Does anybody have any knowledge on why the loan is only till Jan? Are we expected to buy him then? The Saints want him back if they have injuries? Is another option like Fukada coming in? NJ has made a big thing about looking for someone for this role (is that a dead ball specialist or more of a dedicated RB) since Jan, which hints at Small not really being the answer.
I reckon either the Fukuda deal has been sealed and signed, but all parties have agreed not to officially announce it u til we have him in Jan, or we've agreed a fee with Southampton, should we want him. If that's the case at least we know this guy is going to be at his best to earn a move.
Bree has more recently played RCB for Southampton but is traditionally a RB/RWB, so think he gives us cover in the event Ramsay picks up a knock plus competes with Apter (in the position Apter has started in this season). Think this signing will affect Apter more than Ramsay but not necessarily negatively, can see Apter playing further forward. Could play Apter cutting in from right, rather than TC cutting in from the left for example if a 3-4-1-2 is played or we could switch to 3-4-3 with TC and Apter flanking a STR.
If that second one happens expect us to be even more overran in central midfield
Agreed, but was tried in pre-season so expect to see it play out at some point, perhaps if we are chasing a game or when things have settled against the weaker defensive sides?
I would like to see Apter in the Carey role with Bree on the right. We then have Carey to replace TC when needed (he played on the left for Blackpool).
This sounds like when Appleton popped TC in the middle of the pitch and he got bullied after the first game
TC got bullied on Saturday too!
Did well to get an assist then
And get the bully booked for pulling him back after TC had skinned him
And folding like a deckchair for their second goal?
We were pushing for a winner and got caught on the ball - it happens - i spoke to an arsenal fan who watched the game impartially and he said we were the better team and only team who looked like winning it second half which is indeed, how it was. Knibbs, Kelman and Burke will will be a couple of weeks fitter and we have another RWB option. There was always gonna be the odd wobble. Let’s keep right behind them.

I’m guessing that we’ve stopped our interest in Fukuda. Bree in on loan and if he does well then we’ll pay a token fee to Southampton in January if we can agree terms with the player. I doubt Saints will want him to return in January because he walks for nothing in the summer. They’ll be keen to get something.

I'd like to see Apter more centrally as a 10 type player. Saito changed the game for QPR, and I think Apter is capable of similar. With Apter running at the defence Leaburn/Gooden peeling off, we'd create a hell of a lot more than we are currently
It was sneaky of Saito to burst forward like that, when both teams were settling for a draw.

What with an over hit cross ?
TC's cross was perfect. it was Apter's shot that was fluky.

I've not heard anybody say he's played RWB. He's played CB in a 2 in the Prem, RB and RCB. I advise the cheapskates to subscribe to Substack!!!
The Southampton podcaster on the Substack interview only reflects on his time at the Saints. Prior to that spell at Luton a few seasons ago he spent 60%+ of his playing time at RWB/RM, the rest between RCB in a 3 and sub 10% at RB.

If we played 3-4-2-1 then it wouldn’t be Apter and TC, it would be Apter or TC paired with Knibbs or Carey. There’s no way Jones would leave us that exposed through the middle
I’d be setting up this way for all the more difficult games once Bree is fit enough to start games. For games we think we should win I’d keep the Apter RWB setup
Was it the 1st goal against QPR that Edwards was out of position and a dummy in the middle led to Smyths goal. Apter didn't tackle him but was challenging.
Needs experience at WB but I suspect his remit is only to get back if the FB/WB gets forward
In fairness to Apter he managed to get into a position where he’s covered the whole right hand side of the goal and is goal side the only way Smyth was scoring was to hit it straight at Kaminski which he did which he should have saved. He’s not done anything wrong to suggest he’s not cut out to play as a wingback. If Bree is just extra cover for RCB and RWB so be it better option to have than Hobden and Z.Mitchell

Any updates ?
Pearl Harbor all over again.
