Regardless, most "rough" places in London feel much safer than the "rough" places in other European cities. I spent 4/5 years starting at 18 working late night in Brixton, travelling across south London on night buses between and only saw any trouble a handful of times
Was there last year, I would suggest that you cannot polish a turd.

Croydon is in Surrey and an absolute khazi, i have many stories about that place. Peckham is improving and has some decent pubs.Oh that is okay then, go and live in one of the boozers. In the space of 20 minutes I saw a guy doing a deal in a bus stop for some drugs(in broad daylight), and also saw a pushbike being chased by a police car, and incredibly the push bike was able to do an about turn and leave the police car for dead!1 -

All i can say is, i've brought my kids up in Sidcup and couldn't think of a better place to do so. Easy going area, good schools, pubs/ social clubs, on the doorstep of central london which has as much if not more going on, including career opportunities than most cities in the world. I've lived in Eltham, New Eltham and Sidcup and worked in central London all my adult life. Never had anything nicked or had any bother, ever. I appreciate not all places in London are as easy going but i genuinely wonder whether the media paint a far worse picture than the reality. He's not gonna have to live on a run down inner city estate and if you don't walk around with a blinged up phone and watch in the wrong places, you'll be fine. Do that anywhere in the world, you're asking for trouble in some paces.

Personally, I di not thin any Mayor should be able to stand for more than three terms, but that's another issue.

Gun-Enabled Offences
Peaked at 5.9 per 10,000 in 2002; fell 42% to 3.4 per 10,000 by 2008 and has stayed low (~1.2 per 10,000 in 2022/23).Knife-Enabled Offences
Rose to 16.8 per 10,000 in 2009–10 but declined ~20% by 2016 before recent increases; still ~15% below the peak in 2023/24, with hospital admissions for sharp-object assaults down 26% since 2020.
Overall Crime. In summary, despite media focus on recent rises, the data substantiates London as safer overall - fewer homicides, robberies, and victimisations per capita than 20–30 years ago, thanks to targeted policing, economic growth, and tech (e.g., CCTV).5 -
Actually I'm glad loads of you are seemingly shit scared of London, great news for me, stay away more room at the pub3

Safest place in the world if so.3 -
What I've taken from this thread is that our attendance numbers over the years have actually been really impressive considering the proportion of our fan base that appears to be cowering in fear at the thought of stepping foot in that London.8

Strange. A quick Wiki check.
ExtractThe Office for National Statistics data between June 2016 and March 2020 showed per person crime had increased by 31% in England and by a lower margin of 18% in London since 2016.[2] These statistics count only crime recorded by police,[3] and it is estimated that overall crime continues to decrease.[4]
The increase in crime recorded in London is not uniform across different types of offence. For example, while homicides increased over the period by 23% in London compared to 8% across England, violence against the person in general increased by 2% in London compared to 7% across England.[2] Over the same period, sexual offences recorded by police in London fell by 2% while in England they remained flat; robbery increased by 16% in London, compared to 6% across England. Otherwise, the increase in London over 2019/20 was largely driven by an increase in theft offences, including burglary. Theft[5] is stealing from a person without the use or threat of force, robbery is stealing by using force or the threat of force on someone and burglary is entering a property illegally in order to steal. Theft offences account for 50% of the Metropolitan Police's recorded crimes and increased by 4% last year. Across England, they fell 5%.
Over the longer period, the trend is similar. Since 2016, the number of police recorded theft offences (without force or threat) per person has increased by 23% in London, compared to a rise of 7% in England more widely, accounting for much of the recorded increase in crime in the capital.

https://www.london.gov.uk/london-records-fewest-homicides-year-monthly-records-beganThe number of homicides in London in the first nine months of 2025 was lower than any year since monthly homicide records began in 2003, according to new analysis from the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC).
The new figures show there were 70 homicides in London between 1st January and 30th September 2025, lower than the same period in every year since 2003 - and a 16 per cent reduction compared to the same period last year. Last year, London recorded the fewest number of homicides of under-25s for more than two decades. Figures this year show a 50 per cent reduction on last year’s 22-year low and the lowest number of teenage homicides since 2012 .
The latest figures also show there were 1,154 fewer knife crime offences in the 12 months to August 2025 in London - a seven per cent drop3. And a 10 per cent reduction in hospital admissions of under-25s for knife assaults in London in the 12 months to June 2025.
As some politicians and commentators continue to talk London down, the facts continue to show the reality when it comes to the progress being made on crime in the capital. Violent crime leading to injury has fallen in all 32 London boroughs over the last 12 months.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics show Londoners are, on average, less likely to be a victim of a violence with injury offence than across the rest of England and Wales. London’s overall homicide rate is lower than international cities, including Paris, Brussels, Berlin and Madrid.

i don’t have a ball in this game.
I just looked up ‘London crime’ as I was interested in absolute numbers rather than crime rates.
ive quoted wiki. I didn’t choose the cut off date. You’ve then chosen some cut off dates. Including a bizarrely pointless 9 month period. Im not sure London gov don’t slant statistics in their favour. But many people will lap up their version of statistical interpretation.

The facts show crime has gone down over 20-30, but the pattern is interesting when the last ten years have seen rises in crime (by 31%) and violent crime (by 40%) as per below article. What’s the story beyond the data for the big drop and rise again.0

And the key point still much lower than when most on here "grew up" in London. And of course the reports state much less crime goes unreported now than then, certainly for violent and serious crime.

Series of actual peer reviewed research papers published in journals below, some on slightly tangential subjects but they still have at least a chapter on past trends or on London specifically.
