Happy with mid table this season - Ipswich exposed our limitations early on but thankfully didn't score. To win 3-0 after the early pressure we were under seems unbelievable.
We don't have the best squad but NJ has got us organised and built a real team spirit. No big egos in our squad and they know how to battle.
We will p*** off a lot of teams with our style of play - a good time to be a Charlton fan at the moment. Delighted with the start to this season....4 -
Goes right back to the Curbs old days when you sign players who are hungry or angry or both. Find the ones who genuinely have a point to prove. And have the technical ability, of course.AndyG said:I hate to actually mention it but we seem to have a real team on our hands !! When you look at players like Ramsey, Carey, Jones to name but 3 how the fuck were they not playing higher when we signed them ?
hull will be another big test but we should fear nobody. Starting Kelman with Tanto is the way ahead imo then let TC and Miles run at tired defenders10 -
Yep, they've been singing it for decades.ForeverAddickted said:

nothing to add on the game/ performances etc
so only 3 things
1) brought a Chelsea supporting mate along as he lives 20 mins from Ipswich. He loved it, was well impressed on all fronts and if he never comes to a game again seeing him sing repeatedly and with genuine glee “you’ve seen the Charlton now fuck off home!” is a memory I’ll cherish - so good to be oozing with pride again at the minute after all these humiliating years
2) I wish our fans could master Twist n Shout. It’s a tough one to do but if everyone could nail it it would sound class on repeat and would be pretty much the only chant we’ve ever had that’s not lifted from another club!!
3) Portman Road is a great away day - topped off by a superb screen Ipswich have managed to shoehorn into a tiny space in their historic stadium!!! 🤣1 -
I think the referee helped. Let the game flow, got most decisions right. The Campbell cross (over the line) was almost impossible to spot in real time. No silly cards. And the fact that not many have mentioned the referee (unlike most games) means he had a good game. Pity they aren't all as good as him.12

He’s clearly been holding back to make sure that the first one he scores is a contender for goal of the season.Arthur_Trudgill said:Kelman's rocket from outside the box, bloody hell!
Next time that goes in, and the floodgates will finally open.
Score, Charlie score, once you get one you’ll get more….5 -
Feeling quite smug about my pre match comment about TC having Leaburn’s height to aim for in the box. They just seem a much more natural combination than TC and Kelman, hardly surprising when you consider how long they’ve played together too1

Nearly a quarter of the way through the season and above all 3 sides that came down from the Premier League. Which is nice.4
-
3-0 is just ridiculous. But this reminds me of the old Curbs style of play, where the defence is the most important thing and we hope to be able to nick a goal.Nathan Jones has played an absolute blinder here. Our defence is so good, possibly the one of the best in the league.
As I tell my missus, it's not what you have, it's what you do with it that matters.7 -
Its one of the vagaries and idiosyncrasies of football, Nigel Winterburn got a move from Wimbledon to Arsenal and had an unbelievable top flight career, winning the league title three times.Weegie Addick said:

Chris Powell gets released by Palace, resurrects himself at Southend and then has a really good career at Derby and ourselves, without ever getting a sniff of a big club. Was Winterburn a better player than CP? I honestly don't think so, just got a great move and it worked out for him.
Look at Ryan Nelson the NZ player at Blackburn a few years ago, spent years in footballing backwaters, found himself at Blackburn and was one of the best CBs in the PL for a couple of seasons!! How many other players just never get that break?2 -
I don't know what to make of this. I just wish I was also at the game.
The number 1 priority is still to just stay in this division - but we are currently doing a great job.
The higher we finish in the table - the more money we make, more of us fans turn up and easier it is for us to recruit.
If we are mid table in febuary, then we can perhaps increase expectations of where we finish.

Morning!! So been to Sainsbury’s and got some ginger hair dye, my boy is humming the sonny song, not sure how to explain if he starts singing it, Don’t know where my wife is though!🧐, But I don’t care cos I’ve got ginger hair toooo!!!!19

Not sure if it’s already been mentioned, but we often cry out for consistent officials. Well that Lino was consistent with the TC in or out, because he let an Ipswich one go too, in the first half in more or less the same place.7

Great Win, only saw the score at 10.30 so well pleased. What is it with Sky highlights, I understand that we also had a few more chances apart from the goals. Watching the highlights it looked like all Ipswich, especially the first half.1
-
Looking at our second goal on the highlights, I noticed that it was Tanto who got a great flick on Sonny's low cross that hit the keeper and bounced up for Macca to score. A great touch and so close to scoring himself.CAFCBourne said:

Years of torture does that to you.
1st Goal Kelman does a great job dragging the covering defender away when realises his pals in trouble it too late to get back to cover.
2nd Tanto is fuming whilst everyone's celebrating feels he should've done better.
Great attitude from the players squad as whole play for one another its a joy to watch.
Ipswich were a very good side cracking result.2 -
7 team changes by Ipswich……took the piss big time.
Didn’t show respect and the pay back was immensely satisfying to witness.👊

fair enough, we can at least claim to have copied it from Dillon Phillips rather than them with this one though9goalswentpastperry said:

Not sure how Ipswich had higher xG than us, given Olaofe and Gillesphey's chances were more clear-cut than anything they created. I'm guessing it's just an accumulation of 25+ long shots.2

An NJ masterclass. First half was painful to watch but it worked in restricting them to half chances. Second half made it all worthwhile. Well done all, particularly Sonny Carey and Lloyd Jones - what players.2

I’m done with trying to second guess this Charlton team. I thought Ipswich at home would have too much for us last night and after the first 35 minutes I was expecting a 3 - 0 but not a 0 - 3. Yes we rode our luck but we grafted and never dropped our heads when we could have actually been 3 - 0 down. Perhaps the real difference between us and them was that although we’re not all conquering we’re not fragile and I think Ipswich showed last night second half that they are brittle. They collapsed. Jones has built a group that are a proper team. No egos, no slackers and battlers to a man. Will that be enough to get us into playoff contention ? I still don’t think so but I said the same last season. What I do know is that any team we play will have to be on their game to beat us. First season back and that’s all we can ask for. Away support magnificent .24

I was only half-joking last night when I mentioned the cock-eyed goal frame. It's easy to see how if the Lino was looking straight across the line that could influence his perspective.jose said:Not sure if it’s already been mentioned, but we often cry out for consistent officials. If someone had said at half time we'd be singing 'we want 4' I'd have had them taken away in a white van by some kind people.
I spent half time looking at the clock willing it to start ticking towards the 90 minute mark........... but boy am I glad it didn't!
All our guys were immense throughout the 90 but it absolutely felt like a game of 2 halves and although I live local in Suffolk I couldn't get to sleep until 2 o'clock gone.
Coming over to us after the game, with his song being belted out, the ginger genius was absolutely beaming........ and deservedly so too! They all deserved the reception they got, each flipping one of them!
I'm still smiling!
We still want 4......... Hull 0 London 4....... COYR!!8 -
Based on last night, I think we sold Inniss and Hector to IpswichCallumcafc said:The last time we played there was a 6-0 defeat with a centre back pairing of Hector and Inniss.Well and truly buried that nightmare tonight.11 -
Combative, energetic, determined, ruthless - and no lack of skill. Not a single weakness in that performance and, if they didn't know already, the rest of this weaker than I expected division will take note. Do not underestimate plucky little Charlton. But the man, woman, child of the match goes to the away support. Absolutely awesome - take a bow.9
-
I think there are 2 things going on 1) How we collapsed 5 years ago due to a threadbare squad 2) the amount of money sloshing about in the championship making players seem better than they are in comparison to our players. Both are making people think the championship is some sort of super league when it isn't. I bet the top 10 in League 1 would compete quite comfortably with the bottom 10 of the championship. Get yourself a good manager, decent players, get organised in a style that suits your players and anything is possible as the likes of Luton and Sheffield Utd have shown. It's much harder to get promoted from league 1 than to stay up in the championship.13
-
I had a “feeling” about this game, felt mildly hopeful it would be a 3-1 win.
Glad I didn’t back my hunch at the bookies.0 -
OK, it wouldn't be Charlton Life if someone wasn't moaning after a match. Seeing as every one else is on cloud nine, it looks like I'm going to have to take up the cudgels.
£38 for standing tickets is appalling. Especially when many of the 'seats' in that block have an obscured view. The poor views led to loads of people standing in the gangways. The fresh-faced young stewards, who all looked liked they'd stepped out of sixth-form college that very afternoon, very wisely decided to let this go. It made for an exciting atmosphere, but could have proved fatal if there had been an emergency situation. Ipswich Town need to stop being money-grabbing bastards and stop selling seats with such appalling views - and stop selling at rip off prices.
The car park advertising parking at £4 for 3 hours (seems fair) actually charges £15 to football crowds. How is this blatant rip-off even legal? I absolutely hate the way football fans are treated in this country.22 -
Someone posted this on the Ipswich X feed. I guess they’re pointing out how good the lino’s eyesight was.6 -
I'm not sure we do. In the PL yes you earn more the higher you finish but in the Championship all teams (not including those on parachute payments) get a flat 11m and the only extra you earn is when you have a home match televised.Dave2l said:I don't know what to make of this.
