+++ Charlton complete Tanto Olaofe signing +++

Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of striker Tanto Olaofe from Stockport County for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old was a crucial part of the Stockport side that finished third in Sky Bet League One last season, scoring 12 goals and registering four assists. Prior to that he netted 21 goals in County’s promotion-winning 2023/24 campaign.

Olaofe, who has signed a three-year contract with a club option of an additional year, becomes the Addicks' third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Sonny Carey and Thomas Kaminski.

After putting pen to paper, the forward said: "It's a great feeling. There's a great atmosphere at The Valley so I'm looking forward to playing there. Hopefully I can help elevate the team in the right direction because the current trajectory is a very good one."

Manager Nathan Jones added: "We’re really happy to sign Tanto. He fits everything we want to do here in terms of his profile - he’s young, hungry, athletic and he wants to play at the next level. He’s one that will continue to get better. He’s had a real good time at Stockport and we felt it was the right time to bring him in. He’s someone we’re really excited about."

The Lewisham-born striker joined Millwall at the age of 14 and made his professional debut in the first of three successful loan spells at Sutton United, where he lifted the National League title after netting 16 goals during their promotion season. He also enjoyed a temporary switch to Scottish side St Johnstone and featured three times for Millwall's first-team before joining Stockport in 2023.

Very happy with that. One of the players that really stood out against us last season.

Did not fancy facing him in the playoffs one bit.

big, strong and quick, fits the NJ mould perfectly.

Born Lewisham and raised in Dartford - won't have any issues settling into his new surroundings

Bit of a wobble on Friday, I heard, after the signing leaked,

Deal was agreed but not done but leak notified another club who tried to hijack the deal.

Thankfully, Tanto was set on joining us so all's well that ends well.
    another champ club??

Looks to perfectly fit the mould of a Nathan Jones striker , the only striker that really caused Kayne any real problems too.

Kudos to the owners too for backing NJ with what looks to be a pretty substantial budget too.

Another signing where I can't really see a negative. Missed one high profile chance last season but his stats are generally quite good and he loves running at defenders. He's like a more direct TC with experience that TC can hopefully learn from. Effectively a four year deal too which protects us if he's a success

The Stockport OS mentions the fee is over 10 times the original fee. I think it was Rich Cawley who said they originally paid £150k (and it later increased to £200k), so that’s suggests we paid just over £1.5m. Rich has also Tweeted it’s in that region.

Looking forward to seeing him play, good competition for our strikers and adds a much needed combination of pace and strength, and still young enough to improve.

I'd probably regard him as the "Aneke Upgrade" as well looking at the squad from last season.

Only I see him as someone who'll make a much bigger contribution than Chuks

He's big, he's fast... Knows where the net is... He's local so won't have any troubles settling down here... What's not to like? - Wanted him ever since he caused Ramsay no end of troubles at Edgeley Park last season - Weren't we even "linked" in a previous transfer window, maybe January?

Was a bit worried about his ability in front of goal, he was wasteful against us, and in the Play-Off Semi-Final Second Leg, but as others have pointed out... Yann Kermorgant wasn't exactly prolific before he joined us.

We need to find the hidden gems before they've become well known at this moment in our Championship experience, if he's another Kayne Ramsay type signing I'll be delighted.

Another very promising signing for a reasonably hefty fee.

He's even taken the time to thank Stockport County on Social Media, so can see him being a popular lad. Nice that the Stockport fans are simply gutted as well to be losing him, rather than holding anything against him for making the move.

Olaofe is the only player I can remember giving Ramsay problems last season. Happy with the signings so far!

15 goals? Would have put him in the top 4 scorers in the entire Championship last season!

I think people need to temper expectations

A big lad who presses and works hard and chips in with a decent amount of goals - a classic Nathan jones signing.

    Some Stockport fan quotes:

Gutted to lose him, but cannot deny he has given everything for the cause and he goes with a lot of best wishes.

Gutted but don’t think we could stand in his way. Have loved watching him play. Good luck to him - massive part of our success and some big goals. Think he’ll go on to have a good career in the championship.

Tanto was a joy to watch 90% of the time, loveably infuriating for the other 10%. He deserves a crack at the Championship.

I think of all the players who have left this summer he will be the most difficult to replace. With his pace and power and the way he presses I don’t think we’ll realise how much that gives to our team until he’s gone.

Did they not see his miss in the playoffs?
