Genuinely happy with that. A well earned contract extension.

Been given another year on his contract, a vote in confidence for him from our manager and coaching staff
Worded as a new contract, so presumably a deserved payrise.

Nice surprise to see us getting a first team players contract sorted early.

Will be interesting to see how Gillesphey vs Bell plays out.

Pleased for him and well deserved.

From the mistake at Blackpool onwards he looked like a CB that could make the step up.

That's a big vote of confidence. What a turnaround last season was for him. Well deserved.

Well deserved and it must feel extra nice for MG himself after being released from Plymouth last time he got promoted. Pleased for him and hope he makes the step up.

As has been said, a well deserved contract extension. I was a big critic of his but he certainly turned things around and even without the Wembley goal he would have deserved this.

Find it crazy that both Jones / Gillesphey made mistakes that led to Blackpool goals at Bloomfield Road in 23/24 and 24/25 respectfully

Look at their Charlton careers since, and both have been bloody solid in Defence since.

I’d imagine that’s a case of Bell coming in and needing to level up in wages. Either way well deserved. As others have said, such a turnaround in performances and played a huge part in our promotion (even ignoring the obvious goal!)

Towards the back end of the season he often looked like the most composed man on the pitch. Never seemed rushed. Was a colossus in the  first leg playoff game. Never missed a header.

Really pleased for him. Seems like a genuine down to earth guy who’s developed in to a tremendous defender for us

Absolutely love that. Whatever you may or may not think of MG that’s rewarding a guy who played every game and scored the winner at Wembley. Classy Charlton.
I reckon he’ll excel this year.

That's great news. He has been immense for us the second half of the season.

I had no idea his contract would have been due to expire at the end of this coming season, glad we've got him secured

Well done to him. Won me round last year. And deserves it for Wembley alone.

The Lincoln home game when both McIntyre and then Mitchell made mistakes, Macca held that defence together as well as scoring the 1st goal before Docherty got the equaliser.
A season of two halves for CAFC and Gillesphey where Macauley was excellent from January onwards.

    Howay the lad!!!

    How good was he, today!?!

Must’ve been tough to go from Wembley hero to benched in the space of a close season. Fantastic attitude from him today though - no sulking, just a determination to impact the game and stake his claim for more minutes. Looked like he has a decent case from where I was sitting.

Exactly the sort of effect you want to see from competition for places, driving up everyone’s standards.

From Jones’s comments (and the previous example of Ramsay) he has absolutely every chance of keeping his place regardless of the injury situation.

  • Absolutely unreal today, don’t think he lost a single battle in the air or on the ground. He looks slight but is just so good in the air. His aggression woke us up after a woeful first 15-20 when he put in a really sharp tackle as soon as he came on to get in front of the attacker.

AND HIS HEAD IS FUCKING MASSIVE

He was fantastic when he came on. The Wembley hero does it again. We definitely have a good squad if we have quality like Macca to bring on.

100%. Changed the flow of the match with his first action and backed it up until the end. Probably his best ever performance for Charlton.
  • Also absolutely loved the argie bargie battle he had near the covered end, won it and gave the final “fuck you” shoulder barge just as he was about to clear it.
