Thought we saw why JRC hasn’t got minutes today. He brought some solidity defensively (not hard considering how rubbish the defending was) but he was woeful on the ball. Felt like he was going to give it away every time he had it6

I'd caveat the above with the fact I don't actually think he's good enough. We all want one of our own to succeed but I just don't see it with Miles.5 -
I'd love to see him in his natural position or used as a No10. Started the season well but now seems to be completely out of favour. Agree Leaburn was one of the few to come out with any credit today. He won a lot of battles against the CBs today but there was nobody around him.
He is not going to press a back three by himself and can't be expected to. Sprint towards the left CB and one easy pass later, there is swathes of space on the other side. I think some are seeing his holding the middle as laziness.11 -
Overall, our progress since we’ve come back up has been good. We’ve seen a team work hard and fight against a lot of teams that are probably better footballing sides. Today is a day to forget but hopefully one that Jones and the team take a lesson from. I think Jones’ hands are tied with the injuries and the depth of capable talent at this level, and today was the starkest example that if we aren’t at it and giving 100%, we can get our backsides handed to us.Unfortunately, given the chasm down the left I think the next two games will be just as tough, it’s up to Jones to find something workable and I pray we can go in and frustrate both Stoke and Coventry and just hope the footballing Gods are on our side
I’m not sure what Hernandez brings to be honest and although he worked hard against WBA, he lost his head against Wrexham and is just not an option for wing back. Bree will be back on Tuesday which will give us some balance down the right at the very least, and if we’re going to insist on wing backs, it has to be Campbell.I would be tempted to get Anderson in the midfield alongside Coventry and have a holding two, play a back four with Ramsay at left back and see if that can at least bring some solidity on Tuesday. Apter, TC and Hernandez at wing backs are very square pegs in round holes
I’m not too seething given the manner of the defeat, but they do need to show more in the next two6 -
Southampton were the better team but along way from the world beaters we made them look.Lack of pace in midfield has apparent for a long while. Apter is an attacking midfielder/ winger not a wingback and can someone let me know what Hernandez brings to the side.Still take it on the chin, travel to Stoke with a slightly apprehensively attitude.0

Bad day, we're gonna get them. Too many players lacked the fight and focus they've had all year. If I had to pick a top (bottom) 3 today, Docherty, Gillesphey and Hernandez were all awful, especially first half. But the worry was they all looked like they hadn't played together... even reliable performers like Carey, Jones and Coventry were just absent, huge gaps in front of our back line. Think he did the right thing not to change it too much, the game was gone and he wanted to see some pride in the shirt. That said, I would've brought on Berry at the same time as R-C, someone who needs game time and has the right mentality.0

That was a humiliation - worst since Leeds done us 6-1 at the Valley and actually probably even worse - Southampton should've been 2/3 up before they even opened the scoring.
I can see why Jones is reluctant to start Apter, his tracking back is just not there. I wouldn't be surprised if he left at the next opportunity. Hernandez and Gillesphey all over the show, Docherty and Coventry non existent ... let's face it no one came out in Credit.
Dunno what Jones does now for Stoke given our injuries. Just hope we can claw our way back somehow.

Not been mentioned much but by God that ref was shit. Every challenge by us a booking, missed easy decisions for a couple of corners and on first look maybe a couple of pens on Jones and Knibbs, especially the Jones one. No improvement on the standard in League One26

One of the worst performances I've ever seen. Both from Charlton and from a referee. He was woeful.4

The big shocker for me was just how slow we looked right across the team. The high energy press was nowhere to be seen as we were left stranded as Southampton ran through us time after time. I thought that the international break would be a good opportunity for us to have a bit of recuperation followed by the right training to get us back into peak physical condition. Instead it looked like our preparation for this match was to fly everyone out to Kingston to watch their mates sitting on the bench against Curacao. With the days spent sitting on a beach stuffing themselves with jerk chicken and extra helpings of sweet potato dumplings. The nights spent getting high on local weed and bladdered on Red Stripe. Then undertaking the long swim home. Arriving at Woolwich Pier this morning with just enough time to scrape the goose fat off their weary bodies before heading to The Valley.13

Absolutely horrendous 8 minutes . We desperately need full backs / as the midfield getting pulled all over the place trying to protect the backline. The midfield and defence did not seem to have any pace today . Unfortunately L Jones looks like he is going to be out for a while . So not expecting many points, if any for the next 6 games with the injuries we have . We will need to strengthen in Jan although I think the rot could have set in by then, so will need N . Jones to work his magic .

We got proper "FM'd today. Totally steam-rolled in the first half, then a non event after the break. All that was missing to make it a complete Football manager result, was a final goal from Soton, in the final 10 minutes (players of the game will know exactly what I mean).
Skipper or not, I wouldn't be sad if I never saw Doc in a Charlton shirt again.1 -

Well that was shit!!!, we started awfully, they started on fire, we got what we deserved. Lessons need to be learnt quickly.The left side injuries and up front are killing us at the moment, not an excuse it’s fact, However this may upset some but please just stop with this TC as a forward bollox, HE IS A WINGER!!, and at the moment one that isn’t good enough at champ level especially when he decides to sulk. Maybe the system has to change and allow him to just be a winger and see how he does and then get two strikers up top, we’ve been found out and NJ needs to react like he has before. The bare facts today were that we got our arses whipped and rolled over and had our tummies tickled at the same time. The performance today can’t be seen again, there wasn’t a player today that deserves any credit they were all poor, let’s hope it’s a one off.2

I'm not going to over react to this result. It bascically shows us exactly where we are as a club.
We've overperformed so far this season, as the team has arguably been better than the sum of its parts, so when you come up against a team like that - full of quality, and on a bit of a roll - then there's a chance you'll come a cropper, and we did.
I doubt we'll see Apter again any time soon. He's likely to end up as one of those players who looks great in L1, but can't quite make the grade in the higher leagues. I hope I'm wrong about that.
The only positive was that we looked so much better in the last 15 minutes or so when we pressed properly. Sadly, with Miles on the pitch you won't get that.
Big test now. We have to re-group, and rediscover that fighting spirit.5 -

It was almost like they’d all only been told they were playing 5 minutes before kick off. The whole team looked unprepared for the game. Not a NJ type performance at all which given who the opposition were makes it even stranger.2
