    Here come the subs
    And I say
    It's alright
  • I can see a world where against weaker teams we play both Carey and Knibbs in midfield ahead of Coventry. Both have the workrate and engine to play deeper and have played as 8's at times. That's the sort of thing Jones expects from a 10 in his setup and expect most of the time we will play one of them as the 10 and have Doc/JRC behind them to do the running and provide another shield. But some games we could play both as a dual 8 where who attacks and one holds.

Still think ultimately Gas won't be here by the end of the window but a couple of goals is good for his confidence
Hopefully he was in the shop window today and someone will take him off our hands
He wasn't today as he was playing, but he might be back there on Monday.

Ahadme and Godden up front v Watford for me.
Somebody on X has posted that Godden has had an operation. No idea how true it is,
In the Kelman signing video you can hear him saying he tore something
Tore a calf muscle, a few people have been saying
  • I enjoyed that game. Of the newbies I thought Bell was very solid, Carey took his goal well, Apter put in a decent shift and Kaminski is an upgrade on what we already have. I don’t remember seeing too much of Kelman. Ahadme scored 2 nice goals from good crosses from Coventry and Apter. Maybe with better service he’ll score some goals? Was he out there just to be in the window or does NJ see something in there? Who knows but we shall see!
There was a big difference in the 2nd half after the wholesale changes. The team looked a lot weaker. Jones going off made a big difference. We do miss him when he’s not there.
Went in a ‘local’ pub afterwards. They were saying what a good signing we have in Kelman. Apparently he came through their academy. Anyway, we shall see. I think NJ is getting very close to seeing what his best starting 11 will be. Like I said, we did look significantly weaker the last 30 of the 2nd half.

Enjoyed today, never been to Roots Hall before, happy to of ticked it off the list, happy to never visit again!
I was so hoping Gassan would score his hatrick, would of been Charlton  folklore to witness such an achievement! He played well tbf, his touch was good,  and lay offs were to a Charlton shirt every time, done with pace and conviction. As others have said, against non league.
Fuller looks so good for a young fella.
I don't think we learnt much about who starts next Saturday, just another session for fitness and sharpness.
We played the opposition, and didn't really get out of 2nd or 3rd gear, will need to step up on all fronts for the season opener.
I do think it's a bit odd that we chose to play a non-league side for our final pre-season game before the real stuff begins. Usually you'd start with the non-league teams and then step up the difficulty in opposition so that your final preparation game is against a side of similar or a better level than you.

Think we did the preparation stuff last week with Ipswich, this was like a cool down before the league starts next Saturday...

perhaps Nathan wanted to help one of his former clubs out, while keeping our eye in.

  • I thought Bell was outstanding. Sure, he needs an aerially commanding centre back alongside him, (step forward, Lloydy!) but he never looked hurried, and his passing was a cut above...
  • Interesting bit of info from yesterday game that Bonne who is still in discussion with Southend over a new contract …. Was on nearly 2k a week last season …..

Apparently there was good reason for that..... NJ said he wanted the 'game finishers' and squad members to start against Ipswich - and assess how ready they were against good Championship opponents.

All 20 in the matchday squad need to be Championship standard.

...Yep, gotta agree Bell is an outstanding player...🙄

If Southend are prepared to offer him anywhere near that figure for a new contract he should snap it up. He won’t get a better offer elsewhere.
  • All these Bell lovers conveniently forgetting his poor challenge for their penalty.

Let's see him against decent opposition next week, if selected.

Get your point mate, but that was never a penalty, just a normal challenge, very soft, and bet your last dollar in a league game...zilch
He's done well in the games so far, but yeah let's see Saturday, sure he will be selected though...
  • Well said, Charlie. My sentiments exactly.
