From the NU we appeared obviously exposed so very quickly . The wing backs looked vulnerable and we were jittery and uncharacteristically slow. Their goals looked so inevitable as well.

Not sure I can remember many games quite like that in the last 40 years. And I’ve seen some dross. It was surreal and paradoxically totally expected as it unfolded
CAFC 0-6 Leeds Viduka Smith and others?
CAFC0-4 Oxford Twine scoring for fun
    must be others as well
One for the stattos, but have we ever been 0-4 at home after 22 minutes. I certainly cannot remember that.
Not at home but I think we were 4 down after 20 odd minutes at Hull back in 2016 when we went onto lose 6-0, but yup, can’t recall anything like this.  The worse thing is this during a good period in supporting the team.  I could’ve accepted this more easily had it been the depths of Gilbey, Gunter, Adkins and Garner etc.

I hope Port Vale don't get relegated. I have never visited their ground.

What I want to know is how many cats (metaphorical of course) have we kicked tonight.

    Leeds was 1-6
Rotherham 1-5 did Ronnie Moore get 4 ?
Think Leeds were bottom as well.

hull scored their 4th in the 39th minute of that game when a hull player completed his hatrick

4 goals in an 8 minute spell today,  there’s no way we can have let that many in in such a short space of time before

Really ? That was a good side packed full of internationals. You could be right if it was early in the season.

Sure I heard the Saints fans singing "Your getting sacked in the morning"...now that would be a turn up, Nathan isn't bomb proof but pretty much lately, sure he will turn it around Tuesday...🤞

Imagine that will be the last of Apter. Think NJ has to shoulder some blame. The warning signs were there to be seen after Kaminski made that save before the first goal, waiting until 4 down was honestly shocking. Then changed to back 4 and it changed the dynamic in terms of being harder to play through and give us shape but damage was ready done. He said they want to strengthen 2 positions but CB has to be one.

Ramsay and L Jones argued alot today and I noticed Jones constantly telling Ramsay to pick players running past Jones..not sure why but it left huge gaps.

Certainly a harsh lesson but hopefully we dont let our heads go down. The teams need a shape change and different starters to fill it though..we have wingers for example...play them as wingers. I'd drop Doc for Anderson or Knibbs..someone with energy.

Lastly, I keep saying it but we are too respectful of teams...get them dark arts in ASAP. Hit players hard when challenging aswell...show we have some bollocks at least.

Also on what planet are some defenders still getting 6+ on the player marks thread after conceding 5 goals?
  • I don’t understand why some posters are digging out individual players.

Collectively, every one of those on the pitch when we went 5-0 down, plus Nathan, need to take responsibility for today’s result but individually no single player was to blame. Basically, we were ‘out-Nathaned’, which is ironic given the Southampton fans were very vociferous with their mocking of his tactics. They pressed us but we didn’t counter it and made it simple for them by playing an almost static front two because we couldn’t get the ball to them. That gave them an advantage in the press that took out our midfield and opened up the gaps in our defence. Let it happen once and we should have reorganised straight away to make sure it doesn’t happen again. We didn’t and conceded 4 more goals, hence why it’s a collective fuck up, not an individual’s fault. How they bounce back and as long as they can and do is what counts now because this game is history.

People should also remember, however, those same individuals have collectively got us to where we stand in the table tonight, 2 points off a playoff place. They can’t be that bad as some posters seem to think.

Viduka and Kewell were unplayable that day.
Was Ginola in that Leeds side as well because I remember us getting thrashed with him in the oppo?

On the whole the same people are giving TC 2 or 3. Mind boggling.

Alan Smith seemed to be everywhere in that match .We could do with a midfielder with that kind of tenacity and drive..

Just hope that's a one off but that was just plain awful. We've ridden our luck in the last few games especially at home and just don't look like scoring.

Relying on leaburn and TC to score goals isn't working just 1 league goal between them all season. No creativity in midfield and Stoke and Coventry to come.

Hope he has them all in tomorrow and plays that 90 minutes to them again. Felt sorry for Apter was made a scapegoat today.

    Shocking.

The computer game analogy is correct - It felt like early days of PES master league where you are getting torn apart by through balls and don't have the pace to do anything about it.

We need a plan B with these injuries - Our first 11 is a decent championship outfit - but 2 or 3 injuries and we are very vulnerable.

The positive is it's very obvious where we need to strengthen and the positions we need to cover if we are continue with this set up.

I'm not sure if it was wistful thinking from NJ - or being unable to adjust the system in a 2 week window - but to start with Apter and Hernandez was a very bad decision today -

Rankin Costello had moments of competency matched with giving the ball away several times - There's a player in there IMHO he just needs more game time - but again he doesn't suit NJs system.

So we need to recruit specifically to playing 2 wingbacks that are bent towards at least 60/40 defensively.

I thought 5-1 half time, flattered us it could have been more. This is  a learning curb,we got totally out played by a better all round team.Whoever played today or whatever formation we played would have made no difference,we just do not have, and cannot afford players this good.TC not getting exactly rave reviews but that lad did not stop running all afternoon. We have spent a lot of energy making up for lack of ability with hard work,I think it is now catching up on us as we just could not cope with the pace of this game.Anderson needs to come in to get some cover for our defense, and maybe Berry should get a start, but this is not going to improve over night and we must be patient and be prepared for further set backs.

Today was a Nathan Jones F--K up from start to finish, and he needs to stop blaming everyone else .

Lots of things need to align if we are going to compete with teams like Southampton.

1)Our best players need to be available.
2)Team selection needs to be spot on.
3)Tactics need to be spot on.
4)Energy levels need to be close to the best possible.

Yesterday was an abject failure on all the above requirements.
We can't blame Jones for not having his best players available, which then makes it doubly important for him to get the team selection and tactics correct.
Up until now, he's done incredibly well to paper over the cracks, but unfortunately it all fell apart yesterday.
Hopefully we don't get everything so horribly wrong again.

Wasn't it when he played for Spurs ? I remember him ripping us apart in one game.

    This.

Yesterday had been waiting to happen for weeks. We rode our luck at Portman Road & since then we have been getting away with it. Although we have been defensively tight our forward line has been shocking.

Time for plan B until players are back fit or we enter January and the transfer window opens.

First home match I’ve missed this season, away aboard, decided not to watch online so when my phone began pinging I needed to double check 5 goals…! These results happen it’s football, positives are we are still a couple of pts from play off’s & a lot more off relegation. The players will be hurting & will want to get back out on Tuesday and put in a performance - we might really struggle V Stoke & Coventry but it’s still November and we have long season ahead. Jones and players have been magnificent this season, its times like this where we need all  perspective, we’ve been here before get a kicking and it will happen again..we go again on Tuesday. COYA’s
