Blackpool's record of events is correct - we were in that pub before the game and i walked past it after on my way to a party in a hotel on the way to waterloo - my wife has worked in the natwest at borough market for over 20 years now, including a lot of saturdays and could tell you a different story about your 'element' avoiding the area
Total rubbish. I have a family member who passes through the borough for every single home game (bar midweek games) and he says there’s never any of our ‘hooligan element’ (or whatever you want to call it) around there. For the reasons mentioned above. Apparently London Bridge and the Borough has more CCTV than any other part of London. I don’t know how true that is but it’s certainly well watched as it’s very touristy around there now. Why would our thugs go and cause trouble there knowing they’re going to be filmed and subsequently arrested? Which is exactly what happened to those Charlton fans on the Bunch of Grapes which sort of proves my point. It is the area away fans are advised to go to if they want a pre match pint. So sorry mate, I’ll say it again, total rubbish.
    You can never say never.
I'd suggest what you are saying is total rubbish.
Do you know the area? Do you ever pass through the area on a match day? Im sure you do but if you don’t then I would highly recommend it. It’s great for a pre or post match pint and a bit of street food from the market. All the away day guides recommend it for games at Millwall. Go there before the game at ours later in the season, you’ll see what I’m on about. You’ll see Millwall fans passing through, but I highly doubt you’ll see any thugs roaming around looking for a row. As I said before, I drive most of the time but on the few occasions I train it (probably 3 or 4 times a season) I always get out at London Bridge for a bite and a drink at the borough. Never a seen our ‘element’ there. Not in the last ten years or so at least anyway.
My warm spanner chum, please don't be offended but you're getting on the defensive now.

Of course I'm familiar with the area but drinking there is out of my price range, the Woolwich boozers work for me.

With all due respect, your family member saying there's NEVER any of your geezers there has to be cobblers.

I’d say it’s close to never. For the reasons mentioned. The thing these people fear the most is getting arrested. Gone are the days when you get a fine and a slap on the wrist. It’s serious jail time these days. London Bridge and the Borough are far too risky on that front. Cameras everywhere.

Anyway, enough of that old bollocks. Just a week now. Buzzing for it. Love a local derby 😁

I think the context is that for non football people or those not following the specific match all groups of loud supporters can look intimidating.

I think the relative difference between hardcore hooligans and loud / bit drunk supporters is lost on many.

Supporters don’t see themselves as others see them.

So the video the other year where your lot clashed with Pompey at London Bridge, which was an arranged meet, was a myth was it? Or was that not your hooligan element? Maybe it was your ornament collecting element.
I’m not in the know or anything, nor would I wish to be, but I’m pretty sure that if two groups of hooligans are going to pre arrange a big punch up they’re not going to do it in a mainline station (or surrounding areas) where every inch of the place is covered by cctv.
🤣 🤣 🤣 you literally respond to every single mention of Millwall and their ‘hooligan element’ with an air of authority and arrogance ffs.

    ????

I think he just says it how he sees/experiences it

don’t see any arrogance in the posts.

So Charlton fans giving their own experiences and he ‘doesn’t believe them’  is right ?

A week to go and probably heading for 26k on the day I suspect with more blocks likely to sell out in the next couple of days and once they go the others will come close
  • Sponsored links:

  • Probably a lot slower than others on here but I’ve only just noticed 8 of London’s teams are at home on Saturday, with 3 more playing away in London. The 5 PL games and ours will probably sell out or be close to it. Ours will possibly be the 4th highest attendance of the day in London given the list includes Palace (only got 24k for their last PL home game), Brentford, Wimbledon and Orient.

I think on Borough Market he's made his case pretty well, and without any arrogance (speaking as an "outsider" who hasn't tried the area on a match-day, apart from after the 2019 Wembley play-off, when the only footie fans around were happy groups of Charlton)
  • I've seen the atmosphere at the Market Porter as a bit more than edgy, let's just say.

Wasn’t that at Waterloo? Millwall fans coming back from Southampton and Portsmouth getting on a train home after a game in London?
Maybe you are right mate, I suppose there are no cameras at Waterloo….i mean why would there be? Not many people use that station.

His valid point is that it was not prearranged in front of CCTV.

Editing my comment because Covered End pretty much covered it and don’t really want to get drawn in to the debate again.
  • A few points for you all. Most “firm” or connected wouldn’t be seen dead making a noise or drawing attention to themselves. They wouldn’t go in the usual public places or anywhere there’s a camera and play up. If there is a meet it’s off plot 9 times out of ten.

Although if the right people bump into the right people all of that is out of the window.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter because I think all sets of football fans that are interested in fighting will all be on the same side next Saturday what with the march being the same day!

  • Some sort of general London fight occurring at a March @cafc_se7? Are you some kind of Russian bot??
  • Made the decision this evening to come down for the game, bringing the wife along for her first experience of the valley (her only other games were Oldham away and Leeds away), although she wasn't keen on sitting in block A of the curbs stand

No I wasn’t suggesting there will be fighting! I was saying the groups normally looking for a punch up will probably mostly be standing in unison!

Il bring it right back…it will be interesting to see how many Wall fans are in our end if they score. I think it’s really disappointing that genuine Charlton fans have potentially got/given Millwall mates tickets!
