Deadline Day from Pg.641 - Summer 2025 Charlton Athletic Transfer Rumours

If you look at players like Aneke as well from 2017-2021 he played 138 games averaging 35 a season not perfect but still played a decent amount of football. Last 3 years he’s played 66 averaging 22. Not saying Knibbs is anywhere near remotely injury prone to Aneke but it’s not like players can be fit at one time then suddenly break down at another. Knibbs at 1.8M would have been a steal and is a fantastic player but if it is medical related and he was to suddenly break down we would have all lost our minds and complained we didn’t do well enough to keep our players fit0

All of the signings we’ve paid money for this window have got 3 to 4 year contracts so don’t see that being an issue personally. The Red Robin said:
Some saying he wanted a longer contract than we were offering too. Who knows.Swisdom said:Lots of talk of a failed medical and I’ve seen Reading fans on Twitter saying he was wearing tape on his knee continuously from December for the remainder of the season. Possibly because he was so important to them.
Not impossible to think he’s damaged his knee by doing that and something has shown up on the medical and given us second thoughts.Just putting 2+2 together but they would explain why it suddenly went pear shaped and might also explain their manager comments about wanting to support him.0 -

Not many starts for Aneke in that time . I assume Knibbs’ ton in the last 2 years are all startsCrispywood said:If you look at players like Aneke as well from 2017-2021 he played 138 games averaging 35 a season not perfect but still played a decent amount of football. Could be regarding Knibbs knee. Reading fans have stated he had/has a knee issue, if that was the case and he needs an operation, you aren’t going to sign someone that could potentially have months out when it’s already going to be a hard job just to stay in the division. Jones’s will need the more marquee signings where money has been spent to play most weeks to give us a chance.3

Went downhill, bit steep, we've had a great window and it ain't finished yet, Fukuda could still be on, but waiting on his contract to end, shame about Knibbs, but come on now, we're doing a whole lot better than a lot of us expected, me included...AndyG said:This window went downhill when we didn’t get the Japanese fella lol

I'm not certain whether I should be amazed, or concerned, or possibly both.1 -
I don’t think it was to do with money or contract offered. Rich pretty much confirmed that in a response yesterday, must be something to do with his medical and potentially as others have said, another option becoming available. I don’t think we will ever really know but we move on.1
 -
If Knibbs does not arrive then it is less money spent and would increase opportunities for players we already have.
A scenario that is easy to deal with.
I like Jones’ reluctance to get in loan players, but money not spent might allow one exception to get in a decent loan player.
If a loanee is a dud you’re not hamstrung by a long contract.
Anyway no Knibbs might mean more Fullah.2 -
Am a bit gutted as I really rate Knibbs, but it very much sounds like our decision which is positive.4

We have to assume that given we seem to have been chasing this for a while that if it was indeed us who called it off that would not have been done lightly or on a whim - there must be a pretty compelling reason to complete such a total and sudden U-turn.Pelling1993 said:Am a bit gutted as I really rate Knibbs, but it very much sounds like our decision which is positive.
Hopefully we have a back up plan but I for one have faith based on other summer activity so far.1 -

No point comparing him to Aneke, they fulfil completely different jobs. Knibbs in his position would be required to run more than Aneke was expected as he was effectively a semi mobile target for long balls to be brought down at0

No wonder you are called the Medway Machiavelli.
Though some on here think Machiavelli was a winger for Genoa.2 -

Shame we don't get the fully fit Knibbs, but if there's something wrong with his medical then that's all it is, a slight shame.1

Is there life after Harvey bloody Knibbs...
I'm as gutted as the next person that he was shown the door, but he's gone, don't suppose we will ever know the reason, but move on please.6 -

            Knibbs has gone people.
Who are we signing instead of him then???
So far we have rumours (from fans) for Donley & JRS (unlikely). Is that it?
To be honest neither of them play like Knibbs so i wonder if we will look for a similar player to Knibbs. Someone more physical who can be a nuisance, can score goals and press from the front?0 -
Whatever we do next, I expect it to be in keeping with most of the transfers so far this window - that is exciting players who improve us. I am not expecting any more nor less. Let’s see who the dream team next land…?2

Absolutely. I think this decision was made completely on medical advice. Pity all round really.thenewbie said:

It would be nice to get a midfielder with a bit of height that can impose themselves. Our midfielders aren't very physical and I think we will struggle a bit there against certain sides.Bolderhumphreyreid said:Knibbs has gone people.

We won't be retaining much posession so a powerhouse type who can keep the ball would certainly add to our game and help keep the pressure off us.0 -

Shooters it sounded like you had wind that this deal wasn't happening beforehand when others said it was just the announcement being delayed. Was that based on info on the medical side or that other clubs were competing? Or just an educated guess based on general pessimism/experience...

Remember Jones is big on players being the right character for this football club. Perhaps Knibbs didn't fall into the no dickheads category, onto the next!1
