My Championship expectation is we finish 17th and have a win 😃 and a loss😔 against Millwall.
Millwall are Charlton's nemesis BUT not Nathan or any of our squad going into this season 25/26. It's the majority of fans with the memories of the defeats and draws since we did the double against Mick McCarthy's Millwall last century!
Spurs went 16 seasons without beating Chelsea in the League until 2006.
It's about the here and now and the 46 games that are ahead of Charlton this season; not our record against teams in the past whether Millwall or Pompey.

Given the recent record of sides that have come up from League One, I think that a lower to mid-table finish would represent that, but I feel that if they can get off to a good start and build up a strong enough head wind then I wouldn’t be surprised if they finish higher. They have Wednesday, Preston, Hull, Blackburn, Watford, Oxford, Stoke and Wrexham all finishing below us at least.
I would love to see that, and curious to hear why they think that is on the next episode.
Really decent listen tbh, they are growing on me. I feel a lot of the time they are joking and not trying to actually one up eachother, they sound a bit like siblings.

On the NTTT betting podcast, one of the hosts has us down for 13th in his final table prediction, and identified an ‘11/4 for top half’ bet as one to watch.
However the other host mentioned he’s interested in the same odds for relegation…
So much of the discussion about where we land is about how our Championship unproven players get on, and how much NJ can get out of them. I think anywhere above the drop would be fantastic, and that we will stay up.
It's funny how we're one of the bookies favourites to go down but none of these prediction articles seem to place us finishing up in a relegation place. It's a similar story with the podcasts I've seen too.
Reading the vibe in various threads over the past few weeks and now that the euphoria around our summer recruitment has subsided and with the first game almost upon us, it feels as though a fair number of us are losing a bit of faith.
This constant talking up of the standard of the championship is a prime example. Come on fellas, it’s not the PL. Yes maybe the top few sides still flush with PL parachute money are gonna be a real handful but there are plenty of teams who have been sloshing around in the division without pulling up trees. Add to that the fact that last season’s promoted sides all survived, is the step up a level really that substantial.
I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two suffer 2nd season syndrome and with Sheff Wed and Hull in disarray I can see NJ steering us to a comfortable mid table finish. Who knows, with the feel good factor carrying on from last year and the general positivity around the club we could even aim a little higher COYR !!!
Like any other season I want us to compete, the players to attack games and commit to what they are doing.
The volume of new players is a blessing and a curse, I rate most of the players we have signed especially Knibbs, Carey, Bell and Apter but they need to hit the ground running. We are a hard team to play at home and I think will be a proper away team especially against Leicester, Southampton, Swansea etc however I also think we will need time for the players to fully understand their roles. Whilst I'd take a consolidation season finishing above the relegation line we have the potential depending on a lot of moving parts mainly regarding recruitment, to be a outside bet to finish outside the play offs.
I worry about Kelman and Oloafe not getting going immediately and our fans deciding they are shit. Both are very different players to Godden and Campbell.

Impossible to predict, in my heart were top 6. I never go into any match thinking Charlton may lose...obviously rationally I know we will lose, draw etc. I've experienced more than enough Addick promotions and relegations, to know this season is unpredicatable and we won't know really which direction were going till around 10-15 games ....just looking forward to the Championship journey ahead!

With this, I feel the positive factor is our manager who, with buy in from players, gets them to play above their means as a team. Provided that we make things difficult and don't get rolled over by anyone (particularly at home), we should be able to compete fairly well and be positive against teams at home. There will be times and games where we have to grind out results, even at home, but in NJ we trust to get that right.
Some players will take more time to bed in than others. Whilst Kelman's form in L1 was stellar, he is now under pressure with a fee, at a bigger club than Orient, in the league above and in front of bigger crowds that expect goals. It will take time and it may not be immediate. Hopefully, several of them flourish against Watford tomorrow, but with the number of signings we have made, it may not be instant.
I've watched and listened to A LOT of Championship content in the past week or so, and yes, plenty predict us to do enough to stay up. Equally, I'm sure a lot of those same people predicted Luton to be comfortably top 6 and Oxford to finish bottom. There's some reassurance to take that people think we've done our business over the summer in the right way. Tomorrow is the start of that on the pitch. My expectation is reasonable for a good season, based upon my own assessment and informed by others. I do however think that a level of tempered expectation will be required for a least a few of the new players.
As I sit down tomorrow in a 20k+ Valley in (hopefully!) the sunshine, I hope so many of the new lads have a storming game and will sing them on every step - but equally, I won't be writing anyone off tomorrow.

The squad is probably a bit too big ...but it's a more convenient problem in comparison to a squad being too small.
