Hi everyone, and welcome to the last pre-season match today...

Today we travel East to darkest Essex and Roots Hall for another away friendly, this time it's Southend United who are our hosts. so this is it everybody, the last chance to get things right and maybe see our intended first 11 Nathan would like to see start next Saturday when Watford visit The Valley and the serious stuff starts.
Relegated from League two in 2020/21 season, Southend United have spent the last four seasons in The National League, which currently also has a plethora of ex EFL teams in it, they should provide us with a stern test, and like us would love to finish with a win on the last friendly of the season, hopefully we will prove just too strong for them, and travel home with a positive result.

Todays match will no doubt be another 60/30 team selection, but it would be good to finish the match with our best 11 on the pitch, also could we maybe see a return of Godden or Berry to the line-up, we shall see...

Team ....

Its good that we're in the 2nd division cos if we were still in the third this weekend would had been our first game as both League 1 and 2 are playing. Unfortunately not great for Southend as they would love to be playing a league game this weekend instead of playing us in a friendly. Hope they do well this season but getting out of the conference/national league is very difficult.

Not sure what Southend have done this summer, but their fans will surely be hoping that they can improve on their Play-Off result from a year ago... Although York and Forest Green are amongst the sides no doubt hoping the same.

I can't stand vegans and Yorkshire people just piss me off generally so hopefully my Essex brothers can make it.

Cawley: Yet to see Matty Godden, Luke Berry or Reece Burke at Roots Hall. #cafc Only one to play in pre-season out of that trio is Burke (45 minutes at Dartford).

That's pretty close to full strength if you ask me. LCB and strikers the only ones that might change for next weekend. No Knibbs in the squad

    Cheers FA...👍
  • I thought we only had Lembikisa for the week? Hopefully it’s someone else as one of the two trialists.

Expected not to see Knibbs.. slightly concerning Burke seemingly injured and If I recall JRC went off at halftime vs Ipswich?

The midfield looks weak and so does the bench, mainly triallists and inexperienced youth teamers.

    Concerning that Costello isn't there.

So far out of two of the signings whose injury concerns were highlighted (Costello & Burke) both don't look like they'll be ready for the first game of the season atm.

Feels a bit harsh on Macca that he's lost his place to Bell seemingly, thought Macca would be a shoe in until his form dropped. I know it's only a friendly but that looks like our XI vs Watford for me

RC has confirmed it’s Bennett and Dexter again.

That’s the idea of Friendly/Training matches, get some minutes in the legs and take a look at the fringe players

NJ knows what he is doing, this is a kick around, not a meaningful match

No Leaburn worries me. JRC we knew would be touch and go after coming off.

    Bench feels a bit light.

Not wholly convinced by that frontline. Love TC and Kelman is obviously a great player but neither are big, strong, physical players or have the deceptive strength of Godden. Would have expected Leaburn (if fit) or Tanto to play one of those roles. Maybe one of them (most likely TC) gets replaced by Tanto next week but NJ didn’t want him starting two friendlies in a row
