+++ Charlton complete Tanto Olaofe signing +++

You can see why Jones likes him, strength, pace and energy and looks pretty skillful besides. He's going to give defenders a real headache.4
-
Substitutes are now just important as starters. They are finishers! Tanto seems to me to be a perfect finisher to put on against tiring defenders.6

It's becoming even more evident that we need to offload, or send out on loan, two from Ahadme, Mbick and Kanu as, in addition to one of those we have Olaofe, Leaburn, Godden and Kelman. Preferably, for me, we sell Ahadme, loan Mbick and keep Kanu (or send him out on a short term loan with a recall option if we get a couple of injuries to two of the other four).
To think last season, Godden was, at times our one and only fit and viable option up top.6 -
To do this you have to send him to the National League which would massively hamper his developmentAddick Addict said:It's becoming even more evident that we need to offload, or send out on loan, two from Ahadme, Mbick and Kanu as, in addition to one of those we have Olaofe, Leaburn, Godden and Kelman. It's a difficult one though - sending him to a League 1 side will not necessarily guarantee a starting berth and that is the whole purpose of sending someone of his age out on loan. He started just 5 matches for us in the division even though we were massively stretched at times. We probably have to keep him or, once the other four have proven their fitness (i.e. Godden is back), send him out on a three/four month loan to a League 2 side until January. We still have other options in the squad that could play as a second striker if absolutely necessary anyway.fenaddick said:

A lot of pundits were saying that he has all the qualities needed to succeed, the only thing holding him back is his finishing. From what I saw he looks like a real coup1
-
He reminded me a lot of Chuks Aneke (and not just because he was wearing his old number 22!) - he was powerful, barged defenders out of the way and generally made life very difficult for a tiring defence.
I'm really looking forward to seeing him start a game for us now.2 -
The thing about him is that if you read comments from his former manager and Stockport fans, it’s 100% positive . Bodes wellEpsomAddick said:He reminded me a lot of Chuks Aneke (and not just because he was wearing his old number 22!) - he was powerful, barged defenders out of the way and generally made life very difficult for a tiring defence.

I felt he should have been given longer as TC wasn't working and Olaofe may have shook things up a bit (and we would have seen how he played alongside Kelman), he only had about 5 minutes.1
-
He only started 5 games because he was injured for a massive chunk of it, sustaining that injury in a game he started in and nearly scored twice. He’s far too good for NL and a loan isn’t just about game time, it’s about fighting for that game time too. He needs a top end L2/mid table L1 loan at the very leastAddick Addict said:

Ideally I'd be looking at Crawley for DK if AFC Wimbledon is a non starter. Keeps him local too.fenaddick said:

In terms of development and that need to be a first choice and have a recall option then the National League is, perhaps, the right place to go.Addick Addict said:

So I tried to think of a player who went from the 5th tier to the Championship in one hit and there is one rather obvious example - Jamie Vardy. In 2011-12, at the age of 25, he was still playing in the fifth tier for Fleetwood during which time he scored 34 goals in 40 games. The following season he was with Leicester in the Championship. Vardy will have honed his early career at a level where prisoners aren't taken by hardened journeymen. He is a similar stamp to Kanu too.
If we accept that we don't want him to become a Zach Mitchell sitting in the stand then guaranteed time on pitch usurps everything else. It's all about the hunger in the player and if we want that flexibility to be able to recall him too, then, perhaps, banging in goals left right and centre at a top National League club isn't the worst option after all. He has, after all, scored just 5 goals in his last 55 appearances and was nowhere near being a starter last season for us so the argument that he has to start in League 1 isn't that strong at face value.

that was my only gripe saturday, he should've come on for TC with 20 to gogringo said:I felt he should have been given longer as TC wasn't working and Olaofe may have shook things up a bit (and we would have seen how he played alongside Kelman), he only had about 5 minutes.2 -
Would like to see him start on Saturday2

Agree, Kelman is still getting up to speed and I think Olaofe’s attributes definitely suit more for a tough away game where we will probably be more up against it.cafcsinger said:Would like to see him start on SaturdayOlaofe and TC is a lot of pace for the counter attack and then Leaburn and Kelman gives us 2 brilliant players to bring on if we are chasing the game1 -
I get that Jones has wanted to steady the ship in the Championship and give the boys who got us there a chance but it would be good to see Tanto given a go soon, particularly with our lack of goals. He’s seems a dynamic forward who makes things happen. Hopefully he gets a chance at Bramwell Lane.13
-
I think he’s going to have to be patient. He’s competing with TC for that role and TC just suits it better and knows the system and role better than Olaofe does. Think he’s going to have to be an impact player from the bench for now, but I would like to see him get more minutes than he’s getting at the momentValley11 said:I get that Jones has wanted to steady the ship in the Championship and give the boys who got us there a chance but it would be good to see Tanto given a go soon, particularly with our lack of goals. But we were all told he can't finish!!

First striker to score in the league for us this season. Pretty sure I said early in pre season that he would be our main striker before Christmas. That was before Kelman signed but I stand by it.0 -
Leaburn in the cup doesn’t count?!cantersaddick said:But we were all told he can't finish!!

Jed Wallace singing his praises on the Not the top 20 podcast. Said he's one of the nicest fella's in football.
As an aside, Ali, when talking about us said something that I was saying to my boy just a couple of weeks ago. Don't crucify me for this but I said we need to be just like Millwall this season. Strong at home. Win ugly. Rarely go on a run of defeats.
Ali said exactly the same. Well, he actually said we are more Millwall than Millwall at this current time!3 -
Will take that as the compliment it was meant to becarly burn said:Jed Wallace singing his praises on the Not the top 20 podcast. Said he's one of the nicest fella's in football.

yeah I took that as a huge compliment footballing wise, they were horrible when they came up, and that's helped them establish themselves in this league.2

As long as he's just talking in terms of football not fan demeanour.carly burn said:Jed Wallace singing his praises on the Not the top 20 podcast. Said he's one of the nicest fella's in football.

Interesting how they were talking about how strikers like Tanto were really successful at the moment in the Championship, with their strength and tenacity making themselves a real nuisance.1
