Squad Numbers up

  • So disrespectful to Elliot, unless he's going.
Not exactly disrespectful, I think, as it's entirely the manager's decision, but certainly tough, ruthless.  He's a hard man that Chris Powell.  ;-)

Chris Powell is definitely fecking ruthless.
  • Not really that important, but Evina 3 ahead of Wiggins... Is this an indication of Wiggins' numerical preference or possible conspiracy theory that Evina is first choice...
Wiggins preferred number, he wore it at Bournemouth. Same with Benson who is now 14 rather than 17.
So it was a conspiracy theory!

Shows that fools like me can read too much into things, thought Robbie 44 surely has its implications.

    23. Mikel Alonso??????
  • About time i can get Green on the back of my shirt now :D
  • 23. Mikel Alonso??????
    Wore it throughout his career
  • im not sure why its so disrespectful? its a number...Powell see's Hamer as his number 1. give elliot 13, 2, 145, 44...it doesnt really matter. if he stays, impresses in training and gets a chance and does well, then he'll get his spot back inbetween the sticks regardless of his number.

plus how do we know elliot hasnt requested 44 if he's been told he cant have 1.

Fair points and yes I would imagine he had requested it otherwise surely he'd just be dumped with the highest number next in the chain

i didnt realise people were this interested in a players number. maybe when the numbers 1-11 meant you were playing.

just because alonso is 23 doesnt mean he's considered the 23rd in the pecking order!!

I'd be worried to see a goalkeeper with the number 13 turn up, albeit as first/second/last choice...
  • I know squad numbers dont mean everything but Elliott 44, WOW!!  He must be off.  Wouldn't be suprised if he is not at the club come saturday

If he was off, then we wouldn't have given him a number, just like Moutaouakil a couple of seasons ago, and Youga last season

You can see Powell is ruthless but only a few days ago he was saying about negotiating new deal for Robbie. Big kick in the teeth while your down for Robbie imo think he deserves a little better than that.

    I thought Bover was 21?

Agree, still think he'll be leaving if a deal can be done.

I get the impression Elliott rejected the latest offer & now Powell has given up on negotiations & lost patience.  Ruthless yes but Powell obviously thinks its best for everyone if Elliott now moves on rather than let it drag on.  That's my take on it anyway!

I think a few things have gone on that we don't and will more never know about. Example Robbie may said he does not wnat to commit now as to see how the team fairs, club cant take the risk ofl etting him run his contract down so need to sell him.
  • We don't need three first choice keepers - not when we have Gough.

I suspect Robbie is off once the deal has been negotiated, until then he's a first team player and has a contract so gets a number.

I might have got confused with hamer, i hope so too. 21 is far too young to be in goal for us.

Elliots off, no doubt about it.

RichCawleySLP Richard Cawley Rob Elliot handed squad number 44 by #cafc. Had heard he was going to lose the number one spot yesterday.

    Hindsight man back in action...
If he'd told us yesterday, we might take his comments seriously!

Robbie 44 squad number is even higher than the two young keepers at 29 and 30 so on paper he is 5th choice, he must of told the club he was not renewing his contract because it comes so soon after the announcement that they were in contract talks. Other than that he has had a major fall out with manager or an offer has come in from elsewhere.

    He also says:

Also told that it looks highly unlikely Christian Dailly will be back in a #cafc shirt again.

Perhaps given away by the fact that he has not been allocated a squad number...
