Everyone's talking about the need for a striker but to me a new starting CB is an even bigger priority for the squad.
Think both are crucial to be honest
IF (that big word) it came to a one or the other, I consider a defender to be much more important to the present team, we have decent strikers but still look a bit flimsy in defence
As it stands Mambo is 4th choice CB Popo is 4th choice ST
Neither is a desirable situation but I could accept either argument!
i have a feeling that Mambo could be 'the answer'.. but we'll never know until he gets a few games under his belt .. of course, nowadays, there is no time for experimentation or sentiment

Bloody hell, if Mambo could be the answer what is the question?
It is clear we want 4 headline strikers from Powell's interview
However didn't Slater talk about a need for pace,,,
Hayes is a target man type striker, Benson and BWP are goal-snatchers, only BWP has any real pace... if he's injured aren't we just going to be left with 3 relatively immobile strikers if we are focusing on a "target man"?
thats why benson doesn't fit into the equation and why it was bad news when the deal fell through
So ideally then we are looking for a cross between Schlupp and Howard ;-)
That would be ideal, but you don't get pacey skillful targetmen who score goals at this level. Or at least if you do somehow find one, they won't be playing at this level for long.

Don't know why people here are so keen to see the back of Benno. 10 goals last season, in what was probably the worst charlton team in history. My opinion is, given enough games, he'll get 20+ this season. Now this probably won't happen but I'm happy to eat my hat if he doesn't beat last seasons tally.
As for all the conspiraces regarding Robbies number.........................
It's bingo slang......................"out the door......44".
coz hayes is CP's man and benson appears to playa similar game and therefore both won't play so he's an asset not being put to use and we need a target man and a pacy player to help compliment and give balance - hayes seems to be a to feet, come short type of player, bwp your finisher so the other two classic types complete the standard set. Of course, in an ideal world benson could come in if hayes is not doing it but i think its about spreading our resources to maximum effect rather than wantin rid of Benson which i guess sounds a bit harsh.
Re Rob Elliots number 44,do like the conection with Sunderland 4-4 DRAW PLAY OFF FINAL.
For me its down too his first game for Charlton at Plymouth on 5-4-2008.He took too the field in the forth minute on the forth month .True Charlton man is Elliot
Can one of you semiologists who've unravelled the mystery of Robbie's squad number now turn your attention to the meaning of the ending of The Ninth Gate? Watched it last night and I haven't got a clue.

He got the horn and went back hoping to get seconds with that gorgeous lady. Hope that clears things up.

Re Robbie: SCP has made his best offer for a contract renewal and Robbie is saying no. SCP is saying: in that case you are not committing to a longer term future to the club, so we are not committing to a longer term future with you. If we get any reasonable offers they will be considered.
Robbie is saying: I want to stay (which he does, only on better terms than SCP is prepared to offer). When a reasonable offer comes in, he will be gone, and we get some value rather than nothing in a year's time.
This raises the question about BWP: I guess as we need him a lot more than we need Robbie then maybe SCP is prepared to be more accomodating.
By the way, none of this is FACT, just my humble opinion.

Yeah, the couple of minutes of Source Code for me too please.

Agree. I like Benson's work raet, he's a honest player with a decent return of goals and could do even better with his old buddy Green but....
Powell has already been willing to off load him twice. If he does go to a more local team then that leaves room for a pacy young striker ala Schlupp and a big lump such as Howard or Wood.
You're spot on with your analysis of Hayes. That's why Powell got him in to link the play, hold it up while our midfield bombs on.
Still 28 days left on this transfer window. Still plenty of time for business to be done.

Not forgetting the loan window which closes and then opens for emergencies!!!
I'd like to keep Benno but also bring in 2 strikers as long as they compliment what we have ,I noticed today that Colchester are looking for another striker .Perfect for Benson geographically.
