So in short, he says he's been messed around, there's no deal in place, and he was looking for some kind of deposit that he'd then use to pay outstanding salaries. Still a total mess.
On the plus side for their fans, he seems to be showing a willingness to sell and he has a price in mind.
That is the nature of football, had we got promoted under Duchatelet when he first joined, the Valley would have been at capacity every week.
I still remember reading when he goes people will be back and it just never happened. The only way we will get the Valley full again consistently is if we are a prem team or if it's a big occasion we see people turn up.
I don't like the bloke, but I don't entirely blame him for our dwindling attendances.
Most league games I could count how many people were sitting in the Curbs Stand.
Our attendances were pitiful when he was owner and destroying the club.
Our attendances did not plummet shortly after we were relegated from The Prem.
Yes if Duchatelet achieved promotion to the Premier League we would have been packed out.
But he ran the club in a farcial, amateur manner which made us a laughing stock.
He got us relegated not promoted and yes the damage he caused effected the fan base so severely we are only just recovering.
Prem 06/07: 26k
Champ 07/08: 23k
Champ 08/09: 20k
League one 09/10: 17k
The following year 15k, then back up to 17k in a promotion season, followed by 18k first season back in the Champ.
Roland's first year in charge of us properly we had 16k. These figures aren't as bad as the Legaue one years that followed, but the data doesn't lie. Our attendances very shortly after relegation dropped off a cliff once we lost prem football. 9k less season ticket holders within 3 seasons.
We did go down under his ownership, but we also went up with it. I don't like the bloke but he can't be blamed for our attendances. Sold out the Valley and Wembley with him owning the club. Which shows people were willing to show up even if they hated him, as long as Charlton were involved in high profile games/playing well

Agreed. It's the lack of success on the pitch which kills attendances. Mid table L1 football won't attract the masses, whoever owns the club.
Of course Roland has to take much of the blame for the decline on the pitch, but the crowds and atmosphere then picked up under Bowyer when on the field, the club was run much better with football people like Bowyer and Gallen in charge, and Roland letting then get on with it.6 -

My definition would be the next couple of years, when as you say we averaged 23K and 20K.
If shortly after is when we were subsequently relegated to L1 then I’d agree with you.1 -
Season ticket sales fell approximately 40% under Duchatelet from approximately 10,000 to 6,000.

Just a shame they were left with a poundland budget even in The Championship and barely any infrastructure at the club.6 -

People boycotted the RD years and then didn't come back after he left because they had found other things to do. Kids of those boycotting will not now grow up as Charlton fans.
I would say the data that doesn't lie is the season ticket data which Covered End shoes a 40% drop off.6 - Sponsored links:

Unless it's someone the Football League considers "tin pot" in which case they'll batter the poor buggers so that they're as good as relegated before the season's even started.0 -

Non playing staff have been told that Junes salary payment is uncertain. I’m guessing that means very unlikely. HMRC are owed so unless Chansiri changes his tactics they are bang in trouble. Seems he wants £5 million up front to start negotiations for any sale. They don’t even have any pre season games arranged yet apparently.0

Tough to see how they don’t struggle this season. I hate to see any club in bad situations but that rat Bannan suffers then great0

With the season just six weeks away hasn’t Chansiri got to prove given the current circumstances that he can fund the season ? Would EFL risk paying Wednesday the first Sky payment if there’s no guarantee he can fund the season ?0

Readings previous owner took down payments , before he would enter into negotiations. I believe he actualy did this with two prospective buyers, then he stymied the talks.
It was only his conviction for financial irregularities back home that gave the EFL the chance to step in and apply some real pressure.
The payment of money to negotiate seems to be accepted practice if not common.0 -
