@Garrymanilow any chance of a hint? Or given that I'm utterly dreadful at names these days, just explaining outright?Garrymanilow said:
Depending on who you ask there was another left footed, free kick scoring centre half we had who might fit that descriptionCrispywood said:
With the way Jones likes to play think he would resort back to Bell and Edwards when they’re both fit but it’s nice to know if they get injured there’s no zero need to panic. Can’t remember the last Charlton player who looked absolutely useless to start and then suddenly became brilliantFortune 82nd Minute said:
Will he be a bit part player when Edwards returns?ForeverAddickted said:Delighted for him... Like Lloyd Jones before him, made a mistake up at Blackpool and hasn't looked back since - Half wondered if he'd be up for this level, given we signed him from Plymouth, and was disappointed when he lost his place to Bell (understandably given his performances).
Was even slightly concerned a bit about Macca coming into the team: "Jones has dropped him for a reason" I thought, whilst he was a big disappointment against Cambridge - But instead he's picked up where he left off last season.
I just hope he's happy being a "bit part" player again when Edwards returns, we need a squad not just eleven players.
He was superb tonight. Carry on like that and he will be undroppable.
And his knack of scoring is a very handy habit to have.1 -

The thing with macca is that he is slow at the championship level but he is so good in the air both defensively and at set pieces that as long as we don’t have him too isolated one on one, he is definitely a net positive1

Naby Sarr, the best worst player we've ever hadaliwibble said:

I've been thinking that Gillesphey is like a sort of Naby Sarr with a trifle less romance but a trifle less chaos as well. He still hasn't scored from open play mind, those goal against Hull and QPR and assist vs Forest still giving Naby the slight edge. Try more insane stuff Macca5

Thanks @Garrymanilow
I think Naby may have been technically better, but positionally worse. Definitely far more prone to a brain fart.Veterans of the match thread will be aware that I've not been Gillesphey's biggest fan, but I think he's definitely benefited from having Bell outside and Jones inside him (stay away from the Kenneth Williams gif!) so he can concentrate on his own job, rather than having to cover wide so much as well. It was much less of an issue with Edwards than Small anyway, but I really like the way the defence is working as a unit at the mo, even despite the number of chances Ipswich had on Tuesday.3 -
Im pretty convinced that the bloke has found his home and will step up, whatever division we’re in. Same for jones.0

Think Macca is a perfect example of how good players can become if coached properly. Thank god Thomas was out of contract because based on game time and his play style I think Jones would have actually preferred Thomas over Macca if the contract situations didn’t favour Macca0

A good centre half who scores the amount of goals he does is worth his weight in gold.2

Reminds me more of Miguel llera who could take a free kick, was great in the air and loved his long range passes. The difference is llera was pony at everything else.Garrymanilow said:
