DubaiCAFC said:Honestly, don't know what some of you want.. It is the most stable the club has been years. We are in touching distance of the play offs, Jones is in control of what he wants. Since the day he came in, he said he wants smaller, fighter and hungry squad.
Yes we need to add one or two.. As long as they can make an impact. But the constant negativity to ownership is all a little boring now!!
We have rejected a bid close to 2 million for TC. Clubs are asking about Leaburn and knocking them back..
Do you think the ownership was responsible for Campball, Hyton and Potts signings? Suppose that was Scott's doing right.
Get real!!9 -
Weird thing is there now feels like a strategy, which could just be down to the positivity of recent results. Any player we bring in has to improve the first 11, we will all be disappointed if we manage only one in, but better that than wasting money just to bring somebody else in to make up the numbers.4

This is worse than a new ownership thread
never has so much been written about so little
We’re outdoing our duller than dull windows of the past , probably another 20 near targets were just missed/couldn’t get hem over the line but at least we’re only losing £8.45m a year , living the dream .
6 times relegated in to league one and it’s never taken more than 3 seasons to get out , enjoy these history making times , season five and counting10 -

It's been better this year. Agreed. How did last year go for you and your inside knowledge as we finished in our lowest position for 97 years DESPITE you telling us so many positive things repeatedly ?
Stable great
Another season in League 1? No thanks.
I don't want that
CM doesn't want that
99% of Charlton fans don't want that!
It was never going to happen over night. The ownership was never going to put billions in to the club, and they was up front about that at the start.
As I mentioned, god knows how many times, I have never spoke to SMT, my info comes from a number of other places...
We have put up years of shit ownership, and this lot are doing a lot right on and off the pitch.. Yet it isn't good enough.. Might be easier that you start supporting a Chelsea, Man City or Wrexham..
Much rather our club get there on merit, than buying our way!!
I said that SINCE the SMT came in you have been very supportive Didn't say it was direct from them.
But I dont get the "much rather our club get there on merit" what do you mean?
We've been pretty shit in League 1 for 5 years + now
Why do we deserve any more merit than Birmingham? Wrexham ? Wycombe?
I don't understand ?!
We are always going to have a bigger budget, due to the size of the club..
Yes I am positive of the ownership group - as they have a plan, direction, engaging with the supports, put founding blocks for longer term success.. They are heads and shoulders above the previous few owners!
We are still underachieving and last year the SMT took us to our lowest position in nearly a century!
Do you not see the problem here?
Whoopdedoo
I am still confused
What do you want for Charlton?
We stabilise as a League 1 team losing £8m or so a year whilst the fanbase dwindles and we lose our ground eventually?
Great business plan the SMT sold the owners then!
I don't get it?
If we don't get out of this division this club WILL die. It's not easy. Hell no. But you are steadfast in supporting an ownership group that despite being owned by 2 1/2 billionaires and the 4th (ish) largest budget in the division have, until, very recently, looked a bunch of amateurs, not fit for purpose.
Don't get all the negative towards the ownership.. Have the come out and said we going to throw every penny at this, to get up. No! But what they have said, we are building the club to be successful in the future.. What is wrong with that??
We have got a good chance of going up this season now, and I think we will bring a couple in today, maybe even 3 players, but let's make sure these players make a difference.
So $Billionaires hate losing. They'll give up or remove the SMT. A side like Charlton, with its resources, fans AND the league's top goalscorer should NEVER finish 16th.
Sorry. I can't go with the building blocks etc thing. There is nothing this SMT have shown me (Rodwell, Scott, Methven) that makes me think they can, if we god please, get promoted - become capable of running a successful Championship club.5 -
Dubai regularly posts accurate information on here and is more informed than 99% of us on here too. Think the group of posters that keep going after him should give it a rest personally.Definitely the best ownership group we’ve had in the last 10 years and I think they’ve stuck to their word on how the club would be run.Something very basic and surely important to us based on the crooks we’ve had in the club recently??65

Expect the Gilbert signing to be announced soon - a loan but with a fee35

The SMT are far from perfect but some of the vitriol seems a bit over the top honestly. Last season went very badly there's no question there but right from the outset they specifically said that there was a lot of work to be done and it would take time. This season has been better than the last, Appleton was an awful appointment but they course corrected and Jones got through a bad patch and we're beginning to see signs of an actual plan.
The jury is very much out and on a personal level I don't particularly like or rate many of the SMT. It could be worse, it could be better but for me the jury is still very much out at the moment.5 -

All managers buy chuff as well as decent players. The best ones buy far more of the latter, surely we all agree that there have recent mistakes but there is the start of a very decent side here with players should handle the step up if we ever do it.1

Remember quality, not quantity… at the minute we have neither!3

To say this is the best ownership in 10 years is an incredibly low bar and should not discount the current ownership from scrutiny.15 -

And like many on here it's not the owners I have doubts about, it is the SMT.
And if Jones controls/has final say on transfers (which I can believe) that what do Scott AND Rodwell both do?
Anyway, this is a transfer thread, lets stick to that topic for one day at least.

These current owners and SMT are never going to provide Jones with a transfer war chest because they are watching the penny’sWe will probably end up getting a loan in today to appease the fans who won’t, contrary to what Jones said at the weekend “add quality to our squad”5 - Sponsored links:

If we get Gilbert in then for me I don’t think it’s a terrible window as long as we keep hold of our players. If the board were watching our spending, Lloyd Jones would 100% be gone!!6 -

As you know the club has been sh*t on the last few years due so it’s going to take time for things to settle down and get right. This is a marathon, not a sprint and I think the ownership is slowly getting that right. We all know getting out of the league is a priority and Charlie even mentioned Charlton won’t achieve anything unless we get out of the league but it’s going to take time. I’m happy with the current progress so far, we’re spending money, have a half decent manager and performances have improved massively for me. I do see a step in the right direction at the moment. We need to be more patient with Charlton.5 -
Is there not another thread for this kind of stuff?
There's plenty on the spiralling life span of Charlton Athletic. Can some of you not take your frustrations out over there?8 -

Nottingham forest in the summer window of 2022 brought in 21 players + 2 loans = 23
Charlton Athletic in the winter window of 2025 have up to the last day brought in 0 players= 0
The common denominator: Andy Scott.
Scott was given a remit at Forest and Charlton. One side wanted a whole new squad in the summer for the Premier season while Cafc wanted to off load a few player to have a lighter squad in numbers for the final 4 or maybe 5 months of the season.
If Small, Leaburn, and TC are still here come 11 pm it's a positive if the attacking midfielder with stamina, passing ability and goals and assists in his CV doesn't turn up even on a loan then it's a negative.

Mendonca In Asdas said:Remember quality, not quantity… at the minute we have neither! All we can ask for is gradual progress, and it seems like we have that now. A couple of really good signings today and I’ll really be looking forward to the rest of the season. And for those people who keep saying that it was ridiculous to bring Leaburn on in the final minute, I’d say it was a really good decision, because we had a free kick that was clearly gonna be pumped into the penalty area, and we lacked height. What does Leaburn have? Height.4

Jesper Blomqvist and Robbie Mustoe are in the cafe in Avery Hill Road … They’re both on standby 🙄2

Amazed that there haven't been any rumours about someone coming in for Leaburn. He's got to be worth a gamble for a PL club to take.
Desperately hoping we are not going to do a Danny Murphy/Andy Reid/Mason Burstow later tonight and accept a bid for him minutes before the deadline.3
