is the game where the squad will really, really believe everything Jones tells them. You can be whatever you want to be, just follow me and I’ll take you there.
To a man, they were genuinely outstanding. I am so proud.
After all the crap we’ve been through over the years, the turnaround this club has made has been phenomenal. We deserve this, we really do.

Don’t worry, when we eat out tomorrow night I’ve told our Dad he’s having humble pie and custard for his pudding. At least I know where you get it from 🤔golfaddick said:Will post more once I've finished off that big humble pie I baked earlier 🥧.3 -

Ref getting a 4 in the ratings is mad. Best ref we've had this season and the best we had in years last season.10

I was saying at HT that we didn’t have enough up front to scare them. So they kept coming back at us in waves. What a difference in the 2nd half. Tyreece scared the crap out of them. They were reeling! What a 2nd half performance.2

Not long got back from the game that was fucking incredible something special is happening here9

Couldn't agree more mate well said..Ormiston_Addick said:Amazing result and massive credit has to go the new ownership team at the club as well as Nathan Jones, his staff and the players.
The owners have got it spot on, unlike the Danish guitar merchant and the bungling Belgian, they have kept their own counsel and haven't gone out and made stupid statements.
Instead, they have put the money into the squad that was desperately needed and backed Nathan Jones even when we were really struggling last year - and now the rewards are coming.
This is what owners are supposed to do, put the money in, stay out of the limelight and leave the football to the football people.
They deserve massive appreciation for what they have done for our club after nearly twenty years of pain and embarrassment.3 -

When are we playing Pompey?
They will be bricking it 💩10 -
We must be the most in-form team in the country, for the whole of 2025 so far? Based on points taken, clean sheets etc.0

Just got in from the game, underestimate us at your peril, 1st half sat off a bit but my god what the hell did NJ say half time?, we were more than awkward😂 what a night to remember my 10year olds 1st night away league game and we were going mental,Absolutely buzzing with that!!!COYR15

What a bitter couple of fans they are. The first five minutes of this says all you need to know about 90% of our opposition this season.Chippycafc said:
We are massively underrated and overlooked and I think that's the way I like it. Seven changes to a side showed a blatant disregard for us and they got schooled.
How many managers will be under pressure when they lose to little old Charlton this season?
I love our club so much.12 -
I had just finished watching this before reading post match thread. 3:42 in…”this is a Charlton team that struggled to get in the playoffs last season”.Chippycafc said:A comment made through bitterness or more fans being in the PL bubble last year and not knowing anything about league football.11 -
I know we aren’t much a of glamour tie but my god Ipswich fans were awful, the only time I heard them was when they was giving stick to Hernandez at HT.4

Just in. Don't get away much these days but me and my youngest were there.
Pretty unbelievable night really.
Just had a feeling we'd come away with something but wasn't expecting that 10-15 mins of complete madness.
We struggled to get to grips with them in the first half. As expected, Jack Clarke was an absolute pain in the arris, as he was in the pre season friendly. Kayne was really struggling to get the measure of him. Ashley Young was outstanding for an old fella. Tanto had a great chance to put us one up but his miss really didn't concern me. I think it would've been too early. They would have thrown the sink at us as well has having the half time break for McKenna to get at them, I think we would've struggled to hang on.
The half time team talk must've been a good 'un.
Bree teamed up with Ramsey to stem the Clarke flow and
Carey went from quite passive to f****g aggressive and Ipswich looked stunned when he took it to them for the first goal.
Kelman, who I thought had a good game launched an absolute rocket which I'd like to see back. He really gave that everything and the second goal came from the resulting corner.
The third was Dreamland and I think most in our stand were pretty shocked..either that or they thought the linesman would disallow it!
Any road.Jones played an absolute blinder. A free hit against a side expected to turn us over is right up his street and he proved it again.
My son's premonition on the way home, our 30 year wait to beat the scum up the road will be at Wembley on 23rd May!!
We can dream son16 -

This is calendar-year form, not a single league season. For promoted teams (e.g., Birmingham, Burnley, Leeds, Charlton), I added their points from both divisions and divided by the combined games to get one 2025 PPG. On this basis, Charlton sit ~5th/6th overall at 2.00 PPG —
Supposed be doing some work, but am easily distracted tonight for some reason... !14 -
