Disappointing to see half of block D in the Curbs stand is unsold. Quarter unsold in E, although I note that's thinned out somewhat since yesterday. Some of the best seats in the house on the halfway line. £40 + booking fee.

Plenty available in the rear of the West Upper, decent seats but at £40, they'll struggle.

100 or so souls are keen to sit as near to the away end as possible in the Curbs. But take those sales out of the equation the blocks nearest the away end - 2 blocks in the Curbs, 1 in the West Lower, 2 in the West Upper - almost 100% availability.

(I'm not taking on @letthegoodtimesroll btw - that's just my take on seat availability)
Blocks nearest the away support would sell out first in the reverse fixture at the Den!  Two very different football cultures, three miles apart.
I think you'll find a decent portion of these 100 people are Millwall fans.
Obviously, which adds weight to his point.
Not really. He’s saying they would want to be near their own support, which would be the case for lost clubs. Unless I’ve got that wrong?
I thought he meant that when Millwall come to Charlton our fans get as far away from them as possible, but when we go there, Millwall fans want to get up close to the away fans, hence ‘very different football cultures’.
Yes but the away fans for any Millwall in this case would also be Millwall so doesn’t add weight to his point 😁

Let’s me honest a lot of Charlton fans have Millwall mates and Millwall fans have Charlton mates …. It’s funny none of us have Palace mates.
The grounds are just 3 or 4 miles apart. The only thing that separates our inner London areas is Deptford Creek. Once you get past that and head further out to Kent the areas merge for large parts. We’re always going to share mates and family members.
    But not prison cells.

    That would be barely eagle.
  • I brought in Shirley (closer to the west Wickham end) back in March 22 having grown up in Brockley, and it’s probably mainly Palace, but I think a lot of Millwall fans live in Bromley, which I am quite close to.

It would be interesting to see a visual of the hotspots of where the respective fan bases typically reside. I imagine we have a lot quite obviously as you go into Bexley, Bexleyheath, further out etc.  I know Palace suck up support in Sutton and surrounding areas.  This is just my opinion, but I think the people that now live in and around where I grew up in Brockley, Peckham, New Cross, which are more Millwall than anything, probably don’t like football and the gentrification of the area has impacted potential support.

I have no doubt there are still Millwall families that go back generations in this part of the world, but it would be interesting to understand how many
  • Goes without saying Bermondsey of course

I was brought up in Brockley (Crofton Park) and I didn't know any millsmall or palarse fans although there were a few at school.

I was very close to you then as grew up on Gordonbrock road.  My primary school didn’t have many fellow classmates who supported a local team, I was definitely the only kid who got taken to football.  Secondary school (Bonus Pastor in Downham) slightly different as I met a couple of boys who at the time supported Millwall and went who became friends.  Lost touch many years ago though.  Probably a good thing since we started playing them again over the last 15 years 😂

I went to Gordonbrock and then Sedgehill.
    Definitely not Boney Bastards 😂
  • Still got 6 years before they pass the 35 year period in which they failed to beat us.
The period in which we played 6 times?

If you win on Saturday you’ve still got to go 11 games unbeaten to match our current run 😉
And you'll still have 6 years until you get to 35 years if you win ;)
More chance of that happening than you going on a 12 game unbeaten run 😁
    Fair

I always differentiate between fans of clubs and fans of clubs who go. In the areas you mentioned, there will be lots of people who say they’re Arsenal and Chelsea and Liverpool fans etc. Of the fans who actually go and watch football most of them will still be Millwall, with a smattering of other London clubs.

I personally know of lots of our fans who still come from Peckham, New Cross, Deptford, Walworth etc (Peckham in particular, big Millwall contingent) and of course Bermondsey is still rammed with Millwall. Well, around The blue and those estates surrounding that part of Bermondsey and Surrey Quays and Rotherhithe. Bermondsey Street and that side has been gentrified and we probably have less fans there.

  • Would be interested to know how many Charlton still live in Charlton/ Woolwich.

Not many i expect. Eltham probably a lot and then Bexleyheath, Welling and then out to kent proper eg Dartford and beyond is where most of our attendant support hails from now along with stragglers like myself who've moved right out of the m25 I'd imagine.

I'd expect millwall probably have more attendant fans living in the areas near to the den than we do to Charlton and woolwich but they'll also be all across the same suburban areas and Kent proper as us too.

Much of the local "support" now in the vicinity of the valley is probably arsenal Liverpool and man United etc.

I expect that would be different had we stayed in premier league or hadn't been as shit as we have past 20 years in the same way palace probably have gained a lot of local support to their ground.

A majority of Charlton fans live within the M25, and most of those in the SE quadrant.

You rarely meet any palace fans north of the Bromley and Croydon suburbs. That’s why I’ll never class them as a proper south east London club.
Not sure that's true any more. I see plenty in Dulwich, Herne Hill, Brixton, Streatham even Camberwell. Years in the EPL will do that.

I think the area that is mixed the most is Eltham. From what I’ve heard from friends and family who live there I’d that it’s pretty much split 50/50 Millwall Charlton.
Living in New Eltham, 100% agree.  My boys go to Hurstmere and (thankfully) the Charlton fans have started to come out of the woodwork and reveal themselves more in the last 12 months. I would say it’s 50/50 support for Charlton / Millwall where they support either of those two teams.  Same for the local (Welling) football team he plays for.

Fair enough. I still don’t class them as a proper SE London club though and never will. 😆

I live in Plumstead, I’d say there are more Charlton than Millwall here, of those who go to matches. Of those who don’t go it’s closer.
But including all fans, those who go and those who don’t, there are more PL fans.

been told by a millwall mate (no really, he IS a mate) that there could be upto 500 of their fans in the home area!
    Fuck em
You could do, but it would be straight to the STD clinic afterwards

Saw a lad in a Palace top (it had Palace written on the back) heading towards the William Camden last Friday night. I'm still not sure whether to believe my eyes. Also recently saw a middle aged bloke walking up from Belvedere station in a Palace top. Whatever we may think or generalisations we may make here, Palace fans are probably the least intuitive or respectful of local rivalries. That's why I would have any as a mate. They tend to be clueless about culture and wear the wrong things in the wrong places.

  • I lived in Bermondsey for three years from 2019, towards the Bermondsey Street end, and there is definitely still a core of local Millwall fans in the area.  Not overwhelmingly obvious, but you see the odd shirt.

Moved back to Greenwich, East Greenwich, in 2022 and have been pleasantly surprised how many Charlton fans you see around and about, including a lot of young kids.

I find it bizarre that any one has palace as our main local rivals , it will always be the scum .
Only reason i can think of is we have too many Bromleyites in our support and they mainly suffer with an identity crisis .

I don't think it is viewing Palace as our main rivals, it's more about despising them as a plastic club from Surrey with plastic fans who think they are South London - and also the way the Stripey C*nts treated us when we played at Shithurst.
There are only two proper South East London professional football clubs and that's us and, I agree, the flat cap wearing wankers from Bermondsey, who are our only rivals.
Only the spanners are originally from north of the river. So there’s only really one.
  • Can honestly say I’ve never worn a flat cap in my life 😆
