POST-MATCH THREAD: Wycombe Wanderers v Charlton Athletic: Easter Mon 21st April 2025

What an afternoon! No summary from me, it’s too much!

  • Lloyd Jones was absolutely immense. AN early booking set the tone (3 mins), but he had Richard Kone in his pocket all match. He got his head and his foot to everything that came his way. And what a sweet finish, on the half volley, to score the opener (11 mins).
  • Luke Berry’s rocket was sublime to put the Addicks up 2-0 (24 mins). Brilliant!
  • Matty Godden again, again, again to go 3-0 after the break (58 mins). Closed down the keeper and forced him into a slip, then finished off with aplomb!
  • Karoy Anderson just four minutes later with a wonderful goal to cap it all off!
  • Macauley Gillesphey was immense on his return, as were Docherty, Ramsay and Edwards.
  • Will Mannion did his job well and pulled off a great diving save in the later stages. Another clean sheet!
  • Absolutely stupid booking for Chuks to get sent off in added time.

But the support was something else! Watching on the stream the travelling Addicks could be heard non-stop from before kick-off till beyond the final whistle. Amazing, well done. Wycombe must feel shell shocked.

Wycombe 0 Charlton 4
Over to you.

What a result. To a man they were superb.

Unfortunate with Wrexham winning but beat them next week and who knows. Either way I fear nobody in the play offs. We are the form team and have been for the second half of the season.

Ironically despite the score line we didn’t look at our flowing best going forward.

It was the defence that won it I feel.

As impressive a performance from front to back as you could ask for.

Never let Wycombe have a sniff, pressing them all over the pitch and at the right times.
Thought they might get back in it when Berry went off but Anderson filled in admirably.

We would have always had to beat Wrexham to have a chance at 2nd. If we do, they will have to win their last game away at Lincoln to be sure of promotion.

    Quite unbelievable.

How poor were Wycombe and how good were we?

I have a feeling it might not be the last time we play them this season.

Some superb goals . Anderson was immense when he came on but i do hope berry is ok because with Chuks out for three games we are very light up front.

Beat Wrexham next week and who knows? Still will need them not to win at Lincoln on the last game of the season and us to beat Burton. We can still do it.

Forget Autos for one minute.... Just want to know that Godden and Berry are okay for the Playoffs.
Gutting about Wrexham but at least we have momentum, we shouldn't fear anyone in the play offs.

I'll happily take two scrappy one nil wins.

Safe to say, Wycombe will not fancy it if they have to play us. 😄😄😄😄

Absolutely brilliant performance, loosing Chucks for probably 3 games might just cost us with all the other forward injuries.

Really? I though whilst the game was still a competitive contest we actually looked back to what we know this team is capable of after a couple of slightly off performances (where we still managed to pick up points). Obviously after the third and fourth went in in quick succession the match effectively ended.

Great result. Defence did so well to limit Wycombes chances. Shame Wrexham and Chuks had to spoil the afternoon.

Re Chuks, from watching the stream, it looked like the Wycombe fella tried to plant the knee maui tai style and Chuks ended up throwing him to the ground. Wonder what others think.

I really can't remember being quite so nervous before a game and I still felt that way even when we went two up. Thankfully, the team have a lot more confidence and bottle than me! I'm still shaking, but now it's with jubilation.

A superb win. All we can do is keep winning, and then hope that the footballing gods shit upon Wrexham and Wycombe in their remaining fixtures.

Great performance. We made a top 2 team (before the game) look like a middle of the table one. A shame other results didn't go our way but that was a real marker for the playoffs.

Berry really shows his quality in the goals he has scored this year. I think pretty much each finish (maybe except the Orient goal) has demonstrated excellent technique - given the number of assists too hopefully his injury is only minor.

Hats off to the team both on and off the field. The sort of performance that will worry other teams. A fantastic watch and all I could hear were the Charlton fans singing. On that performance no idea how Wycombe are in 3rd.

Certainly won’t have done the confidence any harm and that’s important going into the playoffs. Such a pity we had such a poor start to the season because if we hadn’t we’d be giving Birmingham a run for their money. Top two gone for me so let’s get something out of Wrexham and finish off with a good win on the last day. Hit the playoffs on a high. None of the other three will want to meet us. None.

A very big win, the rest of the clubs fighting for promotion will look at that and not want a bar of us in the playoffs. Huge statement.
