Credit to him because for a long time I’ve not liked him as a player and there are glaring deficiencies in his game but he’s really improved over the last few games and came up with a vital goal for us at the perfect time.9

You have to give credit where it's due, I've been critical of him this season but he's been brilliant in the last few games. He's clearly got ability but seems like a confidence player, I really hope he kicks on for the rest of the season.
Special mention to how shy he was getting the plaudits last night, he seems like a lovely lad.5 -

That's a very good question! We have one of the best defences we've had for years and don't really concede. Yeah, he fucked up at Blackpool but I'm struggling to think of another error leading to a goal?hoof_it_up_to_benty said:

Last time he spent a full season in
league one he got promoted, the season before he was part of a team that had the 5th best defensive record.
Not saying he’s a world beater - but he is nowhere near as bad as people made out.3 -
I did say 3 months ago Macauley Gillesphey may become a cult figure at CAFC; despite his improved form if he makes a bad mistake in a playoff match, cult may become altered.1

I was surprised when I heard Macca G speak as I thought he was going to speak in a west Country accent but I couldn't have been more wrong.
Strong North east accent sounding more Geordie than Mackem but not Newcastle but the Old Mining centre of Ashington 15 miles North of the Geordie City.
"Not a lot of people know this" but Pitmatic is the local Dialect and now Macauley Gillesphey joins the likes of Jackie Milburn, Bobby and Jackie Charlton, in the Ashington football hall of fame !
Cricketers Steve and Ben Harmison and the person who I thought Gillesphey sounds like, Mark Wood all hail from Ashington.

Follow the fantasy points. Players don't end up top of the marks on stats by accident.
He started off awful and very clumsy, there was no other way of looking at it tbh.
Last few months he's completely turned it around.
Top of the scores over every league1 club. The 24th highest rated player on the most renowned stats site and I think the 11th highest rated centre back in this league currently.

Have always thought he got a bit of unfair stick, but like our dear Naby, I suspect he is definitely one of those cb's that looks really good in a decent team and really bad in a poor one.
His combination of being decent on the ball but a bit slow, means that when the team's positioning isn't good around him, he can misplace a pass or dawdle on the ball too much. But, when he has consistent players around him who know their positions, he knows how to find them quickly and effectively.
His positioning and read of the game is good and he has a good relationship with Edwards and Jones.
He will always be susceptible to pace and balls in behind which is where the defence needs to work as a team to cover.0 -

If it was him who gave away the penalty last night I'm sure there'd be plenty of noise on here about him being 'clumsy' and criticism 'yet another Gillesphey error'. Same if it was him who played the awful pass on Saturday that put Stevenage clean through (thankfully AMB made a superb save).
Yet because those instances were Ramsay and Edwards respectively there's very little criticism and more acceptance that sometimes these things happen, quite right too - it’s L1 after all. If we had players incapable of making errors they wouldn't be playing at this level.1 -

I know what you mean. Sarr wasn't the strongest in open play but he did score a few headers; Crystal Palace, Huddersfield and Derby come to mind.Braziliance said:

LJ is a master of the art of 'permissible middle of the pitch wrestling' to get ahead of the opposing player, or get a clearer path to heading the ball. Unfortunately relativity principles apply to the laws of the game and he I don't think he can get away with the same approach in the opposing box for a cornerSimonsen said:
