Has he ever played Lb or LWB out of interest? Wondering whether he is also seen as an option there were Edwards to get a long term injury

Why are we worried that Jones has "suddenly" decided to bring in a player for this position; has he not said for eight months that we needed strengthening the RB/RWB?
  • He’s not there to replace apter

What's the chance that he might operate with wingers at times? Campbell on the left and Apter on the right. You have also got Tanto who can play on the wings and so can Fullah.

If he does switch to wingers will it not be more of a 3421? Guessing he keeps the 352/4231 when Apter and TC are on the pitch but may swap and go Bree and someone like Kelman up top to make it a more traditional 352

Isn't this what we already do in possession?

We do play with wingers in possession. I think the big challenge is finding our strongest midfield and attack.

It’s great we have a lot of options, but that makes it tempting to keep trying different combinations.

It might be a while before our strongest 11 becomes clear like it did last season.

We’ve got Berry, Godden, Z Mitchell, Mannion and AMB to add to the above too.

So in a 3-4-3 we play, who are the front 3?

Set up like that regardless. Out of and in possession. Keep it a flat back 4 and keep TC and Apter away from defending and as high as possible for counter attacks and pressing. One possible sticking point is whoever plays as a 10 needs to be up and down.

Not the 3 I would play at this moment in time, but I think you would agree that no way is Apter a wing back in that formation.

Our defenders are much more suited to playing in a back 3, and it gives us the defensive solidity that has been responsible for promotion last season, and probably gives us hope for safety this year. No way should we be sacrificing that

Plus from our strikers I think only maybe Leaburn and Godden are good enough all-round to play as a lone striker in the championship

What’s that got to do with Jimmy Cheese playing right back?

confused with this signing .. he's not fit, only here for 4 months, just enough time to get fit .. would be better to have recalled Alex Mitchell (if he wants to return) i m o (I'll wait for the choruses of 'Mitchell's not a full back/wide player etc)

Southampton want to get a fee for him, couldn’t find any permanent takers so happy to let us have him on loan until January. In January Southampton will again want to look for a fee for him, if he does well for us we will probably sign him if the finances work (he’s on a lot more than we can afford at the moment)

Bree is a top championship player, Mitchell is a league 1 player

He’ll be brieming with confidence with you lots comments.

for clarity that’s both a cheese  (Brie) and a fish (Bream) pun .

So yeah, I’m kinda a big deal...a big fish in a small pond you might say. The big cheese.

This this this ^ , if the fee isn't daft and we can make it work wages wise I would expect this to be made permanent in Jan if it works out.

I can't believe after half a season of playing this way people are still talking about formations and positions as if they're a fixed thing

No didn't you hear all the experts on Rob Apters career. He had NEVER played there before in his life before joining us, not even in training

Ha, but the problem with your pun is that it’s carp fishing, not bream, that’s big in Brie.

Apter is a wing back In the same way as Grealish, Saka and Salha are wing backs.
He spends most of his time high up the pitch close to the touch line, doesn’t defend much, but does track back with his full back.
Against QPR he did not go into our final third.

Look up his heat map on sofascore and compare it to Josh Edwards.
You can call him a wing back if it makes you happy. But he isn’t.

Heat map only shows where he touches the ball usually. Without the ball unless we are pressing high, then he is a definitely a wing back. With the ball he is a winger
