Nathan signing all his mates. 😂 I won't mind if it works out, but I think Bree will have a similar role to Burke. Experience, leadership and squad depth.
It's an option. I thought we were very lightweight at QPR and thought Carey and Apter got knocked off the ball far too easily. Rankin Costello and Bree may well be the way to go away from home while we wait for them to beef up a bit.
If Apter is indeed a wing back the defensive side of his game is appalling. He is slow getting back, doesn't always get goal side, fails to use his body well enough and can’t tackle. Love him for his forward play, but I can see Bree coming into the starting line up as soon as he is fit to do so and Apter either moving position or becoming a finisher from the bench.
I would like to see Apter in the Carey role with Bree on the right. We then have Carey to replace TC when needed (he played on the left for Blackpool).

He played on the left in midfield rather than as a second striker who drifts wide, a subtle difference but they’re very different positions. Carey would be competing with Knibbs for Apter’s role if you made those changes

This sounds like when Appleton popped TC in the middle of the pitch and he got bullied after the first game

TC got bullied on Saturday too!
Did well to get an assist then
And get the bully booked for pulling him back after TC had skinned him
Was a bit hesitant opening this thread as wasn't sure if I could handle many more Cheese puns. Came through it fairly unscathed, but think I know more about fish now than DairyLee Bowyer

If we play an orthodox right back in a 3-5-2, and Campbell wide left , with the lack of creativity in midfield , it’s a recipe for long ball and no goals .

Disappointed my Jamboree post didn't get a couple more lols though
Letter in The Guardian: ”Just before the transfer window closed, Charlton fans were delighted to learn that James Bree was joining on loan from Southampton.
Many think that he compares favourably with Ben White of Arsenal.

I agree. It will be interesting to see what Jones does. Bree is a good player with bags of experience in the Championship and has played in the Premiership. You don’t get to do that unless you have something going forward in the modern game. That said, I like Apter and would be disappointed if he were not playing. Maybe less so if we are playing Middlesbrough away, unless of course he is in a role other than a wing back. Plenty of choices of formations and players. All come with risks and advantages. My guess is he will start Bree when fit as he likes to get too 70 minutes not losing. As I said. Interesting 🧐
Playing either a 3421 having Apter/carey/Knibbs/TC/Oloafe behind Leaburn/Kelman/Godden. Playing an orthodox 352 but playing two central strikers rather than having TC/Oloafe drift wide allowing Edwards to get forward and not invert to a LB or keeping the current system and bringing on Bree at RWB last 20 to sure up the defence and try to win the game from a set piece is probably the 3 options we have. Really hard to say which way Jones is going to go

Apter is the new Claus. Avoids a tackle like Angela Rayner avoids stamp duty and is a natural going forward. I can't stand this habit of clipping a player's wings just to fit in a system. If he has never had defensive qualities, or if his attacking qualities have always outshone his defensive ones, then play him in his natural habitat, FFS.
Does anybody have any knowledge on why the loan is only till Jan? Are we expected to buy him then? The Saints want him back if they have injuries? Is another option like Fukada coming in? NJ has made a big thing about looking for someone for this role (is that a dead ball specialist or more of a dedicated RB) since Jan, which hints at Small not really being the answer.

Just makes the most logical sense. If Bree is really bad we’re not stuck with him for the whole year and can bring in Fukuda in Jan as we free up the space and options. If Bree is brilliant we can probably go to Southampton and make the move permanent in Jan since he’s on the last 6 months of his deal he’s not wanted so will cost almost nothing they’d probably just want his wages off the bill. So this way we can make sure to end up with the best option

I agree, makes sense for us, just wondered if any itk’s knew the main reason?
I'd like to see Apter more centrally as a 10 type player. Saito changed the game for QPR, and I think Apter is capable of similar. With Apter running at the defence Leaburn/Gooden peeling off, we'd create a hell of a lot more than we are currently

This is was I said above, lets see what he can do.
Can't see it having been explicitly considered yet, so thought i'd ask, if anyone can explain please whether the signing of Bree could have any consequences for Ramsay and how he is asked to play?

No. Bree is first and foremost a FB, he's also been played on the wing so he will be playing on the same style and position that Apter currently does, albeit he's probably more defensively minded.
Ramsay will probably therefore need to do less defensive cover out wide but his position/role is fundamentally still the same.
Bree has more recently played RCB for Southampton but is traditionally a RB/RWB, so think he gives us cover in the event Ramsay picks up a knock plus competes with Apter (in the position Apter has started in this season). Think this signing will affect Apter more than Ramsay but not necessarily negatively, can see Apter playing further forward. Could play Apter cutting in from right, rather than TC cutting in from the left for example if a 3-4-1-2 is played or we could switch to 3-4-3 with TC and Apter flanking a STR.

If that second one happens expect us to be even more overran in central midfield

Then watch our shape when we defend, TC moves central to become one of two strikers, and Apter tracks back to form 5-3-2/3-5-2 shape.
When we have the ball, he becomes a RW, while Edwards is a LB in a back four.
Small did the same last season once he started regularly playing on the right.
