Main problem in UK is actually that nearly all vet practices are now owned by a handful of companies so they act as a cartel and charge whatever they want. It's a real problem.

I don't disagree, I don't believe my local vet is in that group but still very expensive. Real shame that people cannot look after their animals for a decent price. Because they then don't get looked after apart from being either thrown out on the street or requesting to have them put to sleep when they face a high bill.

Many small practices have been bought by one of the large groups but have not changed their name or staff or anything, to maintain the illusion of being the friendly local business. The fact that you describe them as very expensive would lead me to think they may well be owned by a big group.

There was me thinking that a vet is there to look after an animal, not just for their own pocket(I do realise they need to earn a living of course).
How upsetting must it be that owners who love their pets sometimes may have to see them suffer because they cannot afford a vet's fees.
If it came down to me eating or my dog, my dog would be fed every time.
Those that didn’t know, if your animal is on lifetime medication you can ask for a prescription. For example : our Bailey was on thyroid tablets available from the vets at 55p each x twice daily, same medication available on line with a 6 month prescription at cost £10 …… from around 11-12p a saving of over £60
Bowyer needs a medication for life at £15 per month, available again online for around £6 per month, vet is refusing to give a £19 prescription for more than a month making it uneconomical to buy them online rather than them.
Our dopey cat has managed to injure his ear again and keeps scratching it which makes it worse. He’s managed to lose every collar we’ve used in the past so have tried one of this type. Had to get one that makes him look a bit of a prat to try and educate him not to do it again.
The silly bastard has injured his other ear and we’ve had to put the collar back on him again. However, he managed to get out while I was doing the bins so is now walking the mean streets of Bexley looking like Barry Mooncult from Flowered Up.
