Coventry a bit too attacking today for my liking, leaving a lot of space between midfield and defence

We look good when we counter. Lots of quality up top.

Carey wins a FK centrally about 25 yards out from goal

Carey is showing some nice touches, and brings out a foul for a FK in the D...comes to nothing still 0-1 last 3 minutes of the half

Kelman working very hard and winning the ball back well but hasn’t had a sniff at goal yet

Sounds like Godden early doors for us last season, and we all know where that went

HT 0-1 nice steady first half, with a well worked goal from Carey, even if it was a deflection...

Kelman gets about a bit, could see him working alongside Godden.

HT: Southend United 0-1 Charlton Athletic

Utter DOMINATION from the Addicks, as the march towards the Premier League continues on a gloomy Essex afternoon

Good 45 minute workout, lots of non-stop movement on both sides to build stamina, lovely play for the goal, impressed with the newbies, same again from the boys who were here last season and the two ‘groups’ gelling well. Unexpected bonus of that ‘penalty’ to practice saving one.

Long ball to Kelman, who flicks the ball on with his head, that space would have been greatly occupied by Donley had we signed him a week earlier.

Whoops, hope I've not put my mouth in it...  :#
Re Donley - This is the first time I’ve ever been “in the know” He is signing next week. Club record transfer fee that will beat the £21.7m that we paid for Jeffers.

Wouldn't worry about Machine Gun Kelman. He will bag between 10-15 over 40 games.

Where's @Goddenole, maybe he can see Donley doing some runs and maybe give us an exclusive...

Oh not worried in the slightest but thought those not watching might want to know why his name hasn’t been mentioned much

I am watching Plymouth Vs. Barnsley and it's absolute cinema.

Poor lad Wiredu is having a bit of a stinker which is a shame to see, hope he can improve second half as he's had a bit of a disaster debut so far.

The back line looks solid, Ramsay, Jones and Bell definitely look the part, Docherty and Coventry busy, our better attacks have come through Carey and Apter, Campbell and Kelman not linking up at the moment.

Agreed - Hoping that JRC isn’t too badly injured, because we will struggle if Doherty has to start many games. I love his work ethic, but he can’t see a forward pass quick enough. It’s either a back to goal volleyed “hit and hope” or sideways pass, which will just put us under immediate pressure in the championship.

I just wanted an excuse to debut his new nickname. It's between that or Kelz/Kels

Sure I heard someone shouting JAMIE DONLEY at the subs warming up at half time…

Hate to say it, but even in a friendly it’s clear — Docherty will not be good enough for that role he plays in the Championship. He hasn’t done anything catastrophically wrong, but he lacks the pace and dynamism we need in that position. The sooner Knibbs gets fit and replaces him, the better imo

Meanwhile in league one, both of our play off victims are losing at half time.

Harvey Knibbs I'm thinking, Knibbisnator, Knibbatron, Knibbster, Knibbmeister

Can't make my mind up on that one
