    Maybe not a majority Bob but some want all the signings done now and the team playing great football from the off. Even a few dodgy pre-season results will bring down their wrath on Powell.

    And that's just the ones who haven't already decided Powell isn't up to the task or worse.

    Guilty as charged Henry ;-)  I still don't rate CP on what I've seen so far but succeed or fail the important thing is the structure within the club 
    Agree, he's not impressed me so far but it is early days.  Let's see what he does with his own team.

    Regardless of who the manager is the rest of the structure still needs to be right.

    The conditions of being an first class academy are quite expensive.  Valley Gold mag says at least 7 full time coaches and proper teaching facilities and teachers. 
    On the Kent radio interview with Slater & Varney they said a staff of 17 !

    7 FT coaches plus others such as teachers, physios etc would be my guess.

    I just hope Harts appointment is not Slaters way of replacing Powell if results dont pick up, it would seem a natural promotion i.e. Powell sacked Hart steps up.

    I would struggle to support a team managed by Paul Hart even though I am a season ticket holder

    Hart has been appointed to the role in which he excels -- developing young players -- not as the understudy to one in which he has previously failed.  Why can't we ever take anything at face value?

    This can only be positive for our future, good to see us building again and developing from ground level.  I am impressed! What happened to Gritt though in all this?

    Regarding academies. I expect that in a short while professional football club academies will become fee paying charitable schools, a bit like Millfield, providing a first class but expensive all round education with the emphasis on sport. The club (e.g. CAFC) will have first refusal when it comes to signing any graduates as professionals and scholarships could be provided for young children of exceptional promise, although how many 8 to 11 year old stars make it as 18 year old full professionals?.

    I suspect that the Chelsea and Manchester United academies already work along these lines. Have a talent pool, develop it and then loan 'graduates' out to smaller clubs with a view to selling or leasing.

    Such as set up could prove lucrative to the pro club running the academy. And Who knows?, in 2050 the prime Minister could be an old boy of that most exclusive public/private school (forget Eton, very old hat) Charlton Athletic's School of Prowess & Excellence.

    I would expect that Powell was privy to all the plans for the future and the personnel concerned. I suspect that Slater et al see CP as an integral part of the management structure

    Probably right, but a statement would help confirm that.

    Yep i think Mick is correct. Both parties know if he aint got it right by Xmas he is gone.

    Brutal, but probably spot on.

    Using the results Powell achieved in his 22 L1 games we would have been relegated If he had been manager for the whole of last season.

    Hart hasn't been brought in to light a fire under CP. His is a positive appointment based on his strong track record in developing young players.

    I do think that he represents somebody the club could turn to if CP doesn't get things right. To me its a win/win scenario. He is not the heir but he could be a regent if required.

    All we need now is a defensive coach, a midfield advisor and a forward coordinator and we should be sorted. CP can concentrate on the PR stuff at supporters club meetings until he's up tro speed with things on the playing side. (hope CP turns out to be good and i'm all for these 'infastructure' moves but i wonder if we couldn't have got one of our first choice manager's if they were given all this infastructure 'resource' to play around with) - not a criticism, just a thought.
