Still think ultimately Gas won't be here by the end of the window but a couple of goals is good for his confidence
The main positive is it might encourage a club to come in for him.

Seems a nice enough bloke so I wish him well, but as our ambitions grow, so must our ruthlessness. I don't believe for a second he will cut the grade here.
  • I know that Gas takes plenty of stick on here, but if he can provide any productive contribution towards survival this season then good luck to him
The problem with Ahadme is that he has no pace. He can't play in a Jones team because of the lack of pace. Forwards are expected to close down defenders, in groups, and he can't , so although he looked ok against a National League side, he couldn't do it in League 1 , let alone the Championship.

Somebody on X has posted that Godden has had an operation. No idea how true it is,
Face transplant. Spitting image of Ahadme and played today. Scored twice!

I’m properly in agreement with this. It’s why I’m shocked he signed him?

Just seen Knibbs running up and down the touchline with someone barking orders at him.

Did this happen,or did you misplace your glasses.

    Yes it did.
He had a shot from the edge of the area that, unfortunately, went straight at the keeper.

    So he didn’t score a hat-trick.

For context on how fast a football clubs fortunes can change:

6 years ago Sunderland signed George Dobson, a few days ago they signed Granit Xhaka.

We could well be looking back in 3 years and looking back at old signings the same way. Being sentimental in football won't get you very far most of the time.

That’s worrying about Jones. Anyone watching did it look serious?
Hopefully not. The physio gave the bench a thumbs up, which Tel suggested was a good sign.

That is the signal for "He's still alive!"

Ahadme constantly linked up play and the ball prior to distribution- not sure we have other strikers of that type? He also scored 2!
I thought Ahadme was excellent today.
Based on today’s performance he should be part of the main squad.

I also think his game offers more than Miles Leaburn.

    Miles is incredibly injury prone.
He struggles to string a run of games together before he is injured.

    Which is frustrating for everyone.

So for me Ahadme should be in the squad, over Miles.

Thanks for posting, Mrs Ahadme. You write very good English for a Moroccan.

Hopefully he was in the shop window today and someone will take him off our hands
I reckon Southend asked for him to play today after his wonder strike last season.
After today get ready for Southend to put a bid in....please.

He shot with his left, if it was on his right he would have got a better strike on it and scored his third. Do keep up with play next time

Also though Gas was very good today, looked the sharpest player on the pitch when he came on.

Listen, if  ahadme has improved massively enormously, et cetera then that’s all good for us
Non league team in a friendly
How many did Kelman score against them then?
Probably best to see who has more goals for us at the end of the season.
But that's the thing, if Kelman scores 2 in 3 mins we all wank ourselves into a coma, Ahadme does it and it's all "yeah but we're playing non league" "found his level" blah blah blah
Thank goodness he didn't as I was in my Mums care home at the time  :#
TBF a care home sounds like a pretty good place to fall into a coma!

Another decent workout and hopefully Lloyd Jones is, indeed, unscathed. Ditto Leaburn and Rankin-Costello. With Godden, Burke and Berry out, we can do without any further additions to the injury list.

Some clever movement and combination play from Sonny Carey (particularly with Apter) and you can see why he scores goals. Pleased on a human level for Gassan and, apart from his goals, his link up play was good. Hopefully today will put him in the shop window for potential suitors. A nice cameo from Fullah, who sprinkled a little bit of magic dust here and there. Hopefully he'll get at least some minutes from the bench against Stevenage, on Tuesday week.

Of course Ahadme scored against lower opposition haha.  Seriously though, I liked his confidence out there. Do think 50/50 mind that he will still be here when the window closes. Liked our link up play as a whole today as well. Hopefully, our physio's know what they are about with these injuries.

Even if there’s doubts about Ahadme ability it’s always nice to have an extra option especially with Leaburn and Godden out today. Can’t get him off the books so might as well try get the best out of him, even if it just means he allows Kanu or Mbick to go on loan that’s still a big boost to give some youngsters some proper football

Let’s not get carried away, Gas has played well and scored against a team that has been languishing in the National League for the past four seasons.

I am pleased for him but I doubt he’ll cut it in the Championship
To be fair, it's not as is we hammered Southend 9-0, and he picked up 2 late goals against demoralised opponents.

Yes it's weak opposition (weaker than I would have liked for a final game) but comparing Ahadme with our other attacking players, he did well.

I've always been of the opinion that while he might not be good enough (especially for the money we paid), Ahadme is a better player than what we've seen. And the way he was completely frozen out at the end of last season was odd.

Enjoyed today, never been to Roots Hall before, happy to of ticked it off the list, happy to never visit again!
I was so hoping Gassan would score his hatrick, would of been Charlton  folklore to witness such an achievement! He played well tbf, his touch was good,  and lay offs were to a Charlton shirt every time, done with pace and conviction. As others have said, against non league.
Fuller looks so good for a young fella.
I don't think we learnt much about who starts next Saturday, just another session for fitness and sharpness.
We played the opposition, and didn't really get out of 2nd or 3rd gear, will need to step up on all fronts for the season opener.
