Because I don't follow football closely outside of Charlton, I can't say he's one that's crossed my radar until he got linked in the last week(ish). On paper, his experience certainly seems a step up in class compared to other goalkeeper signings we have made in the last 10 years. On that basis, it's an encouraging signing- not least because it hints again that we are taking staying up seriously and willing to spend realistic amounts to get decent Championship standard players. Slight question mark over him being heavily involved in 2 successive relegations so maybe a bit of confidence to rebuild (Jones should be good with that). As always, all that matters is what he does here.

Welcome Thomas, I look forward to seeing what you can do in a Charlton shirt.

We need at least 6 proven championship quality signings throughout the team. This is the first.  Good start.  Mannion as backup and we wish AMB well on whatever is next for him.

Sonny Carey with 48-Championship appearances to his name...

This is a quality signing. Have seen a bit of him for Luton but he was POTY for Blackburn, played more games than any other player that season (43) and in 32 of those he let in one or less goals.

I don't know how much I'd worry about the successive relegations, I think that's very much a symptom of the overall team more than the keeper. He's obviously been exposed much like Carson, Phillips and often Kiely were for us. That goes to show that a good keeper won't keep you in the league but with a good defence in front of him this time it will certainly help. It's also interesting that he got 11 clean sheets last season, which put him 12th overall in the league despite Luton finishing 22nd. It all gives the impression that he wasn't the problem last season, and given Luton were the second lowest goalscorers in the league last season by 1 goal that seems to tally up. Good players get relegated all the time and he looks like given he didn't look out of place in the Premier League he seems like a really good signing

Forget the amazing signing that new GK kit is banging!
Really nice, I can see it being quite popular with the Addick fashionistas.

Interesting take from a Luton fan on their message board...

Anyone who leaves Luton for a pisspot champ clubPosted by Fake Jindlay on 1/7/2025, 15:13:28like Derby or Charlton, is basically saying “I am better than this league one shitshow”.Well the facts indicate otherwise. Off you fuck.
They really are a bitter lot...🤦‍♂️

They’ve crashed and burned very quickly much like we did really.  Bitter pill to swallow.

Shame he let in 96 in the other 11

Clean sheet means a point at least.
Given we are very unlikely to be able to bring in players either in midfield or up front who are exceptionally effective, our ability to keep clean sheets with an exceptional defence will be the thing that keeps us up.

Indeed! I think some clubs just have this anger in their fanbase...AFC Wimbledon are another lot. Why are you so pissed off all the time?!
  • I'm expecting a lot more shots on target next season so a keeper who is good at keeping them out seems an excellent choice

I agree with this. If Thomas is no good at crosses then it is down to defenders to head them away, but in this division you concede a banger every five games or so, I think he will make that every eight games or so.
With luck we could win about 14 games 1-0.

... shows that Nathan appreciates that the keeper is THE most important position in the team
Not necessarily. Wait until we unveil our new 1.8 million pound RB/RWB/MF from Orient.

A Luton fan saying we're p***pot!  He needs to look at their history.

Really happy with this signing. Luton fans seem livid we only supposedly paid 1 mil for him.
I don't see why. He was supposedly going to Turkey for free.

I think our history, and that of Derby County, can hardly be called p***pot. I would suggest this particular Luton fan spends some time during his school playtime looking into the backgrounds of the Rams and the Addicks - assuming he can read of course.
