We're going to meet Millwall at Wembley in the play off final, aren't we? :-)

...considering Sky spent most of the pre-game chatting about Ipswich and how good they are, how they've won 3 in a row at home, how they're a strong team that are play off contenders etc.. then ended the game saying that "clearly Charlton are play off contenders", maybe it's time they gave us the respect we deserve and give us the same sort of attention finally!
I’d prefer to be constantly underrated and surprising people.

Proves nothing. You need to be looking along the line.

Incredible performance - weird that the team did not seem leggy at all. Was surprised given mediocre performance against sheff Wednesday.

Thought Kelman/Tanto looked like more balanced partnership so would go with that again for Hull.

Want to see Leaburn/Campbell start together at some point as they look to have good understanding. Though appreciate this would impact the way we press teams.

Now that we are promotion contenders maybe teams will get wuse to our tactics and start sitting back against us. Leaburn/Campbell would be ideal in this scenario.
The absence of TC first half led to increased pressure on us, as Tanto cannot press like TC. Had Akpom's shot gone instead of hitting the bar, the game would have gone differently. Apart from missing a good chance Tanto did not offer much attacking either.
The fact that we took great advantage second half should not blind us to the problem of only having two pressing forwards.
Ahh so TC came on at 0-0 did he when we were under the cosh?

Been plenty of games where for 60 minutes we've withstood similar pressure with TC being on the pitch, only for the subs to turn the game around to steal a 1-0.
I would be very surprised if TC does not start on Saturday.
I'd keep it as is, I mean it worked pretty well didn't it?
NJ was critical of us sitting back in the first half. There was no out ball available and that will have not been lost on NJ
I think it was difficult for most of the 1st half because there was no real threat from Kelman or Tanto, and our midfield were more about containment, so Ipswich were comfortable with pushing forward. It was only after our midfield started threatening them a bit, and then when Tyreece and Miles came on, that we were really opening them up.

Momentum analysis on FotMob app tells a story.

  • Charlton are a poor side......currently sitting in 5th.

I know a lot has been said about us riding our luck in the first half but Ipswich had a much better rub of the green imo.
I lost count of the amount of times we got a foot in or a touch when they were coming at as and every time the loose ball or ricochet fell at one of their players feet. Every time!

On another day we might have had 33 or 34% possession instead of the meagre 31%!

    ;-)

The last decade plus has been a difficult time to be a Charlton fan (TBH, ever since Dowie took charge) but Nathan Jones with the support of the owners have given us a reason to be proud of our club again. We're no longer the side people feel sorry for, we're now the side that surprises,  On field, punching hard. off field there's a buzz around the place I haven't experienced (other than the odd one off) since the PL days. Last night was something else!!

    This won't hurt me a bit...😉
  • Away so didn't watch the game so only saw twitter and mates' WhatsApp messages.

At HT it seemed we'd been outplayed but had the two best chances.

2nd half was a weird "WTF is going on?" experience you only get when you're abroad and not watching.

    Fantastic result and league position.

Hull will be more difficult IMHO but what can't this Charlton team do?

The three relegated clubs aren't dominating as is usually the case so the division is wide open.

Long, long way to go but as Curbs would say "somebody's going to get promoted, why not us?"
Tbh Henry, we were saying 'WTF is going on' in the ground too..... :)

I can't believe all this debate about TC's wonderful cross which was headed home by Leaburn, the goal was given, was it over the line or not, couldn't give a fig really, but as far as we are concerned it was on the line... right. 🤷‍♂️
And we won the bloody game 0-3, nuff said...

What an exhilarating second half. They gave us a bit of a runaround during the first period, but we defended exceptionally well and had two good chances to score ourselves. We absolutely annihilated them in the second half, the pivotal moment being Sonny's great run and strike. That clearly rattled Ipswich and, rather than sitting back, we went for the kill and executed it superbly.

18 points from 11 games is an excellent return and one that is fully merited on the performances this season. We go to Hull in great heart. There is much to look forward to, including going to Southampton in February to see if we can maintain our 100% away record against last season's Premier League teams.

As for the ball being out of play it’s debatable.
From what I saw (and made out), it was 50/50…..was the “whole circumference of the ball” outside the line, the bottom surface of the ball certainly was but highly debatable from what we’ve seen IMHO.
When this happens light is seen between the bottom of the ball and the line this sometimes misleads the viewer to believe that the whole circumference is outside the line……especially when it’s happening so fast.
In a photo posted elsewhere you could see a shadow on the line from the ball so my instinct is it was in play but ultimately I don’t care.
By having this debate you are making the case for VAR.
    Please stop......(smiley face emoji thing)

Was quite surprised not to see Hernandez on for a bit to rub salt in the wounds, knowing what spikey sod NJ is. The Ipswich fans were letting him have it at half time.

You’re quite right. Sheffield United’s yo-yoing in recent seasons has confused me. Hopefully we’ll get some of the luck at Leicester that they had at The Valley.

Surely Lloyd Jones deserves his personal thread to be open.

Any reason that it remains closed @aliwibble
@_uptheaddicks It needs some tidying up after the thing about his row with a fan in the car park (and can we not relitigate that on this thread please?) but the site update stuff is a bit more of a priority.

I think the referee helped.  Let the game flow, got most decisions right.  The Campbell cross (over the line) was almost impossible to spot in real time.  No silly cards.  And the fact that not many have mentioned the referee (unlike most games) means he had a good game.  Pity they aren't all as good as him.
I thought they would disallow that, but unless I missed something, I didn’t see any complaints from Ipswich, so assumed it must have been just in.

I heard a player from Mjällby (just crowned Swedish Champions) interviewed on TV after their historic win. He was asked something along the lines of, "How did it feel when you scored?" To which he simply replied, "Boom, motherfucker!" That made me laugh so much as it would have had our commentary team shitting themselves, and their guys in the studio were all laughing and agreeing with his sentiment.

When I see NJ, I see a man with 'that' level of passion. He 'gets' wherever he 'is at' and right now he, 'gets Charlton' and as a result we are maybe witnessing something special, that as often wounded souls in the football fans world, we are not used to. But my god, are we prepared for the journey he wanted to take us all on.

Yep, it's a parallax issue. Looking from this side of the line makes the ball look further over than it actually is, but the view from the other side of the corner flag makes it look more on the pitch than it is.

I wonder, if we are still there or there about's when the next transfer window bursts open, if our owners will 'accelerate' our Premier ambitions and have a bit of speculative investment?.
