Remember Jones is big on players being the right character for this football club. Perhaps Knibbs didn't fall into the no dickheads category, onto the next!
Can’t see that being a reason given it was very close to being done.

Sick of the sound of his name to be honest, if we pulled the plug on the deal because we saw something we didn’t like that pleases me because the new setup is working

In the past we would have signed a crock and had him sitting in the treatment room

So if you’re reading this Knibbs, do one, we are moving on

Blimey. All very strange! To get as far as a medical and then pull our suggests he's failed it. Odd to make a decision on his 'fit' for the club that late and having got that far

Sounds to me like a medical issue or attitude issue I can’t see what else it can be. Shame though, really hope we get linked with someone else soon or buy someone soon, the fans were on such a high but seems a bit a lull now.

This window went downhill when we didn’t get the Japanese fella lol
Went downhill, bit steep, we've had a great window and it ain't finished yet, Fukuda could still be on, but waiting on his contract to end, shame about Knibbs, but come on now, we're doing a whole lot better than a lot of us expected, me included...
FFS, it was a joke, the geezer even put “lol” at the end
Oh lord it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way...

...ain't you ever made a faux pas ??
I have not heard anyone outside of my immediate family remember the words of TR Dallas' hit...

I'm not certain whether I should be amazed, or concerned, or possibly both.
I can't wait to look in the mirror
'cos I get's better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man,
Oh lord it'd hard to be humble
But i'm doing the best that I can...🙄
Others may disagree, but that is genius/madman (delete as appropriate) level knowledge.

I won't praise you too much because I don't want some folks to say that you are egotistical or anything.

Yeah that reads like a failed medical to me as opposed to personal terms.

Nothing to do with "team fit". That's obvious. Jones wouldn't have identified him, spoken to him, brought him to Sparrows Lane, a deal was agreed between clubs.

All evidence points in one direction. Let's see what happens but it sounds dead in the water.

The other thing to keep in mind if it is a medical is that it will involve scans that a player wouldn't normally have, not all injuries/conditions stop players playing immediately but they might forsee an issue down the line. I highly doubt we'll ever know but it's not as simple as him having been available a lot

The medical isn't a formality. We have proper, experienced medical professionals on staff. I trust the process

‘No dickheads’ was a Michael Appleton era policy.

As far as I’m aware Jones’ policy on dickheads hasn’t been made public.

My guess is that he would say that he would welcome the right type of dickheads that buy in to what we’re trying to achieve… just in terms of certain things.

While he hasn’t used that expression. He has constantly talked about the person being as important as the player. The standard he demands means we’ll never see a player who isn’t giving 100% for the club.

I think the whole point of 'dickhead' in this context is that they wouldn't do that

    His Knibbs has gone ?
    Was he ever here ?

Stop all the clocks, cut off the mobile phone
Prevent the dog barking with a juicy bone
Silence this idol chatter with a muffled drum
Knibbs to Charlton was the deal that wasn't done.

Am a bit gutted as I really rate Knibbs, but it very much sounds like our decision which is positive.
We have to assume that given we seem to have been chasing this for a while that if it was indeed us who called it off that would not have been done lightly or on a whim - there must be a pretty compelling reason to complete such a total and sudden U-turn.

Hopefully we have a back up plan but I for one have faith based on other summer activity so far.
Absolutely. I think this decision was made completely on medical advice. Pity all round really.

Shooters it sounded like you had wind that this deal wasn't happening beforehand when others said it was just the announcement being delayed. Was that based on info on the medical side or that other clubs were competing? Or just an educated guess based on general pessimism/experience...
I had heard that when people were saying it was 100% done and he was our player just waiting on an announcement that he actually wasn’t and not even that close. That followed hearing he was a top target all summer.  I heard that the club had sought expert medical advice over fitness concerns and I’m guessing here that when that expert opinion was received that the club pulled out of the deal. Am I 100% certain ? Nope. As always lots of us hear varying bits and pieces sometimes second hand but this fits in this case I think.

Exactly this. A medical isn't looking at how many games you played last season.

They can uncover degenerative issues that they forecast will get worse over time.

The Reading side seem certain he has a knee issue

Chris Solly / Ledley King  - Knee issues can limit game time massively.

He may get through 40 games next season. But he will sign a 3/4 year deal.

What if by next season he needs surgery, 6 months out, then doesn't come back the same player like we saw with JFC.

I was being slightly tongue in cheek. Trying to illustrate that a) ‘no dickheads’ is basically a meaningless platitude, and b) Jones talks a bit like that.

Interesting on the second division podcast we’re voted as being one of the big over achievers. And think we’ll be fine and have done very good business let’s hope it carries on.

It could have flagged up something medical which meant we looked to weight the contract more to appearances which he wouldn't agree to

Maybe someone better or more suited to us became available.

I think that would reflect quite badly on us but I suppose it’s a tough business so who knows.

  • HARVEY KNIBBS AGENT…I reckon this transfer back and forth is all down to Harvey’s agent, just look at him he looks alright wheeler dealer ! I bet he’s just greedy and asking for  more money because he’s seen how much money we’ve been spending so far compared to other clubs in the transfer market.

He was the ideal player for that position - something else going on is my anything but in the know guess

We have had years of useless managers and owner - not anymore. Whatever the reason this deal broke down, I trust the club and the manager.

All the noise from some of our fans is very odd - would they rather we spend £1.8m on a player who may have potential injury problems or some other problem? Let's support the club and stop the whinging. We don't need to know why the deal is off.

No doubt they will have other targets in mind.
Does this relate to social media, because I can’t see much whinging on here? Just disappointment.

Could we not offer him one from the club shop?

It was Dean Holden who came up with it actually. Very odd thing for him to say tbh.
