January Transfer Window (rumours + actuals)

But a couple of injuries and we are already down to a bench with the likes of Watson, Ahadme, or kids on it. We are short in numbers imo and need 3 in (we won't get them).
It's daft to get this close and then have to rely on an injury and tiredness free 14 players to get over the line.
I suspect we get one panicked signing tomorrow and Hylton back once the window closes.11 -

Not bringing anybody in would be criminal because with our injury record we need quality cover.
This is the worse league to get out of jyst ask Leeds fans what they thought of it.
Its interesting though that both us and Leeds have billionaire connections with the San Francisco 49's on their side but my Leeds mate is doing his nut in as they are top and need bodies to get them over the line and the only player they are looking at is a Southampton forward who's hardly played this season.
It seems both Leeds and our owners are all mouth and no wallets... Wasting a gilt edge opportunity to get to the championship now is crazy, screw this 'its a project bollox' take the bloody opportunity now.
Frustrating is not the word.1 -

Especially with Jones signing a new contract and positive noises from Small regarding the same. It’s so nice not to be hoping we bring in an entire new team to replace the dross we’ve got each window.
Holding on to our better players is a positive but as a club we need to be challenging for the play-offs at least.
After many seasons we are finally looking like we have a chance of top six but SO FAR we've not added to our squad.
I want more than "decent" or treading water in this division.
Maybe I'm unrealistic but I really think the play-offs can be achieved this year and extra quality signings give us a better chance of doing that. But this club has been so devoid of continuity over the past ten years that it’s nice to be in a position where (one striker excepted) I’m happy for all our players to be here.
The point I’m making is that it’s not the end of the world if we don’t sign anyone compared to previous years where I would have been fearing relegation had we not brought anyone in.
Not getting promoted could well mean our better players leaving for richer, high ranked clubs and so we have to start over.
Anyway, window hasn't closed yet
Re the above.........we will have a better chance of Small signing a new contract if we are in the Championship next season2 -
Maybe I am alone in feeling relaxed about the notion of no incomings.
Yeah it is exciting to read about a new player, but more often than not they disappoint.
We are in a position to challenge, probably no worse off than our rivals when it comes to fielding a team, from Tuesday we can simply get on with it.5 -
At least you can all gaze lovingly with community pride at the new sign behind The Covered End...2

Anyone have a list of the out of contract players we might be trawling through in a week’s time?1

We have recruited no one, with just about 34 hours left.
What's the betting that come 23:00 tomorrow night, the same old excuses will be trotted out?
If that's the case, my new found optimism regarding making the playoffs will be sunk, as will my faith in the new owners!
We have an opportunity here, I hope the SMT don't blow it for the sake of penny pinching!1 -

Nothing like a little bit of light hearted banter to lighten the mood on here 🤦2

That seems a bit unfair. He was instrumental in putting a one line quote together for the Lloyd Jones contract signing article. These things take time.0 -

I thought Nathan wasn’t interested in loans…3

Looks like Swansea are loaning someone from City and maybe buying O’Brien from Forest so probably not in for Gilbert4

He said he'd much prefer to develop our own players and likes people to be around for a while so they buy into the project but would take loans if they added quality.10 - Sponsored links:

I know Cawley completely ruled him out but Moxon wasn't in the Pompey squad today.....We couldn’t get anyone in but are really happy with what we have in our squad.
C) The 16 year old we managed to bring in on loan from Spurs had a clutch of Clubs vying for his signature. But the player wanted to come to South East London. To a mid table League one Club.1 -

Could go either way. He does well, we could miss out in the summer if he gets a better offer. Goes badly and he was only on loan.4 -
I'm not knocking Gilbert's qualities - I have seen hardly anything of him, but as it stands he has played 7 times this season for Middlesborough in the league and in total 10 games he's appeared in, for a total of 340 minutes, in which he has one goal, no assists, ten touches in the opposition box, six successful lay offs, one successful dribble and one yellow card.
How long will it take him to get match fit. He has appeared in a total of 27 games in the league in his career. A lot to put on the young, inexperienced shoulders. League 1 is a brutal division. Not played in League 1 and it was 3 years ago, but 8 appearances in Swindon with no goals.

Could be a loan with an ‘option to buy’ at the end of the season.
i.e we loan him now but have agreed a price we would pay in the summer if we decide to make the deal permanent. Fairly common for agreements like this to be written into loan contracts.1 -
