He can deliver set pieces, sign him up0
-
I wonder and I'd personally quite like this , bring in an RWB and play Apter from the 10? Think he could cause a lot of problems there.1
-
I actually wouldn't be surprised if set pieces is what NJ was referring to wanting to fix over the last 7/8 months instead of an actual position. Fits in with the signing of Gilbert in January tooNabySarr said:
Good set piece delivery would make me a lot more pleased with this signing. Something I can’t believe we haven’t addressed this window so farScoham said:Derby fans on Joe Ward.

I don’t think so, he’s a wide player, he’s best playing out wide. Think he could get a bit lost in the championship playing centrally, and Carey/Knibbs offer a lot more physically in that position which is very important for usMarcusH26 said:I wonder and I'd personally quite like this , bring in an RWB and play Apter from the 10? If we switched to 3-4-2-1 then I think it would make sense to move Apter forward, but with the number of strikers we have I think that move is unlikely5 -
In a couple of years yes, now no. He's learning a new league, new system, new surroundings. Doesn't need a new position tooMarcusH26 said:I wonder and I'd personally quite like this , bring in an RWB and play Apter from the 10? Think he could cause a lot of problems there.0 -
I like the 3421 idea but I agree it's very unlikely we'll see it. Apter and Knibbs off of Leaburn or Godders could be interesting.NabySarr said:

Wednesday not bothered AMB Hobden Laqa Mitchell and Fullah will be lucky to make any appearances across that backline. Yes we conceded some bad goals Saturday but we didn’t conceded loads and loads of chances and the previous 3 games we had faced almost nothing. We saw at Rotherham last year blips are likelyTheAddicks4Ever said:
Hey Crispylimp ! What planet are you on - Our defence was shocking midweek and against QPR it was woeful that second goal we conceded was terrible a run from the halfway line !!!Crispywood said:
Started to concede it’s been 1 game the only problem we have at the moment is putting the ball in the back of the netLincsaddick said:
according to R-C and his profile he is a 'play anywhere' all rounder .. AND I didn't say as a striker .. read carefully, I used the term 'compromise' to provide much needed support/cover for Edwards and as support for the striker(s), services which i m o Campbell fails to provide .. we are not scoring goals and have started to concede, change is neededfenaddick said:
You want to play someone who plays as CM or RWB as a striker?Lincsaddick said:
agreed .. Nathan's signed 2 quite expensive (for us) strikers yet is selecting last season's duo .. also, i m o playing both Campbell and Apter out wide is a luxury .. Nathan seems to be stuck with a defensive mindset yet plays with 2 'wingers' .. Rankin-Costello, who has shown little so far with limited chances, should be brought in on the left as a 'compromise', i.e. cover for Edwards and to replace Campbell, who as ever, flatters to deceiveStarinnaddick said:I have a feeling NJ doesn't know the best combination to play up front yet.4 -

Listened to Charlton Live this morning and, upon listening to NJs interview after the game, he specifically said that he has been looking to sign someone in this role for around 8-9 months. That obviously means that, for this role, we wanted to sign someone while we were still doing well back in January and it was a gap then (and not just now).
If we are signing someone for a fee, this just suggests to me that they are going to come into the starting XI and not just be cover. I just feel if we are spending a fee, then they are to improve/build on what we had then and not just what we have now. The targets obviously change for going up, but the need for the role remains. It gets me thinking as to where we were weaker in January.
I am assuming that it's a wing-back, but then who gets dropped from Apter or Edwards if we are signing someone on a fee? That's the bit that doesn't make sense to me - I don't think we drop any money to improve us IF it's to improve the starting XI. Maybe it's nominal spend for cover, but that feels like that doesn't really improve us. It's an outside chance that it's a midfielder, but he does seem pretty wedded to keeping Docherty in there and I'm also struggling to see him buy someone that would depose him.
As Lewis Catt mentioned, we do lack a ball-carrying midfielder. That's the dream for me, but I think finding one that presses as well as NJ wants AND can carry the ball is going to be silly money. I suspect it'll be a wing-back, but outside of cover, I don't know whether the signing we make today is one that unlocks more progressive attacking play.
Will be interesting to see who it is.5 -

This is literally what Sonny Carey is. Willing to bet money there’s no chance on Apter or Edwards gets dropped any wingback we do sign will be cover but would offer us something a bit different than what both of them offer.th0rryy said:Listened to Charlton Live this morning and, upon listening to NJs interview after the game, he specifically said that he has been looking to sign someone in this role for around 8-9 months. Will be interesting to see who it is.As much as we could do with a midfielder we’ve brought in 3 already and NJ obviously loves Karoy Doc and Berry just don’t see how that’s possible unless NJ decides to suddenly switch up on some of his favourites.0 -

Only 3 players i could get excited about signing today- Rafael from Kyoto Sanga, Mendez-Laing from MK or Chuks Aneke off his sick bed. (I'm assuming Chuks is the Target Player Profile for the missing striker role).
(Actually further research tells me Chuks is into earning a "passive income" from a link up with 3sixty property group, who also use Kayne Ramsay's picture on their homepage. )1 -
Yeah they won’t be dropped but a new RWB will play a part in every single game, means people can stop moaning about TC being put there.Crispywood said:

Easily worth paying a fee for someone who will play that much0 -

if we’re looking at the perfect scenario A RWB CB (loan Zach out) and an elite midfielder1 -
For me a forward is key.. We need someone that can put the ball in the back of the net.. We are creating more chances, then we have ever done since Jones took over, but we just not putting it in the net. We need a bit of pace..
RWB is also key..10 -
Ward been involved in all but Derby’s opening league game this season, so must be fit, and scored a cracking free kick against West Brom (league cup) from the type of area we spurned so many chances from against QPR0

Pretty mad if the club has spent circa 5 million pounds on strikers and by game four have decided they can't put the ball in the net!DubaiCAFC said:For me a forward is key..
